Conservative feminists arent 100% conservative, they are still pro-abortion, they still defend the rights of the women on work ( equal payment, no sexual discrimination ). But they hate porn and fight against porn. Here they work together with ultra-republicans and even the catholic church. iFeminists are more independent, but they defend porn and the right to watch it and to play in it. They also fight for better working conditions of prostitutes and porn actresses. Some, like me, fight for lower minimum ages in porn, I would prefer a 15 years of age minimum, some say 16. But this isnt a point the US iFeminists have, its more based in NL or DK, where we had a 16 or 15 minimum age for porn before. We just want our old european laws back. Not the 18-laws, the US government has enforced on our governments. Nothing more and nothing less. So Feminists arent Feminists at all. Some posts on this forum are really not friendly with us feminists. Please differentiate more, ok ? And I'm not sure the goals of people who want equality can even be attained through politics now. No matter which way feminists go, as long as they're known as feminists, they will give that particular political party a bad rap. Which isn't to say either political party (In the US anyway) doesn't already have a bad rap. Just that neither of them needs any more and they both know it. They will not willingly openly associate themselves with people who have a history of extreme controversy. The Republican party is already bristling with radicals. The Democratic party is fighting for it's very existence. If they lose another election, they'll be largely irrelevant. People aren't very happy with either of them. I don't like the idea of where the extreme right wing would take feminism. They will simply use any cause they can use to achieve goals that are inconsistent with the spirit of liberty. When the extreme left gets it's hands on a cause, they're often no better. Some of them may actually have good intentions but they often go too far. Gun control, for example. It's not necessarily a bad idea but some of the guys who are for it are not about keeping guns out of the hands of criminals. They're about banning guns altogether and gun control is just a first step. The foot in the door. Now with the anti-terrorism thing, the far right and the far left may have something in common with gun control and that's, frankly, frightening. As far as porn goes, I'm not going to be a happy camper to see anyone doing anything anti-porn. Because I don't agree with that viewpoint and I tend not to get along with people who hold it. I find them, generally, overbearing and oppressive. I don't think they have any interest at all in helping people. I find their goal feels more like an effort to push their views on everyone else. Porn can be outrageous. It can be shocking. It can even piss you off. But nobody ever has to watch porn. But that's not enough for some people. It bothers them that anyone does watch it. They can't stand the thought that their neighbor might be watching porn. It doesn't really matter to them what kind of porn it is. Now I'll give you that these control freaks are of every political stripe you can imagine. But you've got to pick a side in politics. And hopefully, the side that will do the least damage to your way of life and your political and philosophical outlook. [Link] |

Their point was to try to do a very real illustration of the "Wage gap" between men and women. So their thing was, for instance (I am pulling these numbers out of the air to make a point)a cook that would cost .90cents for a female would cost 1.00 dollars for a male. It was a bizarre way to make their point, because sure, the wage gap is a problem but at the level of university students it is not a realistic problem to tackle. At the time I was working a minimum wage job, there was no wage gap in *my* world. It did make me aware of the wage gap however, but they didn't seem to get to get that a young white male can be poor too. It should be about equality. [Link] |
