Goal:
If embedding images from other website sources with the
[ img ] [ /img ]
command it would be helpful if an additional tag would allow you to shrink the origins to get them in line with the image policy.
It were not necessary to save, shrink it locally and load it afterwards to another source.

Anybody knows whether feasible or not?

One problem would be that by just telling the browser to render them smaller (easily done), the full picture would still have to be downloaded. A bitch for anyone still on dial-up.

There are still a fair number on dial-up, and I believe some still on web-TV. This is the main reason behind embed thumbnails, link to larger pictures.

If a thread gets busy (with responses) I may go into the thread many times. If there is a picture linked in the thread, you can be sure that I have clicked on the link and I have seen the picture. When I go into the thread later, I know what the picture is and I don't need to have it load every time I go in. Once was enough.

(I have a cable connection so load times is not the issue for me.)

if you post an image to imageshack they provide a link to a thumbnail as well.

For example
