I use to use HTML back in the day, but then stopped. Recently I have tried to pick it back up. All the Tags are like riding a bike and have come back to me pretty easily, but actually viewing my HTML files I've written is were I'm having major trouble. I read in-depth HTML help websites and I believe I am doing everything correctly, but my browser(IE) just wont view the HTML for some reason.

Anybody know of something that may be causing my browser not to be able to view the HTML?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Without an example to view it's almost impossible to tell. Are you sure you named the file with .htm or .html?

I hate using word to create html. It adds so much bloat it's amazing. Notepad has always worked for me and TextPad is even better because of the contextual tags. If you've saved as .html I can't see why such a simple code wouldn't work. I pasted it into Dreamweaver and changed the parentheses into tags and it opened in my browser just like it should.

Make sure when you save it you change the "Save As Type" to ALL files. For extra measures I suggest un-checking the hide file extentions for known file types under the folder options -> view.

I'm betting your files are actually coming out like:

basic.htm.txt, in which case it will open in notepad, not explorer.

I want to thank everybody who replied trying to help me. I think I have got it straight now. The problem started with my occasional dyslexia. When I read the HTML help sites & all your posts my brain morphed NotePad into WordPad. This mistake was helped by MS hiding NotePad in some odd folder while showing off WordPad all over XP. I did a search on my system found NotePad used it and it worked immediately.
