However since most of them are likely on Depo-Provera birth control which stops periods for 90 days at at time they can just take off (or do shoots that don't involve the vagina) the seven days that are built into the timing of the shots to allow for a period. Before Depo-Provera my understanding is that most porn chicks used natural sea sponges to absorb the blood during a scene (which was recommended to them by Sharon Mitchell at the now defunct AIM Medical where porn talent used to test for VD). I'm not saying there isn't someone out there getting the shot, but its common side effects include weight gain, low libido, and the fact that if it doesn't work for you it takes months to wear off. IUDs are common, the pill is common (including continuous use), and sponges are really fucking common...even girls on continuous birth control get spotting. The sea sponge is ideal, but girls often use makeup sponges. I have had girls cancel on me because of very intense periods/cramps/whathaveyou but for the most part, you show up to set, you put your sponge in, you warn your costar about it and you get to work. I've shot at minimum dozens of scenes where either me or my costar was on her period and using this method. Accidents happen. However, you can't show blood in most markets, so should there be unexpected blood, it's generally edited out. "What do you do about your period" is one of the top questions civilian women ask me when they meet me or find out what I do for a living. I tell them about sponges. I haven't had to deal with blood and sex in years because of that. [Link]

Click to expand Most of what I am saying here comes from the AIM video that before 2011 every porn chick was required to watch before her first VD test. Certainly any porn chick that doesn't want her baby's daddy to be one of her co-performers would use Depo-Provera over birth control pills because the former is more effective in real life situations (pills only work if you remember to take them on schedule, Depo-Provera involves one injection every 90 days which is just about fool-proof). Lilly, since you seem to contradict what Sharon Mitchell said on her video I would hope that these woman are taking their pills at the same time every day. That is very important with birth control pills for some reason, if a woman is even three hours late taking her pill the risk of pregnancy increases. That is not a good situation considering her male co-star could end up being her baby's daddy out of the deal (Alana Evans had that happen to her via Kurt Lockwood a few years back, unfortunately she had the baby killed (abortion) well before her due date). At least since 2008, when I got my first test, no one was "required" to watch the AIM videos (there were two, featuring Nina Hartley and Sharon Mitchell). They were available on the AIM website, but nobody sat anybody down and made them watch anything. Depo does not wear off in three months. You get another shot in three months, but it takes longer than that for it to actually wear off. There is no "seven days built into the timing of the shots" to allow for bleeding - you're confusing it with birth control pills. Most birth control pills have 7 days of placebos in your monthly supply, which induces a pseudo menstruation (withdrawal bleeding...done to make taking the pill seem more "natural" when they were developed in the 50s). You can skip the placebos and start the next month of pills, which prevents periods. Recently, the drug companies are marketing pill regimens that do not contain the placebo week. Depo is a high dose of progesterone that often, but not always, results in the cessation of menstruation. Depo is kind of an outdated method that is only used by something like 3 percent of American women. In general, the trend in the Western world has been away from high dose contraceptives toward lower dose contraceptives - time release things like Mirena or Norplant for example. Depo has a black box warning because it causes bone loss. You can't just say "this is a better birth control method because porn chicks won't remember to take a pill every day". No method of birth control is right for everyone. I know boy/girl performers who are on birth control pills, have IUDs, have implants, and who don't use any kind of hormonal contraceptives (ie, the "I don't do creampies" method). mharris, I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that the women in porn are aware of the risk of pregnancy and take the steps that they feel appropriate to prevent that. Nobody wants a porn baby, and abortions aren't exactly fun. Anyway, most women in porn bleed sometimes, and we definitely use sponges when that happens, and we definitely stop if there's blood, clean it up, keep going and don't include the blood in the final edit. Maybe I need to be more clear in my comments but I don't find it necessary to preface every comment I make regarding the biz with "I am only a fan/viewer but ..." I apologize if you felt I was attempting to mislead anyone here. In the comment I made that started it all, I said that likely porn chicks were using Depo-Provera. Likely can be equated to educated guess. For the record my sister has been on Depo-Provera pretty much since it came out unless she was trying for children and she doesn't have any problems with it (my sister is not in any sexual job, she is actually a criminal justice professor). Lily, I will also repeat Sharon Mitchell's warning about those wedge shaped make-up sponges. They tend to get stuck in the vagina and once stuck if not removed they will cause a yeast infection (at the very least) within a day. Sharon said that she had to purchase a specially made set of tongs to remove those sponges. I know you said a sea sponges is ideal so this warning doesn't apply to you but for the women that insist on using makeup wedges please, please, please reconsider your choice in period hygiene. I am not male talent but as a civilian I still don't want to eat out a chick with a raging yeast infection due to a stuck sponge (or lack of cleaning the genital area).
