I'm working on an article for an industry magazine and I'd like to get your opinion on the subject.
In regards to DVD releases how much time should a studio wait before releasing subsequent volumes of a series? For a hypothetical example, "Big Booty Slappers 1" comes out on January 1st , at least how much time should the studio give that title before coming out with volume 2? What reasons do you have to support your opinion? Does the time that a studio waits to release 'sequels' affect your buying habits?
Thanks!

I think anything less than a month is just well tacky. If you have to release two movies that month, then why not call them two TOTALLY different things like I Love Sex and so should you volume 437 and Happy Happy Go Time Sex Rocks Volume 1.
As far as buying habits go, I don't know that sequels hurt buying habits in porn as much as they do in mainstream but in porn our movies are not about the story but about who is in the movie and with each new sequel you get a whole new set of performers.
In the real world the movies are about the story and if the story sucks people won't be happy and won't be it anymore. But in porn ... well, obviously nobody cares about the story. :P
So ya, that's my 2 cents :P

As long as the quality can be kept up I think a release every other month would be great. Of course, keeping that quality might be hard without having to reuse certain girls alot.

Since we're on the topic of long intervals between sequels, when are you guys at Hush-Hush planning to release the sequel to Sorry Daddy, Whitezilla Split My Little Asshole?

I'd say a three maybe 4 month window. If its quality work, gives time for promo work to get them sales up. Too soon and i feel you eat into your own pockets. Just one outsiders view.

It's quality, not quantity that makes it a successful title. And it depends on the director. But every two months should be the average if the product is ok.
If sales figures decline for a series, then release the following 2,3 titles as quick as possible, fans will watch it too. The longer you wait then, the more people forget about it. After that, stop it.
And if the volumes exceed 25, then you should stop the series too. And release the scenes under a new title.
Whatever, every 2 or 3 months!

I think that sales figures are the best indicator of when it is time to release a sequel. In other words, you don't want to release the sequel if it will compete with the original for sales. When sales of the original fall below the target level then you release the sequel.
As to the time a studio waits to release a sequel effecting my buying habits, it doesn't really come into it.

If you've got a hot title, every two months. Back when he was relevant, Seymore Butts used to have 5 minutes of material tacked onto a release from the upcoming adventures, and then just a few short months later, a new release. No reason others couldn't do that. Why wait 6 months or more between volumes?

Good point. Volume 25 makes it sound tired, and also you'll start to forget what volumes you've seen.
