After filling the cart with 9 tapes, I added two DVDs for a good measure, but when I tried to check out, I was informed: "Sorry, we no longer sell VHS movies outside the US." There are only two possible "reasons" behind this idiocy that cuts off and insults a good portion of their customers. The first: the NTSC format. But, since even someone living in a fishbowl so dark that s/he wouldn't know of EU or the euro would know that 99% of European video recorders manufactured within the last 10 years play NTSC and every TV less old than 20 years shows it, that "reason" is automatically rendered invalid. That leaves only the other imaginable reason - racism and xenophobia. That wouldn't really surprise me, especially since I've just read a posting whose author revealed that once they banned all IP ranges that didn't come from the land between Canada and Mexico, but perhaps they should simply announce it on their page. Post a welcome note like "Gawd bla-yas us an' to ha-yal wit' them others! Now giddawta hyahr, y'all dirty fur'ners!" [Link] |

This is under a licensing agreement with most of the major production companies. Most of the major U.S.-based production companies sell exclusive distribution rights in foriegn markets to other companies. These companies also do their own mastering, duplication and distribution and have teh exclusive right to do so within their respective territories. I suspect that these foriegn companies started complaining to the studios about Excalibur shipping VHS into their areas . Why would they complain about this? They must be racist bastards and hate Americans. That's the only possible explanation. |

Anyhow, could you "buddy up" with someone in the US to buy these and ship them to you - or could that present some possible customs problems for the shipper? |
