The IAFD is usually my starting point in looking for movies/performers. Even with the occasional minor error here and there, it's always been a great resource.

Having said that, lately I'm drawing blanks when searching movies. I've looked for recent volumes of Black Ass Candy, a few recent Kickass releases like Slut Fights. I've also watched Lisa Ann's filmography and there are no new entries though I know she's been shooting scenes the last few months and there's at least one DVD out. Those are just a few examples.

Is there just a really long lag time? Studios not sending the info?

There's just a lag time. IAFD is a collaboration of volunteers who do the data entry on their free time.

They should take their cue from the Gutenberg project. Have a person voluntarily enter the info for the title, but don't publish it until another person enters the same title. That way you can greately reduce the improper information. It would take work setting it up, but how easy it would be once you did.

Yeah, right...
We've only added 2,000+ headshots and have been making incredible amounts of corrections and additions (but I'm sure they're all girls, studs and movies you don't care about).
Most of this is invisible to the normal visitor.
Do you really notice when a scene-by-scene cast list or sex-act info (like facial, anal, DP etc.) are added to an existing title? Probably not.

Peter was a tremendous loss.
The biggest impact YOU see without Peter is that new titles are slower getting into the database.
Other than that, the IAFD is better than it has ever been!

Just the amount of Euro information and obscure performer's headshots alone that Walter Burns has added are staggering!

Jeff has succeeded in herding cats.
Jeff, myself, Walter Burns, Morbid Thoughts, Don, Jamie and Luke bust our asses on a daily basis. You have no idea.
Others help out and make contributions on a less frequent/informal basis.

You think something is missing and/or needs to be corrected, send us an e-mail or post about it here on ADT.
But, please, don't sit here taking misplaced potshots.
It's embarrassing... to you.

We're working on it. The plan is to be able to add more editors soon... Technical issues are pretty much standing in our way, since the administrative tools we need to run the site really weren't written with multiple-users in mind since everything was a two man show -- Peter and myself -- up until Peter's death. So there's a lot of infrastructure building going on, and it is still largely a spare time project, which has slowed the entries of new titles a bit.

But, as Bob pointed out, in other areas the site has grown tremedously -- people stepped up after our loss, and we'll be working them harder once the proper tools are in place.

Peter's death was a TREMENDOUS loss and we are all discovering how incredibly difficult it is to fill his shoes.

We appreciate your comments and take them to heart.

Bests,

My reply was more of a tribute to Peter rather than a slam against any of the other dedicated folks who work hard over there. I think we all miss him and wish he was still here.
Everybody makes mistakes and I sure as hell make my share of them. So, I don't criticize the booboos or omissions that are there and I use IAFD all the time and appreciate the resource.
It wasn't personal.

Amen to that. IAFD guys, allow me to thank you all.

Your site informs my porn-buying as does no other.

Kudos especially to your use of Den's reviews. They impart by far the most information in the fewest words.

Yeah, Bigbob's reply seemed harsh, even as he was admitting at the same time that new titles were being added slower. There's no need to get so defensive. I think most of us understand that people are working hard. The whole point of my starting this thread was not to set up a forum for potshots, etc. I just had an honest concern about the titles and was hoping to hear what's up. I'm sure I speak for many when I say that the IAFD is a site that is highly appreciated. It's natural to be concerned when you sense something different with something that's so familiar to you.

Bob and Jeff thanks for your explanations about the new title situation. Nice also to learn a bit about the inner workings of the IAFD. Jeff, best of luck with the technical issues that you face. It's interesting to hear about this and I think it's good that people appreciate the nuts and bolts of your efforts there. Thanks all!

Isn't Adult DVD Empire the best place for finding movies by title and actress? They don't have much in the way of bios' and only limited reviews, but their comprehensive lists of titles and performers is nothing short of amazing!
Their prices are sometimes a bit high, so I just look for titles and screen shots then shop elsewhere.

While Adult DVD Empire does have a large selection, I don't think they try to correlate different names that an actress may have worked under, nor do they tell you what the actress does in her scene.

Adult DVD Empire has a pretty decent site, actually. I'm impressed with what they've done.

However, they only cover stuff that they carry. So if its not in their store, you won't find it in her filmography.

They're working on collecting a decent scene info database.

They're structured more like SearchExtreme in that things are broken down into far more detail than I think anyone needs (which is why IAFD is more high level than that detailed -- and it's somewhat the burden of having to then backfill 53,000 titles ;-)

From where I sit, "Facial" tells me all I really need to know -- but they'll go deeper with "Internal - Mouth" vs. "External - Face"

And now a question -- do people use genre tags? Are they of use or interest?

And for those of you who read this far, here's a sneak peek at a prototype we're working on.

http://www.iafd.com/haircolor.asp

(Exciting! ;-)

Hair color? Love it,

And genre tags? I don't particularly use them much, she-male/transsexual genre is all encompassing, there is no tranny/POV or tranny/gonzo genre classification, or is there? Damned if I know anything.

Peter used to rely on things he saw and AVN to fill in the gaps.

At the moment we use a variety of sources, not limited to user reviews, AVN, vendor sites, distributor sites...

There isn't now, but it's a question of "I would like to click a link and get a list of all the tranny movies in the IAFD."

At the moment, that's not possible... but with genre tags it would be...

(This assumes the tags would bet filled. :)

As far as genre tags go, I find the more narrowly someone tries to define them the more useless they become.
If the person defining the genre doesn't see it the same way you do, your search comes back with nothing.

We could, perhaps, paint genres with fairly wide strictly defined and limited categories that can narrow, but not pinpoint, what you're looking for.

Take a BJ series for example.
Let's say there are a few scenes with Black as well as White performers.

Straight > Blowjob

But what if someone thinks even one Black & White scene qualifies as interracial?

Straight > Interracial > Blowjob

What if someone thinks facials are defineable?
How many facial scenes earn an entire movie a facial credit?

Straight > Interracial > Blowjob > Facial

Let's throw swallowing into the mix...

Straight > Interracial > Blowjob > Facial > Swallow

By the time we try to define and include every genre out there, it became useless.
Why?
Because, in my example, the one scene with a Black girl in our Blowjob series movie had the stud cum on her tits.
Which, I would suggest, is NOT what someone who searched for "Straight > Interracial > Blowjob > Facial > Swallow" was searching for or expected.

One thing I'd really like to see is that when filtering by year, the list is presented by release date instead of alphabetically.

I mourn Peter's loss -- in mere e-mails he proved himself to be extraordinarily humane -- but I applaud the INCREDIBLE efforts by all the remaining editors. That the IAFD even exists has always boggled my mind from day one, & helped make me think my job just might be somewhat worthwhile ...

Time lags, whatever. Best to you guys for all the work you've put in. It is the greatest semi-unsung contribution to the genre I can think of ....

I tought at first AIFD was an official website that every title was entered, but since i know its volounteer then i understand the problemes it may occur and all. When i search for Krystal Steal for exemple i found very few title that are from the recent year, actually a lot of the performer i search for don`t have many or any 2006 releases... so i was like ``does she did not do movie at this point of the year?`` but i understand now why they can`t be all on it

Keep in mind guys, the "most recent/latest" releases can OFTEN be found on many of the better online porn e-tailers or right here on ADT.

The IAFD is just about your only source of information about porn movies and performers before the "DVD era" kicked in. For that matter, once a DVD is no longer being stocked, we are often the only "proof" that it ever existed in the first place.

There are some good places to find the hard-to-find. IAFD is one of the best sites. I also use Adult-PornStar-Mall which is part of Excalibur Films, a sponsor of ADT and probably the best source for older, hard-to-find titles.
SearchExtreme is another pretty good site for information.

One of the things I really like about IAFD is the RAME Newsgroup, where you can access old threads about topics of interest.

I think it's a very good site.
But I'd to see used as a gathering place for everyone to offer as much information about as possible. I'd like to see a comment section for each
person, like at the imdb, where anyone can ask questions, add opinions, or
comment on each video. It
would certainly take some
clean up to get rid of comments that are out of line
but it would great to see the most information in one place.

Is there a reason why movie downloads on IAFD do not link to Adult DVD Empire? The site(s) they do link to are like double to price.

I could be wrong but according to their FAQ, IAFD gets an affiliate commission from products purchased via the site (movies or memberships from advertisers)

The bigger the price, the bigger the commission?

That said they don't constantly update links for the current prices so something might appear more expensive (or cheaper) than if you visit the actual retailer to verify for yourself.

Also depending on when the scene or DVD page was added to the database might determine the list of options.

Older submissions probably had fewer retailers at the time and I doubt they go back to update new retailers they've partnered with.

Some titles also share the same name and might accidentally link to a different scene or product so always best to double check.

Adult DVD Empire (Nowadays usually referred to as simply Adultempire) is linked for most movies.

But because they provide both DVDs and downloads, they are usually listed under the DVD section. See this movie for example (it was the first I clicked on - I went to IAFD, clicked on the most popular actress of today, Vina Sky, and then clicked on her first DVD alphabetically).

https://www.iafd.com/title.rme/title=alien+rhapsody/year=2020/alien-rhapsody.htm

If you go to the Download or VOD section, Adultempire isn't listed. But if you go to the DVD section, Adultempire is there. And if you click on it, you have the option of buying the DVD or downloading etc.

The second movie I clicked on was this one:

https://www.iafd.com/title.rme/title=anal+models+5/year=2019/anal-models-5.htm

And it has Adultempire listed in the Download section, but curiously not in the DVD section, but if you click on the link, both options are available.

Is it possible you were tripped up by the name Adultempire instead of Adult DVD Empire?

^ I stand corrected. Thanks.

It's just I was looking up a whole bunch of old scenes on IAFD yesterday, and the downloads didn't link to AdultEmpire. But then I went to the AdultEmpire site, and those scenes were there, and for like half the price.

We only link to sites we have an affiliate relationship with. All sites we link back to can be found here:

https://www.iafd.com/vendors.asp

We've had a relationship with ADE since we first brought on vendors; they are VendorID #2. (Excalibur, for you trivia buffs, was Vendor #1). ADE runs our branded streaming site. We love ADE. They're certainly listed.

I don't know why the VOD stuff is sporadically linked - as you might imagine, it's all automated, so I'd need to dig into the logs to see where things are breaking down.

That's not a consideration. Price listings are default sorted lowest-to-highest price; so you'll always see the best prices first.
We say that? We update pricing at 2 AM Eastern every night.

[NOTE: I see where we say the pricing isn't live - so if we get the prices at 2 AM but the price on their site changes at 8 AM, we would still show the earlier price until the next day when we'd update it.]

Also depending on when the scene or DVD page was added to the database might determine the list of options.

It's all pretty automated; so as long as there's a 1-to-1 correlation between older title and newer DVD, they'll auto link up; but if there's an old title and a new movie comes out with the same title, there's a chance for a mis-link, and then we rely on the community to give us the heads up.
100% true. There are currently 3,131,861 items in our vendor item database - the chances for mislinks is unfortunately high.

You could always pop into the advanced search page - https://www.iafd.com/advsearch.asp - and search those 3.1M items directly.

I'm sure that I have had my issues with IAFD over the years but none of them have ever made me think anything other than I thank God for IAFD. I wish there was a way to say that IAFD is the best at what it does but since there is nothing that is remotely close to IAFD than all I am left with is to say thank you to everyone involved with IAFD. ^ I'd like to weigh in and say that what pat said reflects my thoughts on IAFD too. It is a godsend for porn information and links to find just about anything you could want that is porn-related. I use other sites like Freeones and Indexxx too, but IAFD is always where I start. For information, no one else even comes close to IAFD.

Like pat, I'd like to go on record and say a heartfelt 'thanks' to the people behind IAFD. You guys deserve more recognition for the work you do.

My only complaints with IAFD is when I submit award info it's either ignored or will takes months to finally process (usually after more than 1 attempt)

Maybe someday aiwards.com can fill that void and add all nominee info too, not just winners if IAFD doesn't care enough to archive that award info some fans are interested in.

That and DVD releases I submit are unpredictable. Some will be approved quickly others will be stuck in the queue indefinitely. Guess it depends on the genre or studio and whichever staff member has an interest in them.

Circling back to the affiliate topic, I would have thought it might be a higher priority to add DVD releases. Potentially missing out on sales (even if not many, any sale I assume helps the site; monthly hosting costs aren't cheap unless they have some kind of historical grant though I doubt any foundation would want their financial support to be linked to porn...)

^My view on porn awards as a whole is that once AVN and XBiz were bought out by the owner of porn studios than any future awards were not to be taken as more than a marketing tool for those companies as they have a vested interest in promoting their properties above being an impartial arbiter of what is a better porn video/movie and therefore I don't mind if IAFD doesn't use so called awards but I also don't really care since an award or lack thereof won't affect my interest of a movie/video.

...and yes, all awards are marketing tools for the industry, with a systematic bias towards the companies that care to market themselves.

I can't even begin to imagine how many times I've used IAFD over the 15+ years.

I am a sports "stat geek" ... but I also like to collect porn star "stats". Female and male.
Basically an A-Z, year-by-year history of their performing career. IAFD is INVALUABLE because of this.

I rely heavily on IAFD, I've been using it ever since I joined ADT and without it I would have never even heard of AdultDVDMarketPlace where I buy a majority of my DVDs. It's always nice to be able to look up a performers credits after viewing a film or video to see what to buy next.
