The problem with these stories of sex-trafficking is that prostitution is illegal in most countries. And a lot of these women are in the country illegally. These women have broken the law. And the easiest way for them to escape punishment is to win the sympathy of their police captors and the public.
Perhaps some of these stories are real. But the thing is, virtually every woman caught breaking the law like that has the incentive to lie in order to avoid going to jail. The woman in such a situation isn't exactly free to speak the truth. Because any unfavorable truth she says may be held against her in a court of law.
