SCRIPT WRITING FOR THE ADULT INDUSTRY

Fans on the different forums are always submitting story ideas. How though can they be crafted into a working script that may interest a director? I thought the best person to ask is Jacky St James whose script for New Sensations Romance series Dear Abby was highly praised. She has also written the soon to be released Love is a Dangerous Game.

1 Can we really say that there’s a market for scripts out there just as there is for erotic fiction?
-Yes. Absolutely. If you look at the types of porn that are gaining more and more popularity and momentum—most of those are features (parodies, romances, etc.). But don’t be mistaken…just because there is a market for scripts, doesn’t mean it is an easy business to break into. The industry itself is very small and there are fewer opportunities than you might find in the mainstream world.

Despite the challenges "breaking in", if your aspiration is to write porn, then write porn. I always stand behind the fact that if you believe in what you’re doing and you aren’t getting the proper reception you feel you deserve…then create your own destiny. Don’t sit around waiting for things to happen. MAKE them happen. Produce your own stuff. Write your own stuff. Show the world something new!

it isnt hard to write a script. just write down your day and then throw some sex in there.
like your on the train to work and see a good looking woman, you whisper into her ear some words and you run to the nearest toilet and fuck. that didnt really happen you was just on the train with ugly women. etc

You don't need to be a genius to write a script for a porn movie

I think the hardest part about writing for porn is to get your foot in the door and actually get someone to buy what you write. But I don't think writing a good porn script is as easy as some may think. If you look at the worst stuff and simply aim to do better than those yeah, that's not tough. If you're aiming to do a really good script where the story is interesting enough to make people care about the story and yet have enough sex to make it good porn...that's a bit tougher.
Everybody thinks what they think is good/interesting/sexy to everyone else but that really not the case. Plus, lots of people usually just have ideas but can't really make them into real stories.

Question to silex (and not only).. when you say about adult script..
you are talking exclusively on dialogues and plot that concerns everything else but sex..
or you include sexual details too.
I believe there are essential differences between those two kind of scripts.

Very very nice put... indeed. Applause. So this is a chance for all these people who are crabbing about what porn lacks, including myself, to try to change something if they can... :)
hmmm...That's a very intriguing idea indeed...

Script writing for me means the inteo/lead in. It usually finishes with 'They have sex.' Jacky wrote though that in a recent script she described the style of sex she wanted.
The into developed with the use of 4 scenes/ vignettes. The Golden Age of porn was know for the quality of its stories. It became a low priority with most of the the adult industry. It was said anyone could do it and you could write the average script on the back of an envelope. Plot driven porn returned slowly with Girlfriends Films being amongst the first to say that a story line was important. They were following in the footsteps of directors such as Candida Royale. It's now seen as a key element to attracting the increasing female market. Not everyone agrees though on the need for a story.
The aim through quality script writing will be to eventually have porn accepted as mainstream films. This will happen but who knows when.
