My desk top will not boot up and is 4 years old. Hp is what i have, misplaced the recovery disc it is requesting on a black screen. As well adding to the problem a clanking sound in the computer when i start it up. Experts have said based on hearing what iam printing sounds like the hard drive ( a real pain in the ASS!) Any advice? A new one starts at $599 without the needed software Another $200.00. Will have it checked fro 15 minutes for free.

My sister's computer had a similar problem last year. Her computer started to make the same noise you have reported. She told me she took her computer to a shop for repairs. They told her that her hard drive was broken. She had to pay them to replace the hard drive on her computer.

Assuming the harddrive is broken, you can fix your computer by buying a new replacement harddrive from any retailer, and buying a recovery disc from HP.
The recovery disc is around $25 I think.
Hard drives are $60ish depending on storage capacity, maker, retailer, etc.
Of course this is a best guess based on the info provided.

Yeah, its probably the harddrive. Hp wants $30 fro the recovery and said i would need help installing it for $44.99, then the harddrive, if gone needs reinstalling of software, plus the printer may not work with it, do not have the disc that came with printer. Thank u as well for your help. It is appreciated. Iam working off a laptop, just so darn use to a desk top.
Again, Thank u
