I recently purchased a new PC and set under IE my desired homepage under "properties" but for some reason, after a couple of days it goes back to another screwy homepage default setting. Does anyone know what's going on? Thanks.

I suspect you've been hijacked by adware or spyware of one sort or another. Download two software utility packages: Ad-aware and SpyBot Search & Destroy (both offer free versions which is all you will need and can be found at http://www.tucows.com/ [Windows] [Internet]). Install them both, read their help & instruction files, and then run them.

Once you have run both of them one time, getting rid of all the gunk they find, cycle your computer off and on again and run both programs again before you run anything else, again, allowing them to do their thing.

Finally, run the immunize and lock procedures in SpyBot.

Next, right-click on the IE icon on your desktop, set the homepage you wish, close out and all should be okay.

I run ad-aware and spybot weekly.

You might want to have a look at Agnitum's Tauscan, too, for protection against trojans/backdoors (free trial available, $30 to purchase -- & worth it):

Agnitum Tauscan

I told a guy once "I'm putting something in that finds Trojans and backdoors", and in total straight-faced mock-seriousness he said: "Are you coming on to me?"

It was hilarious
