It seems like robotic, mechanical sex is all the rage these days. I have been watching Erotica XXX 10 by New Sensations. I rented the disc because of Naomi, who has the body, hair, skin color, and facial expression to die for. But Mr. Pete fucks her like a mechanical bull with only one gear. Yeah, she 's into it and cums, but the scene lacks in sensuality, and the potential in the scene is lost. I'm just tired of the guys completely controlling the action, shoving their cocks down someone's throat and fucking them in an unrealistic fashion. There are too many scenes with gorgeous women that end up like this. I know this has been said before, but maybe if the message is repeated, someone will listen. You can be very nasty and sexual AND maintain a high degree of sensuality. Look no further than Buttman's or Leslie's earlier works. Everyone reveres these two, but what made their work so great has been sadly forgotten.
It's easy to look at early Buttman or Leslie and think, "Shit, if I had a video camera I could do that!" But back then, even the cheapest BetaSP camcorder you could get was still $20K+ once you mounted a lens on it, so there was no way to find out you were wrong.
Now, when you look at today's handicam porn it's still easy to think "Shit, if I had a video camera I could do that!", and for about $2,000 you can find out you're right.
I know how you feel. I'm relatively new to this forum, and my first impulse when I started scanning topics a few months ago was to post just such a rant. I mean look at the list of topics right here in the Porn Pool. There are people trolling for dirty anal scenes, gagging, speculums, you name it. What you have to do is let them have their kink, while you have yours. Acknowledge that there are talent that view such circus acts as pure performance and that some actually enjoy the idea of being really nasty. Then, seek out the product that you want to see. It's still out there. I've been watching it. I've seen some sensual scenes lately. Once you see a movie that contains the elements you like, tell everybody about it. The market is so huge right now, it's nearly impossible for a single movie to get any attention. Why do you think they all have such shocking names and cover art? When you find that rare gem, spread the word. Then more of us can buy it, and more movies like it will get produced. The only way to change the market is by BUYING. Withholding your dollars--boycotting--does no good in a multi-billion-dollar industry with an unlimited consumer base. Each boy that hits puberty is a potential porn buyer, and they'll buy whatever's marketed to them. Has not buying a certain type of porn gotten you anywhere? It hasn't me. So it stands to reason that the opposite must be true.
Thanks for taking the time to respond to my post. I guess I don't necessarily equate circus acts with being really nasty. Sometimes subtle suggestion instead of over-the-top visual stimulation can end up being much more perverse.Feel free to let me know some of your faves!I agree completely. I used to do reviews on this board a few years ago, but I stopped. First of all, I was really busy. Secondly, Steph sent me some DVD's to review, and I had a hard time writing reviews for them because IMO most of them were so poor. It's hard to be negative when people are nice enough to send you free things.
The amount of garbage out there is numbing. I just bought a piece of pure crap called "Mouth Meat 2" , complete with weird lighting and girls in cages. Leno could play the entire vid on TV with no censorship and it would be hilarious. My goal is zero purchases in 2006, and I think I can do it. Jim Powers should be making pizzas for a living.
Great response. That's usually what I think when people complain about how things are shot. Get out there, give it a go and then at least you have some sort of realistic reference point to respectfully criticize the work of others.
I don't think you have to know how to shoot porn to be a good critic. Just because I haven't spent time and money on producing a film doesn't mean that I don't have the ability to discern the difference between quality and garbage. Anyone with a keen sense and a good mind can do it. Perhaps I have touched a nerve here?
Fifteen years ago the sheer cost of the equipment helped maintain a certain level of craftsmenship. Now any fool can afford to pick up a camera – and plenty of fools do.
What I want to know is who's buying, and don't they feel (at least a little) insulted to have their favorite perversions treated so shabbily?

I am feeling cranky, so don't mind me. Maybe Dr. Evil should be writing this.
OK, but why did you say they are trolling if you want to acknowledge their right to do so?
But not to me, please. I don't trust anybody anyway.
To me, you are ALL trolling

The industry is geared to feed the never-ending supply of 18 year old newbies who've been trained by Hollywood to think that flash-bang is what counts. If you've been watching long enough to care about the details then you're not in the demographic.
Besides, I'm not at all certain that the majority of the current crop of male performers could keep a hardon if they had to be sensual instead of brutal.
But there's more than a little evidence to suggest that "the industry" has simply forgotten that there's a substantial market for videos that don't have street clothes piled in the corner, crew shadows crossing the scene, or an unestablished director's voice suddenly breaking in say, "Don't wipe the cum off your face"; and in the rush for easy money making videos to a relatively small number of people who don't care, has largely lost the ability to make videos that appeal to people want heat and craft, and won't settle for less.
Why just the other day I heard about a little company that already has excellent reputation for on-screen heat and chemistry, and is now moved to shooting on film and mastering in HD. They must be moving some pretty serious units to pay for that time on the Spirit.
You can have both but I prefer the craft thing, I saw a gonzo where the sound was really crapy because the camera near to the girl was giving the picture but the sound was recorded by a second far away one. I was completely OK with it, because everything else was good.
Or there was scene where the actors couldn't get the fingers of esch other and started to shoot without the director a bit shaky but very enthusiastic and it was OK for me.
The market is huge and how can someone show that his movie is good, it's nearly impossible. People look for something they know, I had a look at the top searches at www.searchextreme.com.
top bitch no. 3 is Paris Hilton top vidz no.1 is 1 Night in Paris
You mean, why did I use the term, "trolling?" Because that stuff is the lowest on my personal taste scale. People have a right to drag the bottom of the porn pool. To me, that type of product is the lower depth of adult entertainment, so when people go fishing for it here, I get this instant mental image of a big net scooping all the crud off the bottom of a murky river. However, I acknowledge that some people love the stuff that comes up from the bottom. It's got it's own charm to people capable of appreciating it. People suck the heads of crawfish, which they bring to the surface along with all manner of muck, slime and decay. They have a right to enjoy it.
Of course you are correct in that any reasonably intelligent individual can discern what is "good or bad". However my point is that until you have tried something there is a tendency to be more harsh and dare i say disrespectful in one's critique.
Maybe I should be more discriminating. I do thing that there is poorly made, cheap junk. But what astonishes me more is the endless supply of fantastically gorgeous young women performing an unbelievable variety of sex acts. Of course the sex isn't realistic. This is a fantasy industry. How often do 50 guys come on a girl's face? But some of the fantasies I dig and I'm amazed (and grateful) at the proportion that are well executed.
