I'm hoping that the majority of movies being made have some semblance of a story behind the action. I mean, for so so long porn has been nothing more than "ok, this is Jennie and she's 22 years old and she's about to be fucked by 3 guys....ok...ACTION". And then the fun ensues. but it seems to me that the girls usually have the same look on their face as if to say "where's my money?"

What happened to straight one-on-one porn that has somewhat of a story to it? A prime example of what I consider quality porn? The Barely Legal series. They are short clips that set up a scene and make it so much hotter...to me. I like some of the Private stuff, but even that turns into a huge gang-bang, depending on what title you pick up.

I'm certainly not looking for couples porn, I want dirty, nasty cream-pie filling, facial splattering, huge dick stretching pussies etc etc. Is it too much to ask for some sort of set up?

Also, stop with the tattoos! And STOP with the fake boobs. Use what you were born with. Everyone is beautiful, in their own way. This is another reason I like the Barely Legal and Private series as they're almost always all natural. But there's certainly room for more.

If I had the budget and the talent, I'd start my own series and I honestly think they would be a hit. AND they would be different than what we have now.

Any companies that want to give me a try, just email me! But I won't hold my breath. lol

I don't think gonzo will ever go out of style but for a die hard raincoater it's not easy finding good movies these days. I mean I miss the old days like the mid 90's when guys like Jim Powers, Rob Black and Thomas Zupko were not afraid to push the envelope. Now all 3 directors are making PC movies. I'm sorry to see this. The only loyal director in my opinion would be Max Hardcore making the same kind of movies like 15 years ago, even more extreme ones. I'm not saying that's always a good thing but most of the time it is.

Well....I don't know about most people but I feel that gonzo is pretty much porn in it's most natural state. When I sit down to watch porn, I'm really only thinking about one thing - sex. There doesn't need to be any elaborate story behind why two (or more) people are having sex. When I wish to be entertained or engaged intellectually, I have plenty of material more suitable for that purpose than porn.

I have, at times, enjoyed porn with a story but usually, it simply annoys me and gets in the way of the main reason I'm watching in the first place. And let's face it, most porn talent aren't exactly the best actors in the world anyway. Some of them can't even convince you that they're enjoying themselves even if they actually are. I'd really hate to see most of these guys trying to be really serious in a convincing sort of way.

Having said all of that, I suppose there is a market for plot based porn but I'd really hate to see gonzo go away completely because 90% of the time, when I go to watch porn, gonzo is what I'm in the mood for. I want to see people fuck. That's what I paid for and is really all I'm interested in seeing. I don't care how they met, where they came from, how long they've known each other or anything else. Just put them together and let them get their freak on so I can get off.

See, that seems boring to me. I'm not looking for Shakespeare, but knowing that this guy is in a hotel and the maid comes in and sees him sleeping naked with his dick sticking straight up, then the sex begins. It gives it a place, it gives it a purpose.

Otherwise, it's just "this chick is fucking these two guys and a guy is videotaping them"....yawn.

The set-up, the tease...it all adds to the payoff. I found this out actually when I used to subscribe to the satellite channel TEN (The Erotic Network). They were hardcore movies shown on it. When you watched a movie, you couldn't fast-forward it. You HAD to watch the whole movie. And the thing is, I found myself getting much more worked up. It was the tease...the foreplay almost.

I guess this is coming from someone that enjoys porn instead of so many guys that "use" porn. Hard to explain I suppose.

I agree with you Nudist. Sex is more engaging when there is a context. The setups give a dimension to the girls that is missing when it's just "get naked on the sofa and fuck" within the first sixty seconds.

Well in a gonzo movie i don`t need a story, story in porn always annoyed me as most of the time they take time over the porn...but its just personal opinion

Features will never disappear, gonzo will never disappear.
What you will see more of is people experienting with a middle ground, the hard driving sex of gonzo and some plot or vingette action. Profitable niches will be sought.

Gonzo is cheaper. No time needed for shooting a scene for dialogue. No time for memorizing lines. Each location is utilized in a sex scene.

Well, again, I refer everyone's attention to exhibit A. The Barely Legal series. These videos have little vignettes showing small, contained stories...with actually very little acting. Yet just enough to set the scene up, and the sex is usually very hard and driving like a gonzo video. Private features are the same way somewhat.

I personally am not really into Barely Legal girls either, but I watch them because they're generally produced the way I prefer. Now, if only we could get some like this series yet featuring women that actually act their age (instead of a 30 year old pretending that's she a 18 year old fresh out of high-school).

Again, I don't watch porn just to get off. If that's all I wanted to do, then yeah, I suppose gonzo is the way to go because you just fast forward to the shot you want, and then jack off and go on with your day. This is when porn is just being "used" and you pretty much discard it like you would a paper towel. But I watch a porn movie like I would watch a regular movie. I don't fast forward on a regular movie to get to the cool parts on those either. I like everything to unfold in a real manner. I'd like to think the women in a scene are actually doing that scene and not just a girl that needs the cash and is fucking 3 guys while some yahoo videotapes it. I mean, I KNOW the girl is basically doing it for the money, but how about a little suspension of disbelief.

Vignettes are cool, but I'm thinking it's a compromise in some cases and I rather see less cutting and more BTS than some silly story that doesn't do much else than amuse me some. Features I don't like at all though.

When I'm watching an adult movie I want to see people having sex. I'm not interested in stories. If a want to see a good movie there are enough mainstream movies with good stories.

Oh well, guess it's too hard to explain what I mean. Sounds like you watch porno to "get it over with". Again, this is the difference from someone that likes porno as a whole and someone that just uses it to jack off.

But hey, good times right?

I think what you mean is giving a scene context/a purpose?

It seems like gonzo has become a slave to its own principles. It started out displaying the personalities of performers and letting the 'anything can happen' possibility roam free.

Now you'll see a title like AssToMouth 6. Geez, I wonder what this title will contain. Possibly dicks coming out of asses and into the mouth's of either the one whom posesses the dirty ass or a more than willing co-star....aaaannnd star wipe.

But then again, thats what the customers are buying and that is what most of these producers are here for; making a buck.

So there is porn outthere for you, you just have to search out for it, possibly even producing it yourself.

I suggest

Shane's World Guide to Get more Pussy, Nerdz, Blazed and Confused(the last 2 are a bit goofy but they feature situational sex)
Service Animals(Anything Joey does is vignette style really, heavy in interracial and hardcore so Im not sure this is what you're looking for)

Directors:

Jules Jordan(very hardcore, and usually runs lengthy teases with girls being beautifully done up, Tunnel Vision or Flesh Hunter)
Justin Slayer(anything from him, really personable porn. show's convo's with the girls, really free sex. Not much boundaries here, Big Booty White Girls, Just Fuckin)

Others:

Anything from RobbyD: Jacks Teen America, Jacks Playground(I don't really like the way he shoots, something seems very phoney about his pornos but he has alot of stories and plot involved)
Mike John( don't really watch much of his movies but his later ones from RLD had some situations before the sex)

Like I said this porn is outthere all you gotta do is search it out

rocco does gonzo, but always chats to the girls first...at least in his older stuff, he wanders around, picks up women and charms them into fucking...no plot...just interaction beyond genatalia...it makes a huge difference...it adds to the chemistry and makes it look look like sex rather than a sport!

I like vignette style porn, not so much a full story, but a series of stories leading to sex. The problem with stories is that those hired to fuck, may forget that little fact, and try to act too much.

I love a little set up to the scenes, not just "here I am, let's fuck!" A little story can add to porn, but I guess the majority of porn buyers don't want story, which is probably why so many gonzo titles are released and sitting in top sales spots.

I will agree on the issue of tattoos, unless the girl is a "suicide girl" no need to go and get inked all over. And the fake tits, surely some girls gotta like their bodies as is, but porn is about image, and I guess big fake tits enhance careers. Sad as it may be. More than a mouthfulls a waste anyways.

Jules got it right with Darkside of Jenna Haze...just a little set up and right to the action. Jenna getting it on with the shoe salesman in the shoe store was perfect.

I like those little set ups. The maid costume, the nurses outfit, etc. Do I really want to see a whole movie where they are doing a General Hospital rip-off (with worse acting and more sex)? No, but since I grew up in America I find these and other things hot. So a little set-up, a little tease in the right outfits showing off the body can really grab the attention.

Not with Rosebud it didn't. They started putting out movies shortly after Buttman did and about the same time as Max Hardcore started doing his stuff.
No dialogue, just action, with titles that pretty much told you what it was about (anal). They are probably the truest progenitor of modern gonzo.

I guess what I would like to see (not to the exclusion of anything else) is intense, no-holds barred "gonzo" (is the term still relevant?) with a little bit of set up...no dialogue necessary.

For instance, and one sees this relatively little, an ideal scenario would be the boss doing his secretary or favorite office worker (bent over the desk w/ skirt pushed up, etc. etc. etc.)

Both Rob Black (in his early work) and Stagliano have used set up to great effect. I gather Fashionistas interweaves gonzo and plot with great success, given its acclaim (I've not seen it yet, having blanched at the $46 price tag.)

I prefer all-sex" to feature porn, even given the above. It goes without saying that the focus would still have to be on nasty (anal) sex, not self-conscious "style" in the manner of Michaels Ninn, Zen or Raven.

I didn't get into porn to watch a romantic story or a consipricy unfold with some sex thrown in to get an audience.
I like beautiful girls fucking, being fucked and loving it.
I prefer gonzo cos the girls dont have to worry about the plot or portraying a character - they're there cos they're horny and the loooooove showing off

No, they're there for the cash, and it shows on all their faces. They all seem to have the look of "where's my money".

Let me ask you because no one seems to be even addressing this. Have you ever seen a Barely Legal DVD? Notice that they're small little vignettes. The girls aren't worrying about the plot or portraying a character, but it IS set up to give the sex context. In gonzo there is no context other than this girl is getting paid to get fucked. And that's that. Yes, the girls in features and vignettes are getting paid to fuck too, but at least it has some pre-text as to why they are. You can have your suspension of disbelief.

But I guess it's just me. I like to be teased in the beginning and then have a nice big payoff. Guys that like gonzo it seems only like the pay-off. It's all pay-off. It's all desert and no meal, which leaves me feeling very unsatisfied.

But I guess I'm alone in this, so I should just resign myself to the fact that I'll never get what I want, or at best just catch glimpses of it here and there. Meh...I should be used to that by now. So even if I were to hit a financial wind-fall and produce my own porn movie in the way I want it with the ideas that I have, there will be zero market for it.

Do you have a job? I work, but I would say the majority of my co-workers don't enjoy their jobs. Based on the relatively short time span female performers last in the business, I bet the majority don't really enjoy it.

I wonder if it's a generational thing?

Those of us who went to an actual theater to watch an actual film...or even those who bought Betamax or VHS tapes during the Golden Age of Porn might be the ones who prefer a little more settup to the scene. (BTW, I think the Barely Legal series is/was also great.)

To me...and this is only my opinion (and it appears a minority one at that) Gonzo fails to deliver the very reasons most folks invite porn into their sex lives...and that is...fantasy and variety.

I think in large part the reason Gonzo has become what it has become today is that compared to earlier styles of porn, there's very little technical knowledge (and, dare I say it, talent)required to shoot Gonzo and thus the market place is flooded with it.

Economics are also at the root of it. Even if you're a knowledgable film maker...why spend all that money for sets, lighting, editing, etc....when you can just grab a vidcam, shoot, and get a return on your (much smaller) investment in a fraction of the time than if you were shooting something like the Barely Legal series.

And finally, as alluded to above, it may be what the current generation of customers may prefer, largely because this is the style of porn they grew up with (so to speak).

Now..having said all that...I still can't quite grasp why some folks would prefer it. Seeing the same stupid wide angle lens POV shot over and over and over again, hardly qualifies as variety...and most certainly not as fantasy. (Just what IS up with that wide-angle lens...is it THAT much more expensive to buy a second lens?)

But hey...like jug wine vs. a good year from a good vinyard, it sells in greater quantities and thus will be with us for the forseeable future.

not sure what you mean by phoney, If you get the chance maybe you could explain. you might be right. or maybe I need to try something different. I dont ever want to seem phoney, I love this job, and I take it seriously. But as a director or camera operator we dont always have the chance to do what we really want to do. It is a job, and while I'm at work I search for a happy medium that gets me through the day, or something like that. Let me know what you think and I'll see if I can fix it.

I can't really explain it. You're obviously one of the more talented camera guys but it just seems like there's nothing unique in your films aside from a talking dildo.

Not sure if that's DP executives telling you to do 'something like New Sensations movies, or Evil Angel' but I don't really know what a RobbyD movie is. You know?

Like with Joey Silvera you get this creepy feeling that you're instore for a collection of some perverted/twisted porn from his personal stash. Shane's World, now with the Penny Flame is all about that cute, campy type shit. Jules Jordan; you get to live out the fantasies of a regular joe(although he needs to pipe down!! in his scenes, god damn)

After watching Pirates BTS I know you're a cool broham and you make your performers feel at ease, Maybe pull a Hunter S. and make the porn as real as possible and just document the fine beautiful women in Porn Valley, rather than direct them..?

yeah, and stuff

Why all the pretense?
Let's just have the whore say how much she needs to pay her dealer, get her car out of impound and then have the director negotiate her down to just enough she needs to pay the dealer?
This is not cinema! It is not art! Porn is the digital recording of the destruction of a young girl's soul and we, as consumers, drive it. I get off from knowing this and deep down so does everyone else.
Porn with a plot is like lipstick on a pig.
More BTS of whores breaking down, freaking out, yelling, fighting, running off set etc!

I can give you extensive feedback if you want regarding "Control 2". It's better if I send it to you though and your email isn't accessible.

The reviews I write are solely for the consumer:

Teen America 10

Porcelain

Pirates

I'll be glad to write one solely for the director. But just know that you probably won't like everything I say and I can only promise to be completely honest. I think you may find it very helpful though.

Well, personally I love watching the tease and the foreplay in the movies and I wish some directors can do a better job at it. Teasing is an art and some of it knows how to shoot it better than others just like John Woo can shoot an action scene better than others. Not all porn girls are as bad as you make it sound. It's kinda like the stereotype that porn people are all bad, assholes and dumb.

When I'm watching a gonzo movies I don't want a story. I want to see fucking all the time. In a good gonzo movies the women are beautiful, they have sexy clothes and the camerawork is excellent. If I want to see a porn movie with a story I'll watch a feature movie. But that's just my opinion.

thank's for getting back to me. And your so right I cant even begin. I dont even really know what robby d porn is. But I'm trying to find out. All along I've worked for other companies and had specific demographics to target with a project, so on and so on, I think you get it. I'ts all been great fun and thats what I love best about my job. It's rising to a challenge of a different style on a daily basis. I am forced to shift gears every day as a director, camera operator and porn fan. one day its cinematography with large format HD cameras, overcranked for the Celeste movies, and the next its yahoo want to be in a music video Jacks playground, oh yeah then lets change it up for some Teen America, or how about writing some scripts, directing and shooting camera for our mini features like Beat the devil and so on. It can be easy to lose your own identity. But first and formost I am and have always wanted to be a proffesional, a well rounded cinematographer. Digital playground has given me that oppurtunity. I wear many hats the best that I can, and i love the challenge..daily. But as far as what is robby d porn? I would have to say the control series is the closest yet, and I thank Digital for letting me search for my own direction. I dont feel like i"ve even begain to relly shoot robby d porn yet, but i'm warming up and just getting started. It might take a while but i hope its worth the wait. after all iam only sure of one thing, I am a porno fan.

I think some of you are getting confused. I'm not looking for a "story" in porn, but more of a &quotup". A story to me would involve something other than sex. For example, a story of a couple of jewel thieves who also have sex. The "story" is about how they're stealing stuff and how they get to point A to point B, and in between they have a sex scene. That's pretty much what a feature does. This is NOT WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT. So instead of trying to convey my ideas through saying "I wish there was somewhat of a story to it", I'll change that to something else.

I'm talking about the &quotup". The set up totally revolves around the sex. Every porn movie ever made has a set up. Even gonzos. But in gonzos the set up is pretty much the same for every one. Girl in room is introduced, says what she's going to do or what she needs, then the sex begins. No tease really, or very little, and then action.

Barely Legal 2 has a scene in it. Cheerleaders Teri Starr and Kristi coming to Joel Lawrence’s house to try and sell him tickets to the big game. Joel answers the door in a towel since he just got out of the shower. After his towel falls off they get into a little “I’ve showed you mine, now you show me yours” and each play with themselves a bit. That's the set up. And actually it takes about as long to set it up as it does a typical gonzo scene. Nothing complicated, but it's a great tease and it sets up the sex very nicely.

Now do you get it? Or does everyone like the same set-up over and over and over and over? Yes, some gonzos have a different take on the stock set-up, but very little variations.

Jim Powers incorporates what you are talking about on some of his gonzo movies for Powersville. Try something like School Girls 3.

If I buy a porn flick and there's a plot or more than 60 seconds of no hard core fucking you better damn well give me my money back you swindler.

If I want plot I'll watch a mainstream movie.

Now more hard core arse fucking, DP'ing, DAP'ing , skull fucking gonzo smut please

Then I suppose you should get your money back on every movie you've ever watched. Because even in gonzo there is more than 60 seconds of "plot" in the beginning. Yeah, the plot is basically the same over and over, but it's still a set-up or "plot". Better get cracken stefank60 and get that money back.

Then I propose this. Stop making new porno movies. I mean, there's really no need and you producers can save a shit load of money. Just take all the footage you have now and take out all the set-up, and make hours and hours of just endless fucking. Don't even worry about keeping the footage of the same girl more than a few seconds before moving on to another girl and another fuck session. Bah, they don't want to see anything that's set-up. You could actually take 5 gonzo movies and edit them all together and mix them up, edit here and there, and the re-sell them and these morons wouldn't know the difference. They'll think they're actually buying a new flick. Just so long as it has only the fucking and sucking. That's all that matters. Also, take out all the beds and the sofas and the backgrounds because that's distracting too. Also, because the fans are afraid of seeing an actual penis, digitally remove all traces of the man doing the sex. All we want to see is the bimbo, am I right guys? Let's face it, if we see naked men, we might turn gay and we don't want that. If we wanted to see a naked guy we would have rented a gay porno.

That's right. Screw porno that tries something a little different. We don't want different, we want the same stuff over and over! Just give us catchy titles like "Scum swallowing ass-whores getting the shit beat out of them and dumped into an alley afterwards - And loving it!" and we'll be happy.

gonzo for me thx

I watch porn for the sex. Thats it! Like Stefank60 said : if i want a story of any kind, i'll watch a hollywood production. (Im trying not to be offensive but the 'stories' in porn are rather laughable and unsexy. Even some cheesey intro like girls going to guys house to sell tickets sounds pretty lame. But this is just MY opinion.)

Everyones opinions differ and for this reason there are gonzo and feature porn productions. Enough said i think.

The pendelum is swinging back to story driven sex.

I love gonzo but there is just too much of it in the market right now.

I started shooting what I shoot because it is story driven... and because I'm a perv. :)

So "Jenna Haze: Darkside" isn't to your liking then? That's the kind of movie that I was talking about. It has smoking sex and yet has a set-up for every scene in the video. So stefank60 and blueyonder and Braintaxx...should we assume that since there was lots of set-up in that video, you didn't like it?

Just curious, because "Jenna Haze: Darkside" is exactly what I'm referring to when I say I'd like to see more set-up for a sex scene.

I was talking about adult movies in general. I haven't seen Jenna Haze: Darkside until now.

The vignette type of movie, or even one with a story is better, IMO opinion anyway.
Why? Because gonzo that has no set up of any kind is throw away porn. It's okay for a rental, but who would want to buy it? there's no reason to.
I don't care how good a scene in a gonzo movie is, after awhile it becomes utterly forgettable.
Everyone remembers Ginger Lynn's famous DP scene in New Wave Hookers. Partly because she put in one hell of a performance, but also because it had a set up, a mini story, costumes etc. How could anyone forget her hooker outfit, the dirty talking and the two dudes dresssed up as nerds that got to fuck her (one of which was Tom Byron).
You take that scene and put it on a random couch in any LA porn house with no set up to the scene, no costumes, no real reason why they are fucking and you've got yourelf throw away porn. Just one of thousands of scenes from Big Tit Bitches #25 that nobody gives a fuck about in a month or two.
Why should I buy or even rent a new gonzo flick now? There are hundreds if not thousands of movies that are all identical on the shelves.
Hi, I'm Dolly and I'm going to fuck these guys now: Oral, pussy fucking, ass fucking, cumshot on the face, finished.
You might even get cursed with the moron director who likes to ask stupid questions while the girl is giving someone a blowjob. The last thing I want to hear is some idiot asking dumb questions no one wants to know the answers to interrupting a girl giving a blowjob.
You see a few gonzo fuck scenes and you've pretty much seen them all.
Would it hurt to change things up just a little? The new stuff is the same as the old stuff. New girl shows up in town and she's in every damn movie on the shelf for a couple of months then she disappears.
Hell, even all the covers look the same now. You can't tell one company from the next.

It's all just your opinion, mate. I couldn't care less about any of the New Wave Hookers series. I'm not interested in how funny Jonathon Morgan's latest feature for Wicked is. I don't really care how good Ashlyn Gere's acting is in some random throwaway feature from Vivid 10 years ago was. I'm just not interested in features for their own sake.

I don't have some kind of irrational hatred for them either, since my fingers know how to work the remote control and make talking part go faster, and I do appreciate the wardrobe/locations in many of them. In fact, using Mr.Remote Control makes features into vignette titles.

However, if I want to watch comedy, I don't turn to porn. If I want to watch a historical epic, I don't turn to porn. If I want to watch fine acting and performance, or quality improvisation, I don't turn to porn. If I want to watch people dressed as Cleopatra or Pirates or Nurses or whatever fucking one another, sure, it's time for that particular porn film (usually a feature) and Mr.Remote works his magic.

I do have to question your statement that features have more of an intrinsic value than gonzos though. Maybe you didn't watch porn through the 1990's? I don't know. Choosing a porn film (NWH) that everyone has heard of if not seen hardly illustrates your point though. How about regaling us all with a great scene from one of the many, many 1-day wonder features that were shot in the last 15 years which we should all remember?

Oh, because features can be and is just as churned-out and forgettable as gonzo porn. Vivid still release stuff, after all. Wicked still release stuff. Is every feature released a 5-star classic? Why would you think that Erotic Expertise is better than Manhammer in any way simply because one is a feature and the other is all-sex?

All the covers look the same? Can't tell one company from the next? I agree with you to an extent, but check out, say, 100-randomly-chosed feature titles from the last 15 years and tell me if that's not also the case.

Watch 100 random scenes from those 100 random features and tell me if about 80% of them are interchangable.

The fact is, that 80% of porn, whether it's gonzo or features or anything else is throwaway porn. 20% of the gonzo out there is great stuff. 20% of the features are also great. But most porn is just rubbish. Which 20% appeals to you will change depending on any individuals' personal fetishes but I think 20%=great is a pretty fair guesstimation, and it's regardless of genre.

edit - bloody italics out of control again.

If anything, gonzo might be getting more style with a few people trying new things. As has been mentioned already, the market seems fairly saturated with it, and there are a few people out there who are using that to try to springboard into something new.
It's been a while since I've checked some of your stuff out, but after checking out Teen America: Mission 13 last night (review coming tomorrow morning), it does look like you're growing much more confident. Where some of your older stuff seemed to jump around a bit, no doubt searching for what you were told it was to be. TA 13 seemed to know where it was going much better, and definitely left me looking forward to more of what's to come from you. Sounds like I'm going to have check out the Control movies...
