Following Dogfart's recent acquisition by Gamma and site relaunch I thought it would be interesting to go through the major pornsites and their respective owners.
You definitely paint a worrisome future. ElegantAngel, NewSensations, and NaughtyAmerica are pale shadows of what they once were so I'm sure acquisition is in the near future for them. I can see Teamskeet being bought up too which sucks because at least they put out a wide variety of narrative content. So that just leaves Vixen, Kink, and Jules Jordan.
Vixen is safe, they're honestly their own beast entirely.
I think Jules will probably cash out when he can no longer perform.
Which just leaves Kink. Maybe they can hookup with Analvids/LegalPorno and try to build up their brand back to early 2010's level again.
The recent apparent takeover of BangBros by MG surprised me. Weren't they owned by WebGroup CZ before (Legalporno, Xvideos, etc.)? Maybe I've missed past instances, but seems unusual for a property to go from one of the big conglomerates to another.
Also crazy to consider Mindgeek is in charge of Pornhub too. I mean as a company it might be personally responsible for every single industry trends as a whole.

I guess one can only hope that Mindgeek leaves BangBros back catalogue untouched and that it isn't subjected to a purge similar to those that have occured at Brazzers and RealityKings.
^ all the risky stuff got removed, think "Pornstar Punishment" and anything vaguely rape-y. Plus lots of other stuff where no reason could be identified.
And Evil Angel, while their site is run by Gamma, still is owned by Stagliano, as far as I know. But it was always only a shell for the directors under the EA umbrella, so I don’t know what "owned by Stagliano" even means in that case.
Oh, and another thing: BlacksOnBlondes/DogFart until the aquisition had their photosets free, and they were 3000×2000 pixels in resolution. Now, with the Gamma cookie cutter, the image sets are not free anymore (that’s their decision), but even as a member, they are now the company-wide 192 hex 1280 pixels... Which is even more ridiculous when you think that for some of their titles they post the image galleries on sites such as adultdvdempire, where the image sets are available at 384 hex 5760 (or so... so they clearly have the higher res source images. I don’t know for which day (that may never come) they keep these image sets locked away in their vaults.
Goddamn PornstarPunishment was good. I managed to find most of the scenes for the my collection but I feel bad for everyone who missed the golden age of brazzers.
The evilangel situation is weird because it seems like EA is just a distribution site for different directors rather than a production company itself.

I've realized that my wording was rather vague and that a clarification is in order.
I was not referring to the removal of Pornstar Punishment-content. That occured back in 2012.
I was referring to the much more recent purging in 2020 when roughly 3000 scenes were unceremoniously removed from Brazzers. I haven't got estimates for the amount of scenes that were wiped from RealityKings around the same time, but judging by the complaints in this thread, it seems to have been an substantial quantity.
To be fair, a good amount of scenes have since been reinstated. Nevertheless, there is still plenty of material released prior to 2015 that is still missing from both of these networks.
^ I thought the consensus on the later purge was that
a) no clear pattern was visible b) many "older" scenes not meeting the video quality of today's standard were affected (but also newer) c) some have re-appeared, but also no clear pattern when, and when they reappeared, they usually were encoded in a lower bitrate

Yes, pretty much. There has been some speculation that some scenes where removed due to inadequate record keeping in accordance with 18 U.S. Code § 2257 but, to my knowledge, no one has presented any evidence to support this. While this is certainly a possible cause for removal, has Mindgeek or any of the studios under their umbrella made any official comment supporting such a hypothesis?I believe some scenes have even been brought back in lower resolutions (i.e. 1080p -> 720p). There has been further speculation that storage issues might be at the root of these sudden removals but, yet again, that might prove hard to ascertain.
How have the studios under Gamma fared in this regard?

This is industry consolidation, not necessarily monopolism. It's comparatively cheap to produce porn and there's never been more independent producers - they just aren't making things the way they traditionally were.
The only surprise to me was that Bang Bros got sold to Mind Geek. I could easily see both WGCZ (that site's prior owner) and Mind Geek exiting the traditional production business to simply become hosts for independents to promote and sell their material on. I'm not hugely familiar with the site, but WGCZ's LegalPorno seems to have already taken a few steps in that direction as they're a vendor for a bunch of other companies. It's obviously easier and cheaper to take a cut of revenue (from direct sales, ad or subscription revenue) from content produced by outsiders than it is to make your own. It made sense to own studios when the bulk of material on their tube sites either consisted of pirated professional content or homemade porn shot on low-resolution 10fps phone and web cams. That's not really the case anymore.
Even if what I predicted above doesn't happen, I find it hard to believe you're not going to see sites going dormant within these porn conglomerates. A lot of these companies are producing undistinguishable, interchangeable content. I mean, is there any difference between the porn you'll find on Reality Kings and Mofos? Are either of them substantially different than Brazzers' output? Do these brands continue to exist solely to give the illusion of choice? I guess that wouldn't be out of the norm for Mind Geek. They own a bunch of smaller tube sites that have no real point of differentiation from their main one. Gamma's content overlap isn't as bad but they also own so much and they're already thinning the herd. Burning Angel doesn't appear to have been updated since 2021.
Worst part as far as I'm concerned is that it corrals the talent. If the talent has an issue with one site, it can become an issue for all the sites under that umbrella. So basically, you agree with a couple parent companies, or go independent.
And in which category do BRCC and ExCoGi sites fall?

This monopolizing not only bottlenecks the money in or two places; it also places all the ideas through the same filter/gateway/portal do that everything starts to become homogenized.I think ExCoGi is a relatively small company, isn't it? But I know they have several sites. I just started following that company because they released a girl-girl site....the only GG site that is gonzo right now.
Just curious: what do you guys think is the biggest single website in terms of audience? I just did some number crunching. For Adult Time, their videos average about 18K views for the past 6 months, for Brazzers, 39K for the past 3 months. AT actually produces more scenes at about 1.9 scene per day, while Brazzers is about 1.6.
I suspect the largest network is Team Skeet, based on their sky high price and seemingly very high rate of production, as the scenes listed on their homepage is similar to AT and Brazzers, but those do not include their "premium" sites. Add those, and their production rate is probably twice as high, if not higher. Also, they don't post view numbers for their videos for non-subscribers (and I don't know if they do even for subscribers).

I just don't see how there could be a porn monopoly, at least in terms of production, in the modern world. Say Gamma and Mind Geek buy out every established producer and eventually, each other. What's stopping the people who created or performed for those companies from launching their own brand? What's stopping any random person from doing that? Like I said, porn isn't really expensive to produce. How many professional studios put out POV scenes where it seems like the only people on set are the on-camera talent? Even if the "major" company thing dies out, you've got so many independents producing material.

^ Professional porn (not amateur stuff) costs a lot more than you think. Lighting, hair, make-up, etc.
I admit my basis for professional porn over amateur; it's one of the reasons why I don't like OnlyFans. Too much of the stuff on there is produced poorly IMHO.
I like lighting where I can see the participants, different camera angles (a camera locked into one place is a turn-off for me), and the girls made up to look their best. All things, that, to me, are missing in amateur porn.
Everybody's got their likes and dislikes. I dislike amateur porn.
