If somebody took off my shirt they'd see a hodge-podge of various scars by everything from cigarette butts to knives to shrapnel (all this crap and I'm still a bit scared of getting a tattoo...go figure) Then I watch porn and I can't help but wonder...HOW!??!?! I'm not saying I've led an overly 'careful' life, but think about it...most actors/actresses can work with what I just described above; but in porn, you see EVERYTHING. The thought of that much responsibility in and of itself beggars my own belief. That has to take a toll, but it's not really something I ever hear or read about. I dated somebody in the industry awhile back and she was PERFECT (as one might expect), but looking at an X-Ray of her literally broke my heart (her childhood was apparently 'not fun'). And with all that, somehow she looked completely flawless. It always seemed like a deeper metaphor to me, that somebody can appear flawless and be so largely broken inside. But I digress. I guess my question is just plain how? I sometimes still have nightmares that include the fear of LOSING an arm or leg or eye...but how do people in the industry deal with the fear of just getting scratched or cut or burned when so much of their livelihood is tied up in their appearance, especially in an occupation where, like I said, all you really get to hide is your bones? She said she was going to be out of work until it healed because most directors aren't too keen on girls having nasty cuts and bruises visible during filming. HD filming only amplifies these concerns. And even though Madison Ivy has been teasing a return to porn on twitter, I do wonder if she's really going to make that comeback. | TheRealBamboonga Member 18 Posts 3/17 | Posted - Mar 22 2017 : 5:27AM Oh and yes, you're right on the money...I wasn't really thinking of workplace injuries, per-se, but more of the 'everyday' things that can happen to anybody (like auto wrecks). A slip in the shower, falling down a flight of stairs, crossing the street at the wrong time...hell, even just COOKING. You could burn yourself, you could drop a pot of boiling water, cut yourself slicing vegetables. And since they're usually (always?) independent contractors, even injuries that occurred in the line of duty (on the job?) would be difficult to navigate. And then on the flip side, overthinking and could very well keep them from living their lives. I dunno, maybe I'm overthinking this...it's just something I always wondered about - is it a stressful balancing act or something they don't really think about very often? Somewhere in between?Ironically, a career change WAS in the stars (The Army retired me when I was 35 after I was in a blast in Kandahar 3 years ago). As for the worrying, it's still there, but I was lucky - when I got wounded they made sure I'd have enough to live on. The actors and actresses I'm thinking about...they could lose their primary source of livelihood in an instant and who'd be there to catch them when they fall? It seems like they'd just slip into obscurity and fade away. That thought is disturbing...to me, anyway. So yeah, I guess my question is basically - what impact (if any) does this have on their lives in general? On how they view life or how they live it? [Link] |
