On the one hand I have in my memory her appearance on that American news magazine T.V. show where she said she hates the biz, is only in it for the money, doesn't genuinely like "rough sex", and that she often cries herself to sleep at night etc.. On the other hand, I hear in these message boards that: she LOVES the biz, is in it for the sex, is genuinely WILD, and genuinely LIKES "rough sex" etc. I've thought to my self that the appearance on the T.V. show mentioned above was a carefully calculated publicity stunt on her part. But then again I'm not there witnessing things, I'm not her best friend, I'm not her confidant so...

Can anyone close to Belladonna clear the air for me/tell me what's what?

I'm not close to anyone in porn, but here is an interesting article about this very subject. They ask exactly the same question as you do:

I think it's a pretty simple explanation: Money. When Belladonna did the 20/20 piece her career had yet to take the metoric rise that she experienced. Money has a way of changing someone's mind about what they feel may be objectionable or maybe even unacceptable. I think Belladonna decided that she enjoys the paycheck enough to endure what she may have felt was degrading, painful, and abusive.On the other hand, maybe she was just telling 20/20 a load of shit and she really enjoys the porn lifestyle. My guess is that it's probably more of a combination of the two.

I can see why you are confused. From what i understand (according to her) Belladonna was misrepresented by the documentary by the way they edited her comments. They had deliberatly set out to make the story bad/sad.
All i know is that i discovered her after the documentary was made and all the amazing stuff i've seen her do was done long after it.
Since that documentary she has her own fantastic website, own videos, own company, is with the best comapny in the industry, has got married and has a child. So i'd say she's doing pretty well for herself now.
