ma meeshka Iconoclastic Member 3939 Posts 4/06	Posted - May 9 2007 : 8:09AM i think the early 2000 stuff was good. in the gauge era. the best feature stuff i saw was by VCA. of course, they also produced some dreadful stuff as well, so it wasn't all great. i will admit that i love the fantasy of fiction. gonzo doesn't deliver that. but it rarely works. or, it rarely delivers what i want it to. which is usually plot related deviance. the feature usually just frames the standard sex scenes, instead of building the sex out of the scenarios. I've seen the Dorcel films translated at least. Although I think for the most part I've only seen Dorcel films with Laure Sanclair (sp???).....I like them though, it helps that the women are always much hotter than most girls in gonzo type stuff. Sometimes I think it's a distraction - who cares about the story, you want to see sex - but then when I watch the compilations it's like it gets to be sensory overload without some dialogue to space the scenes out and take a breather. I remember a few years ago VH1 was showing a documentary about porn and how it was becoming "mainstream" again. They credited studios like Vivid. They had an interview with a fan who said, "I like adult films where it seems like what's in the movie could really happen to you." Well I don't know about that. I've never been driving to work and seen Jenna Jameson hitchhiking, picked her up, let her stay in my house and then been rewarded by her with hot sex. But I guess it's still more realistic than the old "bored housewife and the pool cleaner" setup. [Link]

I just wish the quality was a little better. Some of the story line drags on though. It's nice to see some un-groomed snatch and not every scene ending in a facial. RichB Member 65 Posts 4/05	Posted - Jun 1 2007 : 1:19PM I work in the adult industry and started in mainstream - kind of an ass-backwards approach, but since I'm such a fan of fine asses, it's working out - but few non-industry folk realize the difficulties inherent in creating story-driven porn. Most of these performers prefer to do gonzo since they are in-and-out (figuratively and literally) in a couple hours. If they have dialogue they are forced to hang around the set for the whole day (and miss the chance of the golden double-booking). Many are now requesting an additional 'modest' fee to do dialogue which of course raises the budget even more (and a dialogue sex film takes more time/money to produce in general). And then there is the fact that very few performers can act their way out of a paper bag. The last and final frustration is qualifying that your story will have any real continuity since performers still have a rather high flake-quotient and on any scheduled day your lead actress might decide to drive to Vegas. Still, taking into account all of these hazards, as a fan I prefer to watch sexy stories (as long as the sex is organic and stimulated by the plot, and not a nonsensical additive) and even prefer to struggle as a filmmaker to make plotted-porn. But with the ease, talent preference/ability and cost savings to make gonzo, it is no wonder why most directors/producers stick to they simple wall-to-wall and stay away from that third wall.... Either from more units sold or higher prices (or both). I guess that is not the case for porn flicks. From a content point of view (no pun intended) it seems the lower the cost and the lower the selling price the better. If such is the case, then it appears that porn has become a commodity, as in, all are pretty much the same. [Link]

But producers aren't stupid and realize why go to the trouble of working harder and spending more bills when you can skate and make more back on a less expensive product. I prefer the story driven porno since it has the chance to heighten the sexual aura of the girls (who aren't always as sexy as they appear), granted the story is titillating and the scene is directed well-enough. I started watching porn when they were plot driven, although most of the plots were pretty ridiculous and the acting was so-so. There were performers like Ron Jeremy and Vanessa del Rio who had a comedic flair and the movies were alot of fun. I enjoy watching Wicked Pictures now because they are plot driven and have some pretty decent acting along with hot sex. I've never been a big fan of wall-to-wall sex. [Link]

But more because the locations. "A couch" gets real tiresome. Porn Wars is a big exception.. I saw that, not thinking it was some huge sci-fi movie, but just for the production value and hoping for a passable story. I couldn't get passed the HORRIBLE acting. I don't expect Oscar winners, and even someone that doesn't speak English isn't necessarily bad. But in that movie I couldn't even understand some of it, and some looked horribly bored. Now, I don't mind some other porn that's just sex, but then, only if I find the star VERY attractive (and it doesn't have some stuff I really dislike seeing). One of the best features I've seen so far is Neighbors. Now that I found genuinely funny and Stormy is gorgeous. Can't wait to check out some of her other movies. [Link]

Lame, maybe... but still true. I LOVE the best of the old story stuff - the stories were often silly, the "acting" occasionally atrocious, and the production values strictly from poverty. But they not only got you interested and sometimes made you laugh -- from time to time they were also Stone Hot. I think the setup for a scene - the identification of the characters as something more than interchangeable fuck-bots - makes the payoff MUCH better. New filmmakers have been catching onto this, too, I think - altporn is full of real Characters. At the same time, I also enjoy a select few of the plot-free productions. There are some talented people making these, nowadays. And the best of them, to me, are based on the same thing: getting a glimpse (however contrived it may be) of the REAL PEOPLE involved. (Hi Bella! Hi Joanna...) What I can't STAND, plot or not, is the by-the-numbers Fuck Film Drill (tease-oral-vag positions 1 thru 6-anal-popshot) of faceless clone dolls. "OK, NEXT clone doll, please." Attention Filmmakers: This is Bor-RING!!! And unfortunately, some people's idea of story porn is to interrupt the plot, stop the action -- and start the Fuck Film Drill. Oy. Talent will out, and lack of talent... constitutes the bulk of the adult market. Thank heaven for review sites like this one. [Link]
