Fair warning...this is at least the second advertisement for this Yahoo group. I'm sure it's a helpful service but I'm not going to tolerate a bunch of threads (announcements, requests, etc.) for DVD caps on this forum.
Saki, this isn't something for the public at large, it is for Adult DVD Talk people. I'm too stupid to figure out how to get screenshots into my reviews, so this is the means to still have them. Are you now suggesting that I shouldn't have a link to the site in my reviews, saying, "for screenshots, visit this site?" Again, this is a service FOR ADT people, so your warning confuses me. I would actually have expected you to join and post some vidcaps.
i have to agree with SAKI here, becuase you are on the verge of "copyright" but i do understand Speelie's point of view about posting reviews with pictures, but thats what i thought the Reviews page is all about ? i mean, don't get me wrong here but, i think there should be another site thats hosted by www.adultdvdtalk.com which does reviews with sreen shots, i think that would he huge! like www.adultdvdtalk.com/reviews ?

Speelie, it is a fine line moderators have to mind in regards to what is advertising and what is being helpful to other forum members.
The information on this site was already posted elsewhere. Repetitive posts regarding the site would be inappropriate and thus Saki (in what I think was a very nice way) stated that was the case.
Had it been my forum, I would have deleted the post and emailed the poster. Everyone would have gotten ruffled feathers and I would have been swamped in emails. So I think this was a diplomatic solution.
Try not to take things so personal...moderators are just trying to maintain an orderly forum, our judgment calls are no reflection on our feelings for posters or even sometimes the subject matter.

I'm kinda confused, I guess. I think everyone who has the means and/or the time are posting screenshots with their reviews now - although as Steph has pointed out, this will eventually cause bandwidth problems if they're not shrunk.
Don't forget to label all pics with the studio name, too, they get tightened up about that.
For the record, I was not really referring to the copyright infringement issue (although there is one). I'm not even talking about the bandwidth issue. I just don't want to see a bunch of "come visit this Yahoo group" threads. I'd rather see it put in a signature or on the AdultDVDTalk's links page instead of threads like this one.
Similarly, I'm just trying to head off threads entitled, "REQ: Screenshots of Gangbang Clowns in Heat" filing the forum. This isn't a capping forum, which is why I think it's great that someone wants to start a public service like JZA points to.
Since the issues were brought up:
- Copyrights: The studios have indicated in the past that they don't mind reasonable (i.e. not capping just about every frame of the entire movie), attributed (i.e. crediting the movie title and studio), and not-for-profit (i.e. no monetary gain for the images) captures.
- Captures on AdultDVDTalk site: In case you haven't seen, Drew and Steph don't have a policy against hosting vidcaps. In fact, several people have quite a large number of caps (dumbblonde, joeblow, and others). The issue of bandwidth is not insignificant, but I think they probably end up helping increase this site's commissions since pictures tend to encourage sales (especially since most people cap only the "good stuff"). It's just a matter of balancing between a decent screenshot and a super-high resolution one that takes up 10-20 times the space of a smaller one.
- Saki joining the capping group: Since capturing good images, resizing them, labeling them, and posting them takes a long time, I think I'll stick to puting them in my reviews. I'd rather spend the time catching up on the 100 or so reviews that I need to do. But I don't have a problem with such a group, and if I had more time (and a more regular source of new porn), I probably would.
I wonder if the studios can have anything to say about it at all. Screencaps that accompany reviews totally fall under fair use -- i.e. they're being used to comment upon the art.

I have been specifically told by several studios that they don't mind screenshots accompanying reviews, or product sales (properly credited of course.)
We will have an easy means to upload screenshots - the screenshots will accompany reviews and/or price search results. Many reviewers are already doing an excellent job with screenshots in their reviews - I would like to make the process easier for them.
JZA, I appreciate that you want to provide a service to adult DVD shoppers, but like Saki said, please don't use the forum as a place to advertise it. I'd be happy to provide a link on our links page. I'm always available via email for requests like that.
