Reading some responses to this thread make me realize one's performance is all related to that particlar porn star's chemistry w/ her partner(s). But isn't this true for everything in life? What about the company and director she's shooting the scene for? Would a girl's performance in a Jules Jordan or John Leslie movie be the same as her performance in a Paul Thomas or BRAZZERS movie? I think what the director wants from a girl makes a big difference.
I wonder how much of this is about our expectations. Considering how most porn is shot/directed I'm amazed that the women can get into it at all. How well do the male/female performers know each other before being in a scene? Is there chemistry? What's the director doing? How does he/she handle performers? I've found myself gravitating toward productions where scenes are allowed to develop organically without a lot of cuts and the performers are allowed to just focus on each other. Nica Noell's work for Sweet Sinner is a good example of a director who lets her performers relate to each other and develop some passion. That said, I wonder why women who really don't seem to like what they're doing stay in the biz? Is the money that good?

Spot on, Draxx - it makes a huge difference. Across the board, I know that there'll be a gulf between how one performer appears for one director/studio to another. Even full-on performers like Julie Night or Belladonna will appear tamer, as is the case in early work for Sin City and Hustler (respectively), so the rule for hunting out scenes is usually based on specific studios or directors as that plays a big part. It's how much the performer gives, and not their mileage which counts. It's why studios like Red Light District can get consistantly frenzied performances from total newbies. The girl's noises during scenes are fairly important. I can see why Gauge has been mentioned here, as she's a fairly quiet performer. Having said, she does seem to put energy (and a lot of spit!) into her scenes, so I wouldn't include her on this topic. I'd probably excuse Lucy Thai for the same reasons. And Taylor Rain might sound like a stuck record during her scenes, but there's physical energy there at least. Although chemistry is important, it's really more a game of chance there. If porn isn't shot in one take, and most girls haven't picked the cocks they're paired up with, then it's a tall order to expect the performers to be both professional and cater to the cameras (sexual positions geared towards camera-angles aren't likely to feel natural) and be into the actual sex itself. +1. This explains the "why", even though I do agree that many of those named don't give hot sexual performances. Most female performers are forced to be submissive in scenes--especially, if she's working with two or more guys. Add on the lack of chemistry between so many performers, and you have porn with very little enthusiasm by the women. The exception seems to be Amateur Porn, or Pro-Am Porn, because the women aren't over-directed and forced to be unrealistic and submissive.

This thread is easy to insult a performer so I will not drop names, but the reason some people do not like the performances is rather simple. When you see a girl with a monotone, flat expression, as if in a daze from beginning to end of her scene it shows. When you see a girl never smile in her scene it shows. When you see a girl look bored on camera and lethargic, it shows. And the topper, when you see a girl grimace after getting a facial, that is the icing on the cake. Not everyone is fit for performing in front of a camera and I can't say I blame them. Would you like it if a director is barking out instructions to you? A lot of people are unhappy in their work and want to get out of their professions. It is nothing new.
