Between the year 2001 and 2009, I consistently bought between 20 -30 DVDs a year. I usually bought from AdultDVDEmpire.com. However, last year (2011) was the first year I bought nothing in the last 10 years. In 2010 I only bought 4 DVDs and 1 Blu-ray.
The primary reasons I have stopped buying is because
1.) the movie I want is not available on Blu-Ray
2.) if the movie is available on Blu-ray it is priced at like $40 or $50, which is prohibitively expensive.
3.) I've stopped buying DVDs from companies like New Sensations and Digital Sin because I keep finding watermarks on the DVD movies. I haven't bought a New Sensations or Digital Sin DVD since 2008 because of this.
4.) I don't like Anal and it seems like it's getting harder to find movies that are mostly vaginal.
I know there are companies (like Digital Playground) that have a lot of Blu-Ray, but (with no disrepect intended) I haven't liked any Digital Playground movies I've ever seen. So I don't buy a lot of Digital Playground. The studios I've found I mostly buy from are Diabolic, 3rd Degree, Evil Angel, Shane's World, Elegant Angel, Red Light District, Marc Dorcel (released through Wicked), Devil's Film, Digital Sin, and New Sensations. But like I said earlier, I stopped buying Digital Sin and New Sensations because of Watermarks.
I'm interested in finding out if others' porn buying has dropped off in recent years.
Also, why is Blu-ray not "taking off" like DVD did? Why is it so expensive? Why are companies not releasing in Blu-ray (is it because of expense)? Are my porn buying days over? I'm not interested in paying for "streaming porn." I'd possibly consider something I can download and keep. But ultimately I prefer a disc with "studio quality" high definition image and sound that I can purchase and "own."

All power to you. My interest in porn in general has not declined but I have tired of all the garbage out there where directors have no creativity and every scene seems identical to the rest.
Shane's World is about the only studio you mentioned that has some appeal because they do not use the same set or the same performers to adnauseam. New Sensations has very attractive, young women but every scene seems lethargic and the girls usually are jaded to the sex. Does anyone else besides me get annoyed at the constant moans and groans of the girls who are more often faking pleasure?
I'm not sure why Blu Ray has not taken off. There is a marketing term called a "skimming price". This is what happens when a new product is introduced it is sold at a highly inflated price until it is mass produced. Think about VCRs when they first came out in the early 80s, they cost a fortune. The Blu-Ray is very expensive and most of it IMO is because the standard DVD has not been phased out yet. If you saw an overnight transition from standard DVD to Blu-Ray the prices of the Blu-Ray would drop very fast. Companies are still cranking out standard DVD so this keeps the Blu-Ray prices very high.
About the streaming, I refuse to pay the ridiculous prices per minute to stream adult content. Why adult companies charge such high fees is beyond my grasp. If people stop paying for it, you would see a fast drop in the price.
In regard to buying porn titles, I don't. I rent on and off from the half dozen big adult companies. It makes no sense to plop down $20 for a single DVD unless you have money to burn.

mkbaraco, I hear ya on point 4 in particular. Anal seems to be a basic requirement for many fans; although I'm not totally adverse to it, I'm not too into it. But trying to find movies without any anal is indeed becoming increasingly difficult (especially in the UK, where only a fraction of the movies released make it here on DVD...and only a handful on blu-ray).

I only have one Blu-ray porn movie. The only reason I have that one is because it's a DIGITAL PLAYGROUND release that only came in a Blu-ray/DVD combo pack. In my mind porn isn't something that warrants paying extra for Blu-ray when the regular DVDs serve up a pretty sharp picture. In fact I prefer the slightly softer look of regular DVDs. I've had a Blu-ray player for a couple of years now but haven't really bought that many mainstream Blu-rays until the last 6 months or so. Mainstream Blu-rays have finally dropped enough in price in comparison to DVDs. Even with price being closer to DVD prices, I still mostly only go with the Blu-ray for the additional extras.
With porn in my mind the slightly sharper picture isn't worth paying more money if there aren't any additional extras for the extra price. Realistically, I think Blu-ray is great when the movie has exciting visuals and a humpin' soundtrack to be exploited. With porn you have people in a house with the sounds of "Oh yeah!" playing through your speakers. Not really important for sharp images and sound. I have to imagine most people feel the same way. I really don't think at this point in the game porn is going to transition to Blu-ray unless becomes as cheap to do so as regular DVDs. I don't think the demand is big enough.
I'd say give VIDEOBOX a try because they off up thousands of DVD quality and a growing list of HD movies that you can download and own for a really cheap price per month and you can even stream to your tv....But if you're only interested in the newest releases it's not for you.
