Uhhhh, where the hell have you been? The feminist movement has been the MOST anti-porn for years now. They make the Southern Baptist Convention look like a union picket line at a flea market by comparison. Feminists have done more to damage the porn business than anyone else out there.
Now don't try and tell me that the feminist movement is conservative......

Actually the radical anti-porn feminists like Dworkin pretty much lost the war on porn and today it is Linda Williams' viewpoint that is most popular with younger feminists.

Sorry RP, I have to sound like a 8 track recorder in an endless loop too. If we had such a glut of women degrading porn in the Netherlands here in the 80s or 90s, then good
teen porn movies had never so many female fans.
If GGG, Max Hardcore or stupid gonzo porn had been among the first porn movies I had watched, I would NEVER have been interested in watching more porn. Never. No way !
I think, I would have been a member of an anti-porn coalition.
Luckily, girlfriends "forced" me to watch
a dutch Seventeen Schoolgirls video.
You are true, that so many women have enormous prejudices regarding porn.
But many porn labels cultivate these prejudices......

I think your wrong. If you had been in the USA and seen porn grow in this country. From the flicking 8 mm loops shown in seedy filthy back rooms of the 50's and 60's to the rundown movie houses in the 70's to VCR's in the 80's that brought porn home, to today where in is available in every hotel and motel and in every home with a computer. I don't think you would say that. Porn was legalized in this country in 1973 and has come a very long way.
The oldest cave drawing we have found so far was of people having sex. Go to art galleries of Europe you see panting of people fucking. The artwork from every civilization depicts all the perversions known to man. As soon as the camera was invented people started making porn. Every generation think they invented fucking.
Society has always gone though brief periods of conservatism but always moves away from it. People like to fuck, watch people fuck, and be scene fucking.
No the feminist are not conservative but they did join the ultra – conservatives on sex related issues. Mostly on the age of consent and sexual harassment laws. The ultra – conservatives were shamed into supporting these laws. Very little if any damage was done to porn.
But I don’t see what damage was done to porn. Now if another republican is elected president I think you will see some real damage done.

One of these days I would like a conservative to explain to me “WHAT” about feminism is “NOT” conservative.
Coming from Texas here I confronted a lot of feminist hating conservative and liberal men.
But when I ask them questions about the feminist agenda and laws that were passed It seems they are feminist too.
Question 1 Should your brother-in-law be able to beat the shit out of your sister. Answer no
Question 2 Should your daughter have to fuck her boss to keep her job Answer no
Question 3 Should your wife have to work for less money than her male co-workers
Answer no

I don't think your points are so much about feminism as about equality. Feminism would favor the female. Equality is better.

@Shagdog:
Feminists are splitted in two groups :
The conservative feminists and the
independent or individual ( press labelled us
"pro porn" ) feminists.
Conservative feminists arent 100% conservative, they are still pro-abortion, they still defend the rights of the women on work ( equal payment, no sexual discrimination ).
But they hate porn and fight against porn.
Here they work together with ultra-republicans and even the catholic
church.
iFeminists are more independent, but they defend porn and the right to watch it and to play in it. They also fight for better working conditions of prostitutes and porn actresses. Some, like me, fight for lower
minimum ages in porn, I would prefer a 15 years of age minimum, some say 16.
But this isnt a point the US iFeminists have,
its more based in NL or DK, where we had
a 16 or 15 minimum age for porn before.
We just want our old european laws back.
Not the 18-laws, the US government has enforced on our governments.
Nothing more and nothing less.
So Feminists arent Feminists at all.
Some posts on this forum are really not friendly with us feminists. Please differentiate more, ok ?

That's the problem with "feminism". It isn't really about equality any more than a viewpoint that favors men is about equality. It's about elevating the female and the female viewpoint above the male one. And that isn't any better than the way things were for decades. The polarity is just reversed. I've never heard anyone say men are being degraded in porn. In spite of the fact that many porn fans call them meat puppets, stunt cocks and what have you. A man in a porn flick is nothing but an ass, a set of nuts and a dick. At least women are portrayed as human. There is an unsavory element about the way women are portrayed in some porn but the bottom line is that the whole thing is happening because men love women. Yes. Sometimes we're frustrated with them and angry with them. And sometimes our sexual fantasies about them are sick and twisted but we love then all the same.

Well, I think the people who want true equality are not as numerous as those who want either male superiority or female superiority. In truth, I'm not so sure the ideal equality can ever be the norm. As long as people have differences, people will always disagree and fight over who is right and who is wrong. And who gets more say so than the other.
The word feminist has too much negativity associated with it now to be of any value to anyone who really wants equality. And I'm not sure the goals of people who want equality can even be attained through politics now. No matter which way feminists go, as long as they're known as feminists, they will give that particular political party a bad rap. Which isn't to say either political party (In the US anyway) doesn't already have a bad rap. Just that neither of them needs any more and they both know it. They will not willingly openly associate themselves with people who have a history of extreme controversy. The Republican party is already bristling with radicals. The Democratic party is fighting for it's very existence. If they lose another election, they'll be largely irrelevant. People aren't very happy with either of them. I don't like the idea of where the extreme right wing would take feminism. They will simply use any cause they can use to achieve goals that are inconsistent with the spirit of liberty.
When the extreme left gets it's hands on a cause, they're often no better. Some of them may actually have good intentions but they often go too far. Gun control, for example. It's not necessarily a bad idea but some of the guys who are for it are not about keeping guns out of the hands of criminals. They're about banning guns altogether and gun control is just a first step. The foot in the door. Now with the anti-terrorism thing, the far right and the far left may have something in common with gun control and that's, frankly, frightening.
As far as porn goes, I'm not going to be a happy camper to see anyone doing anything anti-porn. Because I don't agree with that viewpoint and I tend not to get along with people who hold it. I find them, generally, overbearing and oppressive. I don't think they have any interest at all in helping people. I find their goal feels more like an effort to push their views on everyone else. Porn can be outrageous. It can be shocking. It can even piss you off. But nobody ever has to watch porn. But that's not enough for some people. It bothers them that anyone does watch it. They can't stand the thought that their neighbor might be watching porn. It doesn't really matter to them what kind of porn it is. Now I'll give you that these control freaks are of every political stripe you can imagine. But you've got to pick a side in politics. And hopefully, the side that will do the least damage to your way of life and your political and philosophical outlook.

@RP:
When I was at university the campus feminist group set up a bake sale in one of the main buildings one afternoon. Their point was to try to do a very real illustration of the "Wage gap" between men and women. So their thing was, for instance (I am pulling these numbers out of the air to make a point)a cook that would cost .90cents for a female would cost 1.00 dollars for a male.
It was a bizarre way to make their point, because sure, the wage gap is a problem but at the level of university students it is not a realistic problem to tackle. At the time I was working a minimum wage job, there was no wage gap in *my* world.
It did make me aware of the wage gap however, but they didn't seem to get to get that a young white male can be poor too.
It should be about equality.

I believe that porn was respected, at least more then it is now at some point. That time being the 70's era with the likes of deepthroat and behind the green wall that grossed millions at the box office as if it was some steven spelberg flick. I wasnt living during the time deepthroat came out but from what I have seen on television and thru documentrys. Linda Lovelace was somewhat of a Hollywood celebrity wasnt she? People considered her as an "actrss" more so then just some porn star. I think that the respect for pornography went down as soon as the quality did. When it was about the art of it and not just getting paid. Porn lost respect as soon as it the film makers started losing respect for the craft. A good storyline, creative plot, and the graceful actress got traded in for a few scenes of seeing how far we can push some sluts and sell it for a couple bucks type shit.

I would say RP and CQ's view of feminism seems stuck in the 70s and 80s, the mainstream of feminism has always advocated equality between the sexes, perhaps they didn't always follow through in their actions but the lesbian seperatists have always been a minority, a very vocal minority that some have used to discredit all feminists.
As Caroline says there are a fair number of modern (usually younger) feminists, in North America they are usually referred to as Third Wave, who are in favor of the possibilites of better made pornography. In English speaking countries Linda Williams book Hardcore has had a major influence on feminist ideas around pornography, Williams crazy idea was to actually watch pornography before judging it.

Simply put; it lost some credibility with a lot of people when it went from film to video. No plot and no acting = no credibility as an art.

I tend to agree BD, I don't think porn got a lot of respect during the features era, but it was reviewed occasionally by film critics in the more left-wing papers, something you are unlikely to see today. Although I heard there was an article about 'porn for women' in Oprah's magazine.
And when Harry Reems was charged for acting in Deep Throat you had Warren Beatty and Jack Nicholson publically supporting him and being photographed with him. I can't even imagine Brad Pitt or George Clooney doing the same thing for Jeff Mike, Rob Black or Max Hardcore today.

Porn is in itself a show business industry where sex-workers and even regular non-professionals indulge in performing different types of sexual fantasies.
I don't see why it is disrespected in the first place.

Mr. Randomprecision, you're making very interesting points about this topic. In my country we were under a dictatorship for 40 years, that banned sexuality in movies, press, etc and was very christian oriented. When democracy arrived, we FINALLY can see tits in a movie! So here sex = freedom, and I think that's the point, we got fresh (specially our fathers, I'm 29) when it was forbidden.
Here we got porn talk shows in national broadcasting with xplicit images (it's a late night), and our pornstars are mainstream celebrities, you can watch inties with them while you're eating. And don't talk us about editing movies for TV, NR-18s or that things... that is the Franco way!!!
IMMO you should be proud of your porn, specially of the 80's, when there was no guts and USA porn were king... they were bringing you millions of dollars of foreign revenues every year!
