I thought Howard Stern was a porn fan, and I think he is, but last night's E show had a mocking tone and he basically makes fun of the AVN awards and the intelligence of those involved. Most notably were Lexington Steele and Cytherea's tearful acceptance speech.

One of the many things I found ridiculous was an interview with Britney Rears on the so called "red carpet" of the porn awards. You know, the place where all major networks are covering the event. She states that she has been in porn for three months and that she is "fresh meat". After reading other threads I don't think I'm alone when I say that this is a pathetic gimmick. I recognize who she is. Why couldn't she just tell the truth about who she is and how long she has been making smut films? Maybe she came up with this idea herself, but if not what genius decided to steer her in this direction?

I'm kinda with Stern on the cheeseiness factor of the whole thing. I'm in the mainstream film industry myself and I'm generally tired of 58 award shows we need a year for everyone to pat eachother on the back. But porn awards? C'mon. Tonys, Oscars, Grammys, Emmys. I like watching porn just as much as the next guy, but that seemed so silly to me watching the Stern show last night. Draw the line. And if you're going to have the awards which you undoubtedly will at least get someone with befitting production knowledge. I've never been to the awards and will probably never go but just from what I saw last night from a supposed $10 billion a year industry I don't think that it is beyond the realm for the people who put these things together. Don't get me wrong I think the convention part is a great idea, but awards for fucking and sucking seems so superfluous. Lets have awards for the janitorial profession next. The AVN awards rank right up there with eating contests to me on the importance factor. I realize its not about me, and I'm sure I'll get railed for my opinions, but last night's Stern show was a real eye-opener for me, and I felt the need to express it.

IMO, Stern loves Stern, and loves to hear himself rant/talk/pontificate.

Entertainment industry award shows exist primarily for one reason...to promote that industry by proclaiming excellence within it. The fact that anybody, other than members of that industry, actually sits and watches these award shows (Oscars, Emmys, Grammys, AVN, etc...) makes absolutely no sense to me. They're all silly.

And you thought wrong. Stern is not a porn fan. He's a fan of whatever hot pornstar recently came into his studio. I'd be willing to bet that he couldn't name 5 active porn stars if you excluded those who have appeared on his show.

I like the AVN awards. Why shouldn't porn have awards and recognition for what they do? I also think they're are better than most of the pathetic mainstream awards shows. Even if you think the idea of awards for fucking and sucking is ridiculus and that they're fixed anyway, the event is a nice occasion where most of the industry gets together, dresses up and partys. Plus the mainstream coverage helps the industry.

Bill is totally correct about Howard Stern. I've been hearing him on the radio and watching his TV program for many years and I'm of the opinion that he's a complete newbie when it comes to the adult industry. Granted, he has met an awful lot of porn babes in his time but thats as far as his real interest is concerned. Everything else in his world is about keeping his own persona alive in the public eye.

It's never surprised me that the music and radio industry are very hot to get into the sex industry. It's not just porn, it's not just Stern . . It's also the KLOS/KROQ/KIIS and even AM radio types that are constantly looking for something like "The Tongue" or "101 Nights of Great Sex" to promote on their show.

It's more of a ratings game than anything. When I worked in radio, it was always "Get the porn star in on Thursday, and schedule them in the last 15 minutes of the hour."

IMO, if you put Bill and Denver Don's posts together you have the truth behind Stern and porn- they summed it up perfectly.

I don't think there's any question that Stern is a fan of himself first and foremost but I also he think he is a fan of porn as well. I think he's done a lot for the porn industry. He's just not so consumed with the name and background of every porn star that appears on his show.

And I also think it's also hilarious when a porn star is crying during her speach when accepting an award for something like the year's "best double anal".

And it's not just the porn industry that Stern ridicules. Long time listeners know that he ridicules everything , including himself...especially himself!

Of course I agree that Stern is totally self-absorbed. He always seems to need that external validation by asking if his guests would sleep with him and most of them actually seem to kinda give a reluctant "Yes" or a "Probably". I think the guy looks like six foot fuckin' ant-eater, but I'm not gay and I'm not a female so my opinion really doesn't matter. I'm willing to bet all of that is for image damage control.

But, the awards show was really what I was talking about. I really just couldn't help feel sorry for the people accepting awards who were taking it so seriously. I was actually laughing to myself in disbelief watching the show. Even if the sole purpose of the awards is to in fact proclaim excellence within the porn world I thought crying and thanking your mom for best double anal or whatever award was comical to say the least.

I see nothing wrong in showing emotion when winning an award. I think these girls put their blood, sweat, and tears in their work and while the awards may be debatable as to who should win or not I have no problem with someone crying when accepting. Having pride in one's work whatever it is should be respected and never ridiculed. Sorry to rant, lol.

Congrats to everyone who won at AVN this year.

Eric, I didn't mean to derail the thread. If I did, my apologies.

As far as the awards show goes, I have absolutely no problem that it is held, or that some performers show some emotion when receiving them. As bono said, there has been a lot of blood, sweat, and tears poured into them. I don't think the AVN awards are any more superfluous that a lot of the other awards show.

If you want a truly superfluous award event, you might try the Darwin Awards. A lot of those winners have already bitten the bullet.

okay, veering off, by only picking one side of the post and not including the awards part.

Winning some of those awards can be worth 10's if not 100's of thousands of dollars to some of the performers. If a porn star travels around the country feature dancing, I'd bet that an AVN award like "Starlet of the Year" is probably worth $1,000-2,000 extra per week. Even if they don't go on the road, I'd bet that nearly every performers rate goes up after winning her first AVN award.
