even worse than finding the right way of indexing your stuff is to keep track of what your star has done. IAFD doesn´t know everything

| ipop Senior Member 1115 Posts 1/06 | As my DVD collection keeps growing, I've been wishing I had a list of all my DVD's, but never sem to have the time. I came up with an easy way to make a cool list. I started a spreadsheet in Excel that I will eventually enter all my movies in. Now, whenever I'm looking up movies at IAFD, I can just copy the title from a star's listing, then paste it on the spreadsheet, and it creates a hyperlink to the listing in IAFD. Next to that, I can copy/paste any of my favorite stars from the movie, and it will create a hyperlink showing the star's name and linking to their page at IAFD. I have a column for DVD or VHS, and I can even add a number column later. Even ssomebody with little experience in Excel could do this. I was looking up Teagan tonight, so then I created entries for every one of her movies that I knew I had (almost every damn one). I can just gradually add to it whenever I'm browsing, then sort it (alphabetize by Column A). If I create a double entry, it will be easy to spot after sorting it. I'm sure I'm not the first one to do it this way, but I thought I would share my idea. Edited by - ipop on Jul 28 2006 Edited by - ipop on Jul 28 2006 [Link] |

I wouldn't have any idea how to set it up for online use either. Nor do I have the motivation to make it pleasing to the eye. Since it is just for manipulating data for my own personal use, I don't mind if it is rather ugly. I'm not a wizard with either spreadsheets or databases. Have made and used them at work though. Spreadsheets were great for numbers manipulation, i.e. accounting. Learned that databases were much better for storing and sorting information. The bottom line is: since we are talking about personal use, whatever works and is liked is the way to go. :)
