A few days ago the menus started to become impossible to navigate. I can still watch the movies, like if it were VHS, but I can't navigate through DVD menus properly. If I am in a disc menu and press the up or down control on my remote, the selected menu choice will continue to cycle all the way down or up and start at the opposite end. I have to press Enter at just the right time to actually go to a menu choice. The left and right navigation buttons are not working. I cannot navigate through photo galleries at all. If I am watching a movie, the chapter skip buttons are functioning as 2X forward or backward buttons, rather than chapter skip buttons. The fast forward and rewind remote buttons, on the other hand, are not working. Neither is the Stop button. At first I thought the batteries in my remote were going out, so I replaced them. That didn't help. (It was annoying that this happened after the one day a week that the company store where I work is open. I work in a battery factory. The two AAA batteries that I bought for over $2 at the grocery store would have probably cost me less than 50 cents at the company store, probably closer to just a quarter.) But that didn't help. Neither did dusting the front of the actual DVD player and cleaning it with rubbing alcohol and a kleenex. So I bought a cheapie universal remote, and programmed it to work with Toshiba DVD players. I'm getting the same thing with it as I got with the old remote. So I guess that even though my player has usually played everything fine with a minimum of skipping, a problem with a chip somewhere is making it hard to navigate discs and I'm going to have to buy a whole new player. I guess this post is more to bitch than to ask for advice, but so be it.

At least DVD players are cheap nowadays, though I'll probably not get a 5 disc DVD changer like I have now.
