I read on the DP website that "they currently maintain more than 40% of the adult DVD market". That's a really huge percentage. And given the fact that they already have a big library of material shot in HD waiting to be released on Blu-Ray I would guess DP's slice of the market will increase in the future. This number also shows that the people on the ADT-forum are by no means representative for the overall porn audience.

The 40% claim strikes me as ludicrous on its face.

Thats about as accurate as their press release claiming scream was the number one selling and renting title in the country....it wasnt even #1 adult title in the country at the time is was 25 NEVER believe anything you read in the adult press unless of course its on mikesouth.com
definitely not true. although i really like Digital Playground as a company. they market class. yes, it's great porn but anytime the thought of that company comes to mind, you think about how hot the girls are.. how slick the packaging is.... just everything you see about that company is good. but i would think Zero Tolerance has a much larger market around the world. and that's probably not 40% of the market. i don't know when they started doing it, but they were smart enough to put Spanish language tracks on their DVDs. with all the Spanish speaking countries in the world, that's alot of reach considering the Latino population of this planet.
Here's the exact quote: Digital Playground is the world leader in adult filmmaking and interactive formats boasting the largest HD library available. Since 1993, Digital Playground has earned over 200 awards and they currently maintain more than 40% of the adult DVD market. That's a pretty huge percentage, if it's true, and an absolutely remarkable achievement from a business standpoint. Anyone at DP care to back it up with some hard facts and figures? This is a given...there are scores of occasional porn buyers who don't frequent sites like ADT, but more often than not will gravitate towards (and buy...yes, actually plunk down money for and BUY, rather than download it off of some filesharing site) something 'classy' like the output of DP, Wicked, Vivid, Adam & Eve etc. rather than the latest volume of 'Cumshitters' or 'Dirt Pipe Milkshakes'.
Digital Playground is a highly respected and very successful company, however, claiming "40% of the DVD market" is right up there with claiming weapons of mass destruction in Iraq.
Well, it's not the usual "we're one of the leading companies ..."-claim that you can find on every website. How can they claim 40% if it isn't at least approximately correct? I'm inclined to believe it. DVDs like PIRATES and ISLAND FEVER sell far beyond usual porn releases.
Hmm, I doubt, that they even have 40% market share in porn feature movies. I think WICKED is still ahead, at least in Europe. The only article I bought from Vivid in 2007, was their nice wall calendar. Digital Playground is a great company, in my opinion, they havent reached the WICKED quality yet, but they try. ( And isnt a women leading Digital Playground ? )
Considering how much the old Vivid sucks, I happily welcome Digital Playground "taking over" the market. At least, they have a certain respect for their fans by putting out quality product. I think Vivid would still hold the number one spot, but their original movies generally suck in the way they look (the girls are hot) compared to Teen America and other series put out by Vivid. Also, the compilations are repetitive and misleading compared to the ones put out by New Sensations (is that a Digital Playground company?).
No, New Sensation isn't a Digital Playground company. I agree with you that the New Sensations comps are well done. You can never go wrong with the "I love ..."-comps. Vivid comps are repetitive, misleading and with low image quality. I never understood why Vivid cranks out these cheap comps. They definitely undermine Vivid's image as supplier of classy porn. DP hasn't put out any comps yet.
I found another claim on the DP website: "Since the Company's inception in 1993, Digital Playground has earned over 200 awards and currently garners more than 80% of HD sales within the adult market."
80% of all statistics are made up. That is quite possibly the single most ridiculous statement I've ever heard anyone make since Pat Robertson leg press claim.
This one could actually be true (but as Steph has pointed out, there are no independent figures by which to verify these claims). Very few companies have actually put out true HD products (either Blu-Ray or HD-DVD).
Ha, ha. This reminds me of a story Ive read about the old stalinist dictator Enver Hoxha, from the "Socialist Peoples Republic of Albania". Because the poll results in North Korea were 100%, and Enver wanted to be the greatest communist on earth, he ordered that he will have 101,2%. At first he wanted 120%, but he feared, that this will look a little too manipulated. So he was satisfied with moderate 101,2%. Nobody of his ministers was brave enough to explain to him, that this was impossible. Because he arrested every minister for 30 years, who only questioned him a little. If he had a good day. Thats the truth behind statistics........ Ive read a statistic on a german porn site, that every third customer is a women. Maybe in a cosmetic store, but not in a sex shop. I know quite a lot of dealers there and they doubt, that 3% of them are women. Only if they include the buyers of FEMALE LINGERIE, this 1/3 CAN be possible. But this has nothing to do with porn, or ?
