Hi, I looked at cd universe and they have a movie I want. But cant afford the $22.00. They are asking $4.75 for a used dvd. This is their slashed priced from a sale. Is it a risk? Thanks for your input in advance.
^ LOL! In all seriousness, all purchases through e-commerce carry risk. Perhaps it's worth asking if they test their used DVDs so you don't order a dud.
Ha the old joke used to be dont borrow a porn mag off someone as the pages might be stuck together LOL I guess the same might be true of a 2nd hand DVD you wont know what state it's in ;)
^ That old joke never made sense to me re: DVDs. With magazines and books it makes sense because you are holding the physical media, but who jerks off holding the DVD box? I think people like to fantasize about these things.
^Well, if you look at that as damaging the physical media - which is, as Jiggly Boobs implied, the real risk with a used DVD. It's the same as the risk with used CDs: any used DVD, whether porn or non-porn, has the risk that it's scratched and unplayable. Which isn't to say you can't buy a new disc that won't play (I've even had that happen with blu-ray once) but it's much more likely to happen with used discs.
Well funny enough i lent my cousin a porno years back told him i didn't need it back but he returned it anyway complete with sticky finger marks on the box and disc i guess he never washed his hands before putting the DVD back in the case LOL. Not necessarily talking about porn DVDs here, just any disc-based media. It never ceases to amaze me when you buy second-hand (sight unseen), the horrible condition of some discs. What do people do with them?? To my mind, a CD/DVD should only ever be in one of two places - in the player or in it's box/sleeve/case. That's it. So how some people manage to get them looking like they've been dragged through a farmyard is beyond me.
i wouldnt do it. thats especially cheap compared to the regular price. i learned not to go cheap when buying porn and just pay for the new dvds. maybe buying a used game at gamestop is ok but i have seen used porn dvds in horrible condition almost to the point it shouldnt even be on sale again.
A sizable part of my collection consists of used DVDs. I rarely have any problems. Even sometimes when I look at the suface of the DVD and see all types of scratches it still usually plays just fine. The funny thing is more often than not it's the DVDs that look smooth and untouched that might have a defect. If you're buying a DVD from a company it's more likely they'll check it for playabilty. They don't want to waste time having a DVD go out that has to be returned and possibly get a bad rep.
I won't name the sellers but I've had one or two 'new' DVDs arrive looking anything but. Like Draxxx says, though, playback is usually unaffected. I think the label (non-playback) surface of a disc is the one most susceptible to error-causing damage as the data layer sits just beneath it. The side that's read, by comparison, has a layer of tough plastic to protect it as that's the side that most often gets scratched (how, I don't know - see previous post).
I think it depends on who you buy them from.I buy used from a local store that sells used books and DVDs.They also carry adult movies and some old magazines,although they aren't cheap.Also there is a 2nd and Charles store located nearby.

The DVD player itself should be a good one. I had one from 2007 to June this year. I used to stuff my CDs in there as well. Five years down the road or so some discs did not play fully through. I'm talking new porn DVDs. Not new or old CDs or mainstream DVDs. Anyway the Pioneer player that used to do the job but from time to time not the way it should eventually broke down at the end of June. I got me a new one from Germany for about 200 dollars. Panasonic Blue-Ray. Takes those mid-2000 russian DVDs and everything from Sineplex and Sinsational without having to deal with it. And I got me one pretty basic little DVD player from Sony for the CDs because I wanna be able to play CDs alongside with the DVDs. The point this leads up to is that now EVERY DVD GOES ALONG PLAYABLE 100 % AS THEY'RE SUPPOSED TO WHEREAS THE OLD PIONEER HAD LIKE TOUGH STRUGGLES AT THE END OF IT'S LIFETIME before it just shut down the biz through one old pianoballad. So get yourself some german technique if DVDs with flaws comes into being played. And by the way sorry to those that felt I was a little harsh back when this matter was up in some topic about what u hate in porn. I mentioned DVDs with flaws. Yeah, but they are not un-playable even with those flaws. It was only my old DVD-player that started to think so, and I couldn't really argue with that...

I am a collector and don't care that much whether a DVD is new or used. Sometimes only a used version is still available.
Typical Risks:
1. Most sites guarantee that their DVDs, new or used, will play. See the site xrentdvd.com, for example. 2. A former user of a DVD is not likely to leave his calling card on a DVD the way he might on a magazine. He is going to be watching the movie and not the disk. 3. You may find that a borderline-quality used DVD plays on one player and not on another.
If a DVD site offers a used version with the artwork, and it is cheaper than the new version, I go with the used one.
Very occasionally, you will see a site that has a sale on the new version that makes it cheaper than the used version.
The price difference between new and used versions can vary greatly. You might have a new one for $20, and a used one for $15 or $5.
All "new" DVDs that you open have now become "used." Once you put your DVDs in an album, or anywhere else, think of them all as used.
I actually kind of like the idea of purchasing a DVD with a "history."
