What's really funny is to see a director's buddies come on ADT, hyping the hell out of the director's latest release, saying it's the best he's ever done, it will change porn forever....So a bunch of people rush out and get the film, then inevitably report back, it's nothing new, it's not even as good as the last film the director did, it has all the same guys, and most of the same women, all doing the same acts. So much for innovation.
Lee O., you mentioned that soccer in the UK is more appealing to families now because they cleaned up the stadiums, made them more family-friendly. Something similar has happened here with Nascar car racing, in which detergent companies now sponser race teams, because there are enough female Nascar fans to make it worthwhile.
Perhaps that's what's needed, detergent companies sponsering porn films - gives a new meaning to 'soap opera'.
Yeah, I can see it now... underwear and ballcaps emblazoned with company logos. What kind of products would appeal to the home viewers? Doc Johnson, KY, Astroglide and Zig Zag rolling papers should be big sponsors.
In the meantime, wake me up when the revolution starts.
Guy, it was late and night and I may have been unnecessarily aggressive in my post.
The only thing I want to say is that change within the industry always happens on its own from a few visionaries that test the boundaries of the established.
It will happen, whether we talk about it or not. Where there's a void, someone will swoop in and fill it.
Ultimately, however, porno is designed to make the individual guy jack off to it. If it doesn't accomplish this singular goal, it is worthless. I really don't think there'll be many that disagree with me on this point.
I always steer clear of judging anyone's work without ever watching it. The problem with directors, and I'm not absolutely innocent of this behavior, is that we tend to think we're the most important facet of this game. Same is generally true of alot of top male performers, alot of top female performers, etc, etc.
I will be able to get a few copies of your movies. I've already asked Mark Kulkis for a copy of INSEMINATED BY TWO BLACK MEN and I'm sure Tom Byron will have no problems getting me a couple of Evolution tapes. After all, we're both Extreme graduates like so many.
I am really not so sure whether interactivity is per definition a good thing for porn. If we venture into the realm of science fiction where we can control the action using brain waves, then maybe.. However, if it's basically a video game, wouldn't it distract from main purpose (wanking) when you need to operate buttons, keyboards, remotes etc.. ? I mean personally, I already hate using FF>> button too much.
Yeah, what we really need is immersion. Like Total Recall with fucking.
You know, serious robotics and VR folks always scoff at the idea of using technology to accomplish such low-brow goals, but you know it and I know it -- we eat, sleep, shit, fuck and die. The rest is hubris. Although growing a jawbone in your back is damn cool. But getting a virtual blowjob from <insert female of your daydreams> without fear of disease or repercussion? Gates would be a peasant by comparison.
Sorry, I don't see the next generation of robots doing dangerous work like search and rescue, delicate operations like surgery, or exploring the vacuum of space without need for oxygen -- I see Orgasmatron 2000s rolling off the assembly line, totally programmable, or try our bodysuit -- all pleasure, self-cleaning, and nothing's illegal when it's all in your mind. And nobody gets hurt.
Marriage and birth rates would fall through the floor. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing. Too many of the mean, stupid people are are breeding as it is.
But I may be in danger of derailing someone's precious thread. My money was on Capo -- lookit the fucker, what a badass. Chico -- I love you, too, bitch.
What the hell was the question? Nobody wants to hear from the geek, allright, allright...and yes, I've cracked a couple of beers. Ain't I appealing now, ladies? Good thing I'm already taken. I got nothing to prove and no one to impress.
Make the world a better place. Can't be too hard, can it? Porn's filming people fuckin'. It's a limited medium to begin with! Sorry, that's just mean. I'll go away now.
geez... i'm a little nervous replying here. especially with all these directors with a half-dozen or so titles under their belts. and i certainly don't want to risk being accused of being one of those shooters who are stuck in his ways. but the real problem with innovation in this business does not entirely lie with those who make this shit; whether they're new at it or old hands.
here's the problem (at least in terms of innovation): this business is, and always has been, distributor-driven.
no offense to the many fans who participate in this site, but for the most part, your opinions don't matter. the jizz biz is NOT a true, consumer-driven industry. it should be, but it's not.
perhaps when more buyers begin reading fan-based sites like this one--assuming innovation is something the fans truly want to see and they vocalize that desire in their commentaries--and the buyers/distributors come to believe innovation equals profits, then you'll see some innovative changes; and they'll be mandated by the distributors, whether we're talking pieces or cable sales.
do you guys really believe cookie-cutter formulas are so common because there's only a very, very few--new or old--who are capable of doing anything that's unique or different?
What's really funny is to see a director's buddies come on ADT, hyping the hell out of the director's latest release, saying it's the best he's ever done, it will change porn forever....So a bunch of people rush out and get the film, then inevitably report back, it's nothing new, it's not even as good as the last film the director did, it has all the same guys, and most of the same women, all doing the same acts. So much for innovation.
What are you insinuating, Renee? I hope I don't fall in the boundaries of such sentiments. I see growth in everything I do, and I hope the viewers do too, and are not feeling mislead by anyone when they see my films. Maybe you caught me at a paranoid moment, since GOTHSEND is the pick of the week, and Selena has been been such a staple in the capo collection of carnality. I book her because she can do what so many others can't...act, fuck, and take direction at the same time. But that doesn't make everything I do "gold" in her eyes. Making movies that dare to be different is what makes me gold in her eyes, and only when it's well deserved.
Jimmy D says the industry is Distributor driven and the consumer matters very little...Ain't that the fuckin' truth. The consumer will pick from whatever hits the shelves...be it shit or Shine-ola. Which was my initial point to begin with...the distributors are at the helm of our Porno Love Boat, and the ones most capable of forcing immediate change. They are the ones with all the buying power...not the consumers. If the distributors decided to put the kabash on the schlop market, they could do it in a heartbeat...or a pud-pull...or whatever small incriment of time applies.
Guy, I wasn't referring to you, your movies, or to Selena's reviews. I'm referring to people in the porn industry who are friends/work mates of a director, coming on the message board and singing the praises of said director, who's usually with one of those studios that churns out title after title, like cars off an assembly line. So, rest easy now.
Ever watch a Budweiser commercial? To hear them tell it, they're making the best beer that's ever been brewed. I wonder how their marketing budget compares to their brewing budget.

Porn will cease to be a distributor-driven business as the internet grows. Some producers have already made clear they want to cut out the middle man. One production company owner told me he can't wait until VOD really takes off so he doesn't have to deal with distributors and retailers (not the wisest thing to tell someone who's website is completely supported by retailers.)
Now as online sales are hitting their stride and VOD is growing is the perfect time for consumers to make porn a consumer-driven market. So have at it. Support the quality product by buying it and telling people about it. Educate your friends. Everyone needs a porn education. And most importantly, tell them about ADT ;)
This is exactly what I had in mind when I mentioned Budweiser. True story:
Some years ago a New York friend of mine was throwing a birthday party for his GF. She was living in Richmond for the Summer, hoping to do something special, he drove down from New York with a bunch of small brewery domestic beer and mid-priced California and French wine. Well dig this, not thirty minutes into the party someone was sent out to get a couple of cases of Bud and Bud Light. Most people didn't even try the "good stuff", and those that did try it didn't like it.
Recently I saw a documentary about the history of beer/brewing in America, and those guys from Budweiser really do think they're brewing the finest lager ever bottled. The quote I remember was "Look at the sale figures. #1 Bud, #2 Miller, #3 Coors; everyone else is an also ran."
My point? I'm not sure. Just cause everyone's buying it doesn't make it good. Just cause no one's buying it doesn't make it bad. The converse is true too.
I don't think so.. I mean in 90s people thought that by 2000 books will disappear because of the Internet. They didn't. In fact, more books were sold through the Internet.
Anyway, I think there are a lot of consumers who simply don't want porn education. I really can't be arsed to surf hundreds of producer's websites in order to find that one title I want, and I imagine many people won't either. Porn is a fast moving product -- you rent/buy/pay per view a title, wank off to it, forget about it and tomorrow, you rent another title. Repeat. I'd rather browse through a catalogue including many studios. This implies that I need distributors/retailers. With this VOD thing, I'd think sites like deluxpass will be virtual distributors or maybe major online retailers will simply start offering downloadable versions of DVDs. Anyway, I don't think studios will be able to completely rid of the middle man.
I currently order 10 Dvds per month, mainly from Anabolic, RLD, Platinum X or Evil Angel. It is always the same girls that appear in those movies, so as soon as I see someone like Taylor Rain, i know in advance she will get DPed, if i watch Nautica Thorn, I already know there won't be any anal sex. No surprise means no excitement.
The next trend would be to have high quality movies with girls that are not professional overpaid pornstars. In Europe, there is currently a genius travelling in muslim or dangerous countries, taking nasty porn pictures of innocent girls. If he could make a movie instead of taking only pictures, that would be the next big revolution. I don't mind seeing the same scene as long as the girl is always different.
Renee, thanks for putting my paranoia, probably bong-enduced, to rest.
Steph, I think you're onto something with the VOD thing. In fact, Bill Gates himself said recently that between 5 to 7 years, CDs and DVDs will be obsolete...They're just too easily scratched and permenantly damaged. People need a medium that can be summoned on command without being physically handled...and we're headed in that direction entirely with VOD.
The internet doesn't seem to be hindering WALL MART's growth as a retailer, and I doubt that our industry will ever rid the middle men either...The current consumer chain has its fair share of advantages as well. But let's hope that the desire to bring porn to that next level of accomplishment opens new avenues for erotica with true entertainment value. Nothing is stopping us but the resistance to change, and the lack of ambition to motivate others.
From constructive criticism, back to typical capo-ism..."The industry could use a good bloodletting."
"Just cause everyone's buying it doesn't make it good. Just cause no one's buying it doesn't make it bad. The converse is true too." -T.C.
people thought book STORES will disappear not books. e-books are not necessarily related to the internet. you could conceivably buy an ebook on cd or dvd. the problem with books is not one of distribution (where the interbet can help) but of consumption. people want to be able to read books everywhere. in bed, on the bus, whatever. so it is hard to lock it into an electronic medium. porn is not. people only watch it in private and usually indoors so eletronic format works fine.could not agree more and said the same thing. but wouldn't it be great if you could have the equivalent of amazon. a site that has 80%-90% of recent titles, you browse, check out reviews and download. combine that with the ability to download scenes and not just entire movies and you have the perfect formula. feeling horny today. fork out $3.50 and in 20-30 min. you will be on your way.probably not entirely but when was the last time you went to a cd store?
hi, technology. an easier way to get videos etc. getting the material to the end user easier and cheaper and quicker. this is a little different than the typical vod pay by minute options that are popular now. but instead download through the internet and put on a cd or dvd, then watch on your tv. in the future, eventually the downloading and burning is automatic etc. but using the internet to get quality videos onto your tv is the thing..getting around cable companies and shipping problems etc. small businesses can sell their videos like this with the internet when they'd have no chance of being picked up by a cable company etc or major retailers. a cd or dvd is just the easiest method of storage for now. end users are comfortable with a cd disk. they understand and put it in their machine and press play. trying to explain some new cartridge or whatever to them will be confusing. other forms of storage will improve and take over, but who knows when. Of course, this is something we are doing now:) at least for just lesbian kissing videos (so not really too adult) dsmvod.com now the way you were asking about things was probably referring just to the composition of videos...what type will be the next big 'new' thing etc.. I think it is just anything different...and in general that means one of two things,...go more extreme....or go more soft/feature/quality/story etc as different people have just mentioned... i think that it will go both ways though...rather than everyone just going one of those ways. ----
Just for shits-n-pop shots, here's my 'Revitalization of Porn' fantasy....
Full size, 3 dimensional, holographic images projected right in front of you, on your bedroom or living room floor. Like having two porn stars fucking right in front of you...You can move around them 360 degrees to see everything, or just rotate the image if your pants are around your ankles at the moment. Fuck scenes reduced to nothing but the sex, nobody bitches about bad plots, repetitive set ups, choppy edits, and music they don't like.
I don't how technology and the industry will merge to make this happen, but I think one day it will be a reality...perhaps not in my lifetime, but one day for sure. And I'd be willing to bet that porn latches on to this idea and funds its progress long before the mainstream realizes its benefits. Just like with VHS, reality-based programming, and the internet as a form of entertainment...all of which our industry invested in and capitalized on during its infantile stages.
If only the people realized how much this business has already contributed to the daily things they take for granted...
Yes, it would. But again, downloading video in most cases implies watching it on computer monitor. Sure, you can hook up PC with TV or even burn your own DVD, but I imagine that for a huge number of consumers this is not yet an option. There are lots of folks who like to chill on a couch with a remote, sip beer and enjoy their widescreens with surround sound.
That sounds like something right out of "Demolition Man." Ever see those video games where you can import a photo of your head and map it to a computer generated figure and put yourself in the game? I think the day will come where you can superimpose your head on an actors body and watch yourself screw the actress of your choice, or maybe a chick you've been dying to get with. Ahh the future. I'm not holding my breath though, I'm still waiting for flying cars.
As an aspiring writer so I kinda take a hit when anyone mentions bad plots or eliminating stories. I understand the need to get to the sex right away. Good writing can get you there quickly and thinking, "I can't wait to see these two go at it." I recently read where Playgirl TV was developing movies and while women wanted better setup to sex they couldn't do it because the adult actors acting ability wasn't up to it. I think it's a good step to have directors like Guy who have gone to school for film try and make a mark. Now imagine if you added actors who candle handle a hefty acting load and a writer who was schooled and understood porn. Contrary to what you might think the result would not be a mainstream film with sex which is why I think people dismiss it so easily.
Maybe I am strange, but I fukking love it. That alone can get me off. I also want to see more making out(tongue action) between the performers. That alone can be as hot as a blow job.
Porn DVDs are like music CDs. You may stop playing a cool song for a while but you always go back to it.

I dont know about technical inventions, but me, too, I think porn stars will cease to exist at least in Europe. Instead we will get Hundrets of very short-time porn actresses. Girls just appearing in 3 films and such. Lots of variety and surprise.

Girls doing guys with strapons I think will be the next big thing. Since movies like "Creampie for the staright guy" and "Cum In My Mouth I'll Spit it back in yours" and "65 guy creampie" etc. I don't really think its gay a little kinky but not gay. With gay shows being very popular and meterosexualality being popular this is definitely going to be the next big thing.

Hmmm! I am not so sure about this anymore. At the moment it looks like porn stars in Europe cease to exist, because no girls do play in porn movies anymore.
Video changed porn from plotted features to a medium where story and artistic values mattered a whole lot less.
The DVD w/ greater ability to replay scenes, stills, etc. has probably played a role in gonzo, which I think few people watch all the way through in one setting.
some marriage between the DVD and the computer seems to be next. I know there have been attempts at more interactive porn, but no one's done it well yet. I think there will be less and less resemblance between porn and "movies" as we move more towards virtual reality.
fwiw, the real changes aren't things that consumers think to ask for. Once the product is out there, the consumers discover that they want it. A lot of people were perfectly happy with video cassettes....when DVD came into the market.
1. Full immersion stereo. High definition 3D vision and sound, via headset. This is not virtual reality since the viewer has no control of the shot, but it is a big improvement on a flat screen across the room. This one could be done today with existing technology.
2. Virtual reality porn: Like full immersion, but viewer controls scene and activity in real time, including conversation with performers. Technology is probably 5 to 10 years away.
3. Sensovision. Like either 1 or 2, but all five senses are recorded and experienced. Touch, taste and scent, not just sound and vision. Blue sky tech. Not sure if anyone is even trying to develop this.
Aside from futuristic tech fantasies that might or might not happen in the next few decades, what's just around the corner is pretty interesting, too:
1) Affordable widescreen TVs on which to view high-definiton porno DVDs.
2) Good new material that can cheaply be downloaded from the net, stored on hard drives and saved on DVD blanks (if they get scratched, just make another copy).
3) Commonplace 4 hour DVD adventures. Imagine spending not an hour or two but the WHOLE morning with your favorite pornstars. (7-8am - breakfast. 8 to noon - PORNO. Noon - lunchbreak.)
4) More affordable high-def and compact vidcams for the masses, resulting in tons more good quality amateur sex, giving us all a welcome break from the fake "gonzo" stuff that has glutted the market. What's "real" or "gonzo" about the same handful of prepaid contract actresses pretending they accidentally bumped into a porn director and will drop their pants on the spot? Nothing.
5) The result will be some great stuff we've never seen before. Amatuer contributions sent to online sites featuring all those great hot girlfriends and wives, submitted by their boyfriends and husbands, or even by the girls themselves.
6) And last but not least, less of a dependence on old fashioned distribution methods and DVD cost control. In the not so distant future, HD-DVD porno should be $5 a pop and last four hours. It'll later go to 6 hours and they'll be nicknamed "half-dayers." And they won't be just fuzzy complation junk, either. There will also be thousands more hours on the net of free trailers and archives of them to burn on DVDs also.
As it stands, the powers that be have kept most DVDs at or around $20 for over 10 years. This is a ridiculous ripoff. But those days are numbered. What we've been paying for is a bunch of overpriced contract players like in the days of old Hollywood, and then we also paid for their big galas they hold to pat each other on the back and give each other awards. Well, those days are numbered, too. In the future, many more consumers will rule the roost, both in amateuer (REAL gonzo ) production and buying leverage. And we'll be voting to give OURSELVES the best porno awards!
First of all the movie have to make you horny and todays porn just dont seem enough to make it.For example many of us forget many movies because they are exactly the same.Where are movies with interesting and ingenious plot? Writers and directors should seek for movies who are decent and dont underestimate our intelligence
I'm looking forward to HD-DVD and I really think that it can make a real difference for my current "boredness" with what is out there. Bad, blurry dvd transfers along with too much makeup makes much of today's porn look artificial. With HD-DVD everything (including flaws) will be revealed, which is both good and bad, but I don't think I'll mind. After all, porn stars are real human beings with real bodies which are not 100% perfect. The added "reality" will make the sex hotter IMO.
