I think there is no duty or tax, because magazines and books are educational and taxing them would be taxing learning. And you can learn quite a lot from some of the Europorn mags, believe me! I'm sending some mags from Olde England to New England and I don't want the buyer to get any nasty surprises. Many thanks for any feedback. Mark the item as a gift with a nominal value to give it a chance of avoiding the charges. I have to say that sending stuff from the UK is not cheap and magazines are quite heavy items to send.
