if microsoft can put out a product that doesnt get involved with exclusivity (i.e. apples .m4a format), then ipod could be in trouble.

Lost count of how many "iPod killers" were announced over the years...

I don't care about iPods at all actually, except it's a nice moneymaker for Apple, and I like their computers and software, the iPod success is good for the company.

you know i have an ipod but i would LOVE for some company to come out with a device with just a few tiny changes from the ipod which apple seems to not want to do no matter what.

i really hope this is it!

If making an iPod killer was easy, Creative, Samsung, Sony, etc. would have done so already.

iPod is here now.
It works.
It has the best user interface by far, IMHO.
It's even somehow managed to become somewhat trendy.

This isn't an area where MS can easily wedge itself into by wielding its OS monopoly.

When mobile phones become "good enough" music players, they may well kill the iPod.

There are a lot of useable MP3 players, with different levels of execution in interface. But Apple has managed to be the status symbol, in spite of questionable drives. But in the smaller Nano sized players I think Apple fails.
The problem here is that MS is trying to offer services and apparently that isn't going so smoothly. Part of this problem is with the studios, who want a competitor to Apple so they can play each against the other, but they don't want to pay the price. Life isn't that easy though, idiots.
The dumping on of features with questionable value over a simple but usable interface seems to be an in-house issue with MS. Yet another reason to hire consultants.

Has wireless capability been a big seller of Nikon digital camera? I don't really think so. Granted teens are flighty, but that is not a must have. And I don't see Microsoft having a nice implementation.
As for the rest, the Microsoft attempt to force the blue screen of death on other devices has been thankfully unsuccessful. I mean let us make sure our core products work first (and work well).

I've had my iPod for awhile now and fairly happy with it, my PDA running WM 5.0 on the other hand rarely can go 24 hrs without a reset.
