It was legal to sell your kidney so that someone unfortunate could live. Sounded like a neat idea until you realized that hundreds of people needed the money and began putting their kidneys on market to pay for weddings, cars, and other things. I'm noticing something similar in the industry. Lots of my client's xpeeps and myspace friend requests are from people coast to coast "starting a production company", or "looking to get in the industry". From AVN, I was used to the number of people curious, but now, they seem more confident and are actually doing it. Many have no knowledge of the law, and many more don't realize there isn't as much money in it as there used to be. Instead of kidneys, everyone out there seems to think that if they take their clothes off and sell their bodies for a few minutes, that will take care of everyting. Apparently, Andy Warhol needs an upgrade, in the near future, everyone will be naked on the internet for 15 minutes. It's great for the sexual revolution and certainly a wake-up call for the prudes, but I've got a feeling this business won't be on stable ground for very much longer if this keeps up. At least for men who decide to do it, there is the hope that they will not only get the opportunity to fuck countless hot chicks, but to get paid for it at the same time. Supposedly, this is every guy's dream. For women, however, I really don't see what they get out of it except for a little bit more money and perhaps the hope of eventual fame and fortune (which never happens by mainstream standards). I know in alot of BTS footage, when women are asked why they decided to do porn, alot of them say it was for the sex. But this makes no sense considering that these same women could still get alot of sex even if they weren't in porn, if that's what they really want. Of course, having a camera right in front of your face often has an effect on whether or not a person says what he/she really means. Also, I think it has alot to do with a culture of immediate gratification. Nowadays, people only think about the here and now, and not what's going to happen 20, 30, or 40 years down the line. People figure that they'll just do some porn, make alot of money, and they'll be happy. Keeping in mind that alot of the newcomers to the business are quite young (the industry is making quite alot of money on the teen niche), these people really aren't thinking that the decisions they make now will affect the rest of their lives. In this culture, it's just all about get what you can get now while you're still young and beautiful, and forget about how it will impact your future, or even your present. [Link] |
