I double checked and the scene I described was in World Sex Tour 2, so it sounds like I need to check out WST1 and you need to check out WST2! The scene I am speaking of involves two ladies named as Raphaella and Mylene and the men are not named. Although I like the idea of posting a movie I like in a forum and the manufacturer starts putting it on DVD, I can hardly believe that Patrick Collins saw 5 people expressing their interest on the board and thought "Oh well, if there's so much interest for this film, we'll change our release schedule for this year." :-o

My guess would be that for a company to change their schedule they have to have received hundreds of letters and emails.

five people posting on a message board generally stands for a few hundred. the porn market is fairly small and i don't think studios get a lot of feedback from consumers (so many layers of distribution in between.)

all i know is that i sent the person i deal with at elegant angel (who's a very cool woman btw) a link to this thread. she was psyched to see the interest in the series and said they would rework their schedule to fit it in.

there's a lot of guess work in creating a dvd release schedule. it's partly based on what sells on vhs, but dvd is a new market - and dvd sales don't always correspond to vhs sales. so think about what little data they have to go on.

I didn't think the market was so small. I relied on some numbers I got to know from some "documentaries" on TV. It was said that the industry made billions of dollars every year and that video stores and video rental stores made most of their income with porn vids. Also porn producers tend to use new features of the media much earlier and better than mainstream companies, e.g. multiple angles, interactive movies and things like that. All this made the impression on me that the porn market was bigger than most people would think and I could imagine.

On the other hand you and the woman from Elegant Angel certainly know what they're talking about. I just couldn't imagine so few people having an impact on a big company. But I'm glad to see that's the case and that this forum is effective in communication between companies and customers. I wish all companies would read this forum and start posting.

In the "Golden Age", before the home VCR changed viewing habits, there were far fewer titles going into the XXX movie theater circuit. Some of those titles did sell in the six digit territory of tickets. (Of course most of this money stayed back at the then heavily mafia controlled XXX theater distribution level.)

What you have today are vast numbers of porn titles none of which sell all that many copies.

When mainstream journalists write about the money in the porn world, they usually want to make it seem huge, whether they are anti, or neutral to accepting. They usually conflate tape rentals and sales with internet site revenues, dirty magazines, and phone sex, often as well with softcore cable and satellite fare, to come up with large numbers.

Or so it seems to me.

That is, one would think that as knowledge spreads, the better stuff will sell more copies, and the less good stuff fewer, causing perhaps fewer titles to be sold. But more money to be made by the really successful.

If that happens, one would expect the same thing to happen with talent. Some stars making more money, but somewhat fewer starlets overall.
