This thread poses a question to those posters who don't work in the industry. If you worked in the biz as a director/producer, what kind of porn would you make? In the movie, The Pornographer, the main character walks into his regular porno shop, looks around at all the videos on the shelves, and becomes disappointed in the lack of anything new or interesting that he hasn't seen a hundred times before. I can certainly personally identify with that. When the guy complains to the store clerk about how bored he is with the monotony of porn, the clerk responds, "Well, make your own." So, the guys takes his suggestion. He does start to make his own and, therefore, becomes "The Pornographer." There's an old saying that goes, "If you want something done right, then you have to do it yourself." I have mostly found this adage to be true in my personal experience. I also think this is probably true for porn. It is clear that if I want to see the type of porn that I want to see, then the only way I'll get to see it is if I make it myself. But I probably won't actually do that. While I have long entertained the fantasy of making my own porn, when it gets right down to it, it's not something that I could see myself seriously pursuing. Not only does it take a big investment of money and time if you're new to the game, but there are a whole lot of other issues involved with it that just wouldn't make it realistically feasible. Still, it's nice to think about. Here are some of the things I would do if I were making my own porn: 1. I would combine the best elements of old classic porn with the best elements of new modern porn to make some really great porn. From what I've seen of porn from the 1970's and early 1980's, classic porn (or classic to me) was lacking in the technological video advances that we see in porn now, but the action was much more intimate and realistic. You didn't hear directors talking behind the camera, or see crazy position changes every five seconds. People were having what looked like real normal sex, and not just a bunch of acrobatics. In contrast, we now have HD video and all the other modern filmmaking amenitites in porn, as well as girls who are hot fire, but the sex itself leaves much to be desired. I would love to be able to combine the hot intimate action that was present in classic porn with the video technology and hot girls of today, and just make some almost perfect porn. Also, the women would still shave. 2. I would capitalize on overlooked, yet popular, extreme fetishes and niches. I would have absolutely no problem imitating the likes of Max Hardcore, or adding to the list of the other most extreme and controversial porno flicks made (e.g., Rough Sex, Forced Entry, Donkey Punch, etc.). There would be no walking on eggshells, or appeasing the people who don't like it. Anybody who doesn't like it would simply not have to watch it. 3. I remember reading an interview with Erik Everhard where he talked about how many of the guys making porn now were not "strokers" themselves before getting into porn. Since they didn't watch porn before getting into the industry, they don't know what appeals to porn viewers, which is why so much of it sucks. He was saying that since he was always into watching porn even before he got into the biz, being a "stroker" helped him to be able to make good porn, because he knows what other "strokers" want to see. I fully agree with this. If I were making porn, I would make the type of porn that I would want to see myself if I were the one at home watching it. I wouldn't just follow some old trite formula that everyone else is using. I would imagine myself in the place of the guy sitting at home watching my movie, and capture what he would probably want to see. Having been in the position of the guy watching the movie, I would know what he would like to see. And that's what I would film. 4. Although I would film IR, as well as non-IR, there would be absolutely no focus whatsoever on the issue of race in my porn. Girls would not be called "white trash" (a term which I hate as much any other slur), and there would be no retarded comments about "big black dicks." Conversely, black girls wouldn't be allowed to make "white boy" jokes or comments, and white guys wouldn't be allowed to make stupid comments about the girl being from a "ghetto." IR and non-IR would be treated with the same regard. In fact, I would forbid any mention whatsover regarding the differences in race. If it is standard procedure in porn that girls not be told who their costars will be before the scene (unless the guy is specifically on her No-List), then the same standard will apply for IR scenes. If the girl has a problem with it, then we'll cross that bridge when we get to it. If anybody else has a problem with it, then they don't have to watch it. 5. I would try not to blame online piracy for my lack of success. Instead, I would try to make my product so good that people would want to pay for it, and at a fair and reasonable price. I honestly believe that if a product is really good, people will still find it worthwhile to pay for it. If people aren't paying for it, then it's not necessarily because they're getting it for free, but maybe because they don't consider it worth their money. If that's the case, I would try to find ways to make it worth their money. These are just a few of the things I would do if I were making porn. There are more ideas. But I'll stop here for now. I could add here, but I won't comment on the hypothetical business side, because that's definitely not something I have any clue about. I could only say, how I'd potentially shoot if I were a director. *Being generally a contemporary gonzo watching guy, I'd probably stay within this field mostly, although I occasionally like features, I'd probably just end up trying to over-write it and forget about any fucking. So the gonzo genre it is. *Technically, I like sharp, clean images with warm realistic colours (not overly saturated). Oddly, Jules Jordan managed to get this pretty much perfect circa 2001, with what I'd assume is now primitive hardware. This look in HD is dynamite. The current Elegant Angel stuff looks gorgeous. *Action: I have no definite arse or tit fetish, so my fetish is a girl fetish. Therefore, no protracted lingering on one particular asset to the detriment of the rest of the girl. Mid-distance shots that show the majority of the girl(s) and the action would dominate, with a few, fairly short close-ups for detail. Also, flow would be integral. I would show position changes and insertions, opposed to rampant cutting and editing between positions. The spaces and movements between the constant pounding I find hot, and varies the rhythm in a realistic manner. *I've stated on a couple of other threads - I got a thing for oil-slicked skin. I think it looks amazing, and highlights curves and just generally looks sexy in an unexplainable primal way to me. So I'd bring that in by the shit-load. *No scene (except reverse gang-bangs, Erik Everhard stylee) to exceed 30 minutes. Concentration flitters away. *1 on 1s, 2 on 1s, group orgies, multi-ethnicities and nationalities within the same movie (not enough of this - I like the variety on screen)... all this to me would be great porn. As I've said before, my major fetish--and one overlooked by mainstream porn, to my mind--is Women Under Hypnosis. So my porn movies would have a lot of scenes with women being Hypnotized and seduced. All ages (over 18), all races, all hair colors and body types. No heavily tattooed men or women, and no nipple or genatalia piercings. Also, no belly piercings that dangle. Women over thirty would not be categorized exclusively as "cougars" or "MILFs" But would be given just as much consideration for roles in my movies as their 18y-30y co-stars. I would consider the feasibility of making my movies in states other than California. (Nevada is the one that comes immediately to mind, as does Texas and Florida--basically any state or community with a thriving strip club industry.) Should I run afoul of the law while making these movies, I would use my vast porn-fueled fortune to challenge and overturn the laws that make porn-moviemaking illegal in these states--thus MAKING PORN MORE LEGAL! If producers are savvy enough businessmen, I would think they would seek out a forum like this one tailored for porn lovers and pay attention to the major currents of opinion about their product. Since a lot of the makers are members here, our preferences are already getting noticed. And they surely pay attention to their bottom lines. If we don't like it, they don't sell it. A problem is that I have often bought material thinking it was what I wanted, ony to find that the decription was a hyped up lie. Again, this forum can do a lot to help avoid those mistakes. We can do our part by spreading the word to our fellow pornies about this forum wherein they can make their wishes known and get results. And no, I do not work for ADT. I am a recent discoverer of it however and, besides enjoying its give and take, I have been pondering its great potential for improving every aspect of a business that I have been customer of for more than half a century.

Hm, what would Ordell Pictures look like? This could be fun. Doubt it would ever work, though. 1) All-natural ingredients, period. Implants on a case by case basis but by and large, no. Tattoos are almost certainly out, unless real small or easily covered with makeup. Piercings to a minimal. Males will be minimally tattooed and not look like they just got out of Folsom. 2) I would borrow from the S1 model from Japan. Movies will feature 1 girl, the cover girl, who is in every scene. Build the movies and studio around individual stars. Only do one movie a month per girl, as S1 and the rest do, but pay her well so her paycheck for 2 days work is more than adequate. 3) Borrow multiple pages from the JAV producers. Note this pic of Sora getting boned. There's several take-aways. First, stop shooting scenes on couches. American porn constantly rents out mansions and then never uses the bedroom. They shoot on a couch with the actors hanging off in clearly uncomfortable positions, usually for extended RCG to show off the girl's body. This is stupid. Put the girls on a bed and let's have some traditional sexual positions, especially missionary, which seems to have disappeared in favor of painful RCG. Don't show off to the camera. The first order to the actors is to fuck. I'll get the shots. It will take a lot to convince me that people want to see EXTREMECLOSEUPS of genitalia. Ya know what? Genitals are ugly. A woman's lines and curves are beautiful. Because Japanese porn is censored, they have to pull back the camera compared to their American counterparts. Close-ups/penetration shots make up maybe 5-10 percent of the total scene. The rest is full body shots like in that pic. Also, notice the male presence is minimal. There are other shots where all you see is an arm or two and a little of his lower body. The JAV cameramen are excellent at minimizing the male talent and making the girl the whole show. I don't think I would recognize any male performer, with one exception. It's amazing how little emphasis there is on the guys. Finally, send the cameramen and directors to film school. American porn is so poorly shot and lit. Much of what I see, along with stories of 5 hours to film a scene, stem from outright incompetence. 4) On the subject of male performers… there's a studio for mature women, called Madonna. I don't think it has an actress under 30. Some are gorgeous, like Reiko Makihara (can you believe she's 46?), but some really should not be seen naked. Anyway, the common theme is older women pursuing young men. Yeah, we got all these MILF sites and MILF porn, and what do they do? They stick older actresses with older men. Boring. Let's have some Mrs. Robinson action. While Madonna has a disturbing amount of incest-themed movies, there's also a shitload of bored housewife fucks her son's friend, fucks the neighbor's kid, goes on vacation and has an affair, etc. Even more amusing are the teacher-themed ones where they fuck their students, in a classroom! What these movies have in common is the women are all older and the actors are young, in their early 20s. Well the same should be done here. So in addition to the studio for younger girls, I'd have a mature women's studio, like Madonna, for veterans/returners like Stephanie Swift, Kylie, (think Christy will return again? She's listed as "single" on her MySpace page) etc., and not pair them with a guy over 25. (Madonna doesn't stick to the once a month schedule. They do a lot more. Its top star, Chisato Shouda, did 85 movies last year. One Japanese paper dubbed her 'The actress most likely to make a pass at her on-screen son.') 5) Better promotion. JAV is extremely reliant on public appearances. Because girls make 1-2 movies a month, and the films take 1-2 days to film, that means she can done in 2 days. Also, 25% of Japan's population is in the Tokyo area, and they have the bullet trains. So there are tons of public appearances to promote (read: sell) movies. Take a look at this schedule for Akiho Yoshizawa. It's from a fan site from a guy who strikes me as a little too obsessed… anyway, that's her public appearance schedule for 2009. You see she's making up to 15 a month around Japan. In LA that's tougher. But I think with proper coordination, you can send a girl around Socal, LA, OC, IE and SD, and even to Vegas. These are all heavy tourist areas. The rules are, as I understand them, you can have your pic taken if you buy a movie but you gotta bring your own camera. So, after making their movie for the month, send the girls on the road. 2-3 hours in the day to sign autographs and after that she's on her own. Let her schedule strip club appearances that evening if she wants, that's her own time to make some extra bank. If anything, I'd encourage them to do it for promotional purposes. 6) As I understand it, movies make the bulk of their money when they come out. So, 3 months after the DVD has been on the market, release the scenes online. Buy 1 scene for $3. So if people say scene 3 in a particular movie is the one real good one, people can buy that and not feel compelled to buy the whole DVD. This low dollar model can work well when you get volume. Just look at iTunes. 7) Flaking and showing up fucked up will get you fired. Be professional or GTFO and go work for Jim Powers. A return to innocence. American porn pushes the nasty quotient and nothing else. Mainstream JAV promotes a lot of innocence themed stuff, especially Kawaii studio (Kawaii = Japanese word for 'cute'), where they don't have anyone over 20. No gay for pay. Girls who don't like girls won't be asked to do scenes and I'd even say no to girls looking to do lez scenes for easy money. The audience can tell when you're into it and when you aren’t. A return to sex. Porn today looks more like mauling. People here have bemoaned the loss of kissing, oral sex on the woman, eye contact and gentler caressing. There is a balance to be found. Femme Productions went too far to the other extreme and made movies boring as shit. S1's "Fluid Exchange" series and E-BODY's movies show passion and intensity are possible. Themes and gimmicks. A recent Yuma Asami video had her playing home service workers, like coming to someone's house to fix a broken fridge or something. She shows up at the door of some surprised dude and ends up having sex with him. Another had her prowling porn stores, chatting up fans looking at her movies, and having sex with them. Knock off the stereotypes and tell the girls to knock that shit off, too. I can tell a lot of black girls talk 'street,' while Asian and Latina girls play up accents. It's cheap. Knock it off. COMEDY! Christ, where are the laughs? Porn was capable of this. Ron Jeremy was great for self-depricating comedy. Let's have some laughs for once. Wow, I let this go for a while. I could go two ways with it. One way is that I'd do what Abby Winters is doing, except that I'd open it up for older women (Abby likes them in their 20s) and bustier. I love AW's stuff, but I like women who are a bit more voluptuous. (And before anyone says it, Chloe B. and Angie fit the bill, but they're the exceptions.) The other way would be to try a feature that's truly a story about sexual themes; i.e. something like an X-rated version of BOOGIE NIGHTS. Most porn features are either a real story that stops completely in order to get the sex scenes in, or just a series of sex scenes with some sort of connecting bits to hang them together. Both styles rarely work very well. Or maybe I'd try for a film version of one of Nancy Friday's fantasy collections, like Women On Top. Select a handful of stories and dramatize them. I'd also try for a better grade of porn comedy, or at least something with humor. Most porn "comedies" are the sort of thing I laughed at when I was 14. Or they're lame-ass parodies of popular movies or shows, but the parody is worthless--just fodder to skip over when you're watching a DVD.
I'm already an occasional pornographer and I try to do a lot of the things I'd like to see done regularly in my work. But... 1) I'd shoot everything on film (I actually prefer 16mm to 35mm) and would ensure it a theatrical release, or at least a few screenings. 2) I'd use scripts which are more than a means by which the film moves from one sex scene to another. 3) Since I'm really only interested in making features, I'd make them of reasonable length: i.e. 90-100 min on average (instead of 2 and a half to 3 hours as they usually are these days). There's no problem with a 100 minute film with 20-25 min of sex and 70-75 min of non-sex. Just look at Anthony Spinelli's THE DANCERS or Chuck Vincent's IN LOVE as perfect examples of this, or for recent films, Nic Andrews LOADED. 3) I'd hire actors who actually fit the roles they're playing, i.e. no 35 year old mothers with 25 year old daughters...And no "high school" students covered in tattoos. 4) I'd craft sex scenes which actually make sense in the narrative (refer to the above mentioned films for examples of how this can be done well). 5) I'd cast people who look like people. No hairless "muscle studs" or bleach blonde bimbos. 6) I'd shoot sex scenes that reflect how people actually fuck, not fake and emotionless bang sessions. That's all I can think of right now.
Here is what is on my list: 1) Focus on the use of quality lingerie (stockings, garters, corsets) 2) I probably would go for something between a feature film and gonzo. Shoot scenes with a related theme, fully scripted, but independent of each other. 3) I like the idea of extended scenarios with multiple sex scenes involving the same person. The idea would be to get something between Vince Voyeurs Gauntlet series and a feature. An example would be a girl having an affair or having sex with multiple guys followed by coming home to their boyfriend/husband. 4) Too many gonzo series start scenes with the girl doing a solo tease/undress/whatever. Usually the scene is really awkward. I would like to see scenes with more interaction at the start of the scene. Guys undressing the girl, more sensual foreplay, and use of the hands. This may be difficult to film but if it was done properly, scenes would be much better. 5) I like swallowing and internal cumshots but I usually don't like how most movies show them. Most movies tend towards freak show antics or overacting. I would rather see a girl give a solid blowjob and finish by swallowing the cumshot in stride. One good technique is to take the first shot on the tounge and then immediately deep throat for the rest of the cumshot. For internal cumshots, I would like scenes that show off the cream pie without ending with the girl trying to squirt it out. Something like having the girl take a gangbang, get dressed and then come home to start a scene with their husband with a dripping pussy or ass. I also would do more MFF scenes where the guy cums in one of the girls followed buy a solid cunnilingus session by the second girl.

My films would include the above concepts. I'd also have lots of multiple popshots to one girl's ass and having another girl felch it out. I'd also have condom popshots by guys that produce more than 2 drops and have another girl wring it out onto another girls face. But most importantly, I'd have the one and only Kylie Ireland be my sole contract girl. I'd start a series called, "Kylie Breaks them in!" Awesome idea for a thread realtip. 1. I would get Shyla Stylez and Hillary Scott to be contract girls for my company. My thinking here is that with them on board: huge fan base, options for different scenes; IR, gangbang, DP, girl-girl and both are very enthusiastic performers who I completely admire. 2. Would focus on plot-based films. I find these can really build upon a stars portfolio and also leaves more room for creativity. 3. No qualms with any male or female performers. I get tired sometimes with seeing the same names and faces in movies just on a slightly different premise. This way things can be mixed up more often. 4. I'd work on a lot of features based around the sort of Cluedo atmosphere. Big house, lots of different rich people (doctors, lawyers, businessmen, reverends, actresses, elderly billionaires etc.), lots of rooms to be able to be used (billiard room, library, study, master bedroom, kitchen, conservatory, garden) and an ongoing question of 'who-dunnit?' with flashbacks perhaps, affairs and servants fratenising with their masters going on. I think films like this open up a really cool world and could really be used to explore loads of different themes. 5. More outdoor adventure movies. I read on another thread a poster talking about a film where someone landed on the island and was then ravished by the native islanders. Although I wouldn't go down this route personally I was thinking more like films such as Hawaii, Private Mystery Island and some of the Marc Dorcel films I've seen where you really get to see a bit more happening on beaches, in woodlands, mountains etc. 6. Have directors collaborate on different scenes within a film. Have say Stormy do one, Joone the next, Andrew Blake and Paul Thomas all the rest. A great mixture of different styles would interest people I'd hope. Wow that was quite fun. I think pornographers really must get to live their fantasies and dreams!
I'd steal shamelessly from Andrew Blake. Of course, I'd go broke, because not only would I spend too much on production, but I'd only use women I like, and my tastes are obviously my own. As to the kind of porn I would make, it would be a mixture of vignettes and gonzo (not that much into features). I think a setup adds a lot to the psychology of a scene, and needn't cost all that much more to do. I also think clothing is a great prop that's sadly underutilized in porn, so my porn would have, well, not lot's, but some clothing in every movie. I'd try to keep from being predictable about it, though. Since I like women of all colors, my movies would include IR, but it wouldn't be a box to be checked.
what might really help is if I ran a moaning seminar for porners. (No not "bitching and moaning"! Though that's a skill I clearly possess.) Rather, what if someone played audio clips to show the contrast between modern moaning and some more enticing moaning techniques used in the past. let them hear how successful orgasm noises don't need to shove everything else aside and showboat, but can blend naturally into a more believable performance, the kind of crescendo a human being might really have, which would compel the viewer to get more emotionally invested in the performance. So the goal of the seminar is to have people stop throwing a non-stop bunch of identical moans at the camera the way that beads are tossed around in New Orleans, or like a coat of paint covering the entire audio track with a steady 35 minute orgasm that's the same from start to finish and which actaully slaps the viewer in the face and calls him an idiot. It's a cause to believe in and fight for. Probably couldn't get payed much in consultant fees from the porn community, so my entire foundation would have to be supported by a government grant.
If I were a pornographer… I would shoot movies that are admiring of women and their beauty and the enjoyment of them. I would study and adopt the techniques of the great pornographers, like Stagliano and Jordan I would prefer natural beauty – minimal tattoos, piercing, and implants. There would be no choking, face slapping, squirting, peeing, gratuitous cum eating, stepping on faces, or violence. A major exception to this is that there would be a lot of spanking, but only of women who got off on it. There would never be more men in a scene than women. There would often be more women in a scene then men. The men would do things to very much please the women, like ass and pussy eating. I would employ scenarios that would be fun. Unfortunately, I think it obviously takes very shrewd business types to be successful in an industry like porn. The kind of people who would make the best porn wouldn't necessarily be the type of people who would make the best business decisions to keep them in business long enough to get them noticed and make a name for themselves. Unfortunately, it doesn't matter how good the product is if nobody knows who you are. Most of the people who have been successful over the years were successful because they made good business decisions. And quality isn't necessarily a requirement for porn. It's always been too easy to sell anything with naked women in it to casual porn consumers. Anyway, I'd want to do something unusual like leg fetish with no stockings or foot focus. I don't imagine there would be a huge demand for the kind of stuff that would appeal to me personally and I have no money to sink into such a thing so I would get nowhere. I'd want to do it just to put the product out there. I'm not a business man. If I had the money to burn, I'd probably do it just because nobody else is really doing it. But then, that's why I don't have the money in the first place.
I'd like to take a shot at the "porn for women" market. I'd play off the most popular themes in women's romantic/erotic fiction, taking care to cast for chemistry whenever possible. A lot of times when I read the sex scenes written by my favorite authors, I can envision pornographic depictions of them It's relatively easy, considering they mirror a lot of the porn I already like. The problem is, I think the type of porn I'd like to make would be prohibitively expensive. First, I'd want top notch talent for every scene--men and women that can act and fuck well. Second, I'd like to have good sets, some of which are out of doors. And last, I'd have to market my product via unestablished means.
What a refreshing thread. With all the fake monotony of modern porn, it is reassuring to see that others feel the same way I do. Porn is an immature product that has changed radically over the last few decades, and there is hope for more change to cum. So my porn would have... 1) Realistic positions that the performers enjoy. Ordell raved about Japanese Adult Video (JAV), and I agree. Even with genitalia mosaiced out (the dumbest censoring ever), they manage to produce some of the hottest porn out there.
