Just a thought..that's all a thought. Are there widescreen adult titles out there? I wondered how a widescreen anamorphic (16x9 enhanced) enhanced Timeless must look. Hmm... Anamorphic Enhancement (16x9 enhanced): A feature encoded on dvd discs..don't know if any adult titles out there has it..but regular dvd movies from Universal, Columbia, New Line, Dreamworks, etc embraces it and has it. Anamorphic enhancement benefits widescreen tv owners. The disc being encoded with the enhancement..the hardware which is your dvd player recongnizes the feature and then diminishes the black bars found on the widescreen discs..and at the same time..(here's the beauty)..it gives you also 33% more resolution. So basically you get a pristine image. Although I think 16x9 on adult titles will benefit Gangbang action. Any ideas on this? Have you wondered and thought about it also? I don't own such a tv set yet..and probably for a year or two..I might embrace one...(issues of outputs and inputs on the set has yet to be worked out)..but I just wondered. Sorry if this is a stupid idea.
sonic: I haven't seen any adult movies in widescreen (letterboxed or anamorphic). Michael Ninn movies come close, since he does present the opening and closing credits in letterboxed format. I think I mentioned in my review of Ritual that Ninn's movies are some of the only ones that seriously deserve widescreen treatment... How many porn titles were ever shot in a widescreen format? Few, if any, is my understanding, therefore formatting them to a widescreen, 16x9 aspect ratio would cause cropping and/or a distorted picture, correct?
ultradamno: You're right...it would be meaningless to convert existing titles to 16x9--you just wouldn't do it. However, there's an argument that a very limited number of adult movies are classy enough that a widescreen format might be justified on creative grounds. I think that widescreen adds a professional and filmlike quality, which some adult films justify. Coming from a mainstream DVD perspective, full frame (1.33:1) aspect ratio is considered by many to be A Bad Thing, since most of the material is formatted from a wider aspect. That isn't an issue with X-rated stuff since it's filmed in full frame to begin with. But it does make me wonder how the adult industry will adapt to the coming high definition formats and widescreen televisions (I'll bet in 3 years, most TVs will be 16x9). With a widscreen TV, you won't have to see the black bars... Saki ------------------ [url=455144]My Adult DVD List</A (Updated 2/18/00) | [url=455145]My Adult DVD Reviews</A
Hey all, I dont know if this was the director's intent or not, but my Pyramid #1 disc appears to be widescreen 1.85:1... dont know how to tell if its anamorphic or not... - FDC

Saki You see my thought on this brings up certain issues. Just what you said is what's embedded in my mind. Afe adult studios gonna release 16x9 XXX since most likely HDTV and widescreen tv sets are going to take over in the very near future? With such a long and picture look image..more sex can take place. The scenery and action is more involving. But I wouldn't want the current crop of titles redone in widescreen..oh no. The way I see it..if it was made that way..leave it that way..because maybe..something might be removed. I wouldn't be surprised because many dvd movie making studios enjoy stripping the original formula.Yes. Exactly. I meant studios to target future releases though. I should have clarified that.

friendly DVD collector You can easily determine if it's anamorphic or not. 1) Insert disc in dvd player 2) Set player in menu screen to "16X9 screen" 3) Play the movie 4) If the movie appear bigger, stretched, and the black bars are tiny or diminished, it's anamorphic.
Any adult film actually shot on film,as opposed to videotape could be in widescreen. I have a few adult DVD's that are in widescreen like Tatiana and parts of Andrew Blakes films and they look awesome. Just think older classics were shot on film and shown in theaters, now they are all cropped down to fit on a 4:3 TV screen, who knows what we are missing. As a side subject if you have a DVD player with Component Video Outputs, you should invest in a TV with Component Inputs. It truly outperforms S-Video.
Well, since most of the recent video cameras, and all (I think) of the digital video cameras have a 16x9 format option, my guess is we'll start seeing widescreen porn as the widescreen TV's themselves become more common. I read on alt.video.dvd some months ago that TV shows like Buffy, Xena and many others regarded as having a strong home video market are being shot this way for that very reason.
Just because a movie is shot on film doesn't mean that it's of a 16x9 aspect ratio. This is especially true of older films shot flat to academy scale, such as Psycho, for instance. I doubt very many of even the classic porn movies existed in the widescreen format since that would have been the more expensive way to film. Also, I was under the impression the horizontal bars on Private releases was a result of PAL to NTSC conversion rather than the titles in question ever having been true widescreen. I know a lot of their titles which were not shot on film have them (in fact, I think I read Tatiana was shot on super Betacam, I could be wrong). ultradammo - Add Babylon5 to that list. I think the consensus here is "keep the movies in their original aspect ratios, but if you can go wide, go WIDE!" C'mon, what director doesn't want more screen area to play with? Okay, a few, but still, think of the possibilities... ------------------ "When authorities warn you of the sinfullness of sex, there is an important lesson to be learned: Do not have sex with authorities."

What if the adult disc had widescreen and standard screen on the same dual layer side? Oh..I see smilies! [This message has been edited by sonic (edited February 23, 2000).]
Of porn directors? I doubt too many of them whose names are popping into my head right now would know what to do with more screen area. Hell, most of 'em don't know how to handle the little square they've got to fill now. But just so there's no confusion, I am in harmony with the group consensus on widescreen as a default preference which you cite above.

I'll give a strong Amen to that! [This message has been edited by Dyanna Lauren (edited February 23 3000).]
Well, if the movie was shot in widescreen aspect ratio, and you're watching the Pan & Scan version(full screen, no "black bars") you're losing somewhere around 30-40% of the onscreen image......just think that could be a good thing in the Adult video case, cutting of the "hairy bobbing manass" or the "pre-ejacuation male fuckface".

deathstick Great point! I did not think about that! It slipped in my mind. I for one wouldn't want to miss a piece of feminine ass cheek. [This message has been edited by sonic (edited February 25, 2000).]
