In Japan, their porn industry is having a contest among the different studios. 16 companies are chipping in to a pot of 2.5b yen ($250,000) and will produce one movie as their entry, which is released in May.

Here's the kicker: the winner is picked based on SALES (so fuck you, downloaders) and customer reviews. It's all done through an Internet site.

Each studio makes a special movie as its specific entry into the competition, so they all put their best foot forward and try to do something unique. S1, the Vivid of Japan, did a 4 hour harem movie with 12 of its girls doing 3 and 4-on-1 scenes. Normally, an S1 movie stars one girl and she is in every scene, so for the studio to put 12 of its girls in one movie is way out of the ordinary. Now, let's put aside the opinions here about the mosaic in JAV and spare me any more racist comments about Japanese men and discuss the concept. Could we get the American studios to chip into a pot, put forward its best product, and leave it to the masses to BUY and review the title? Remember, unit sales are part of determining the winner.
