No, but the place you mention was then owned by the same company. The one I worked at was/is on Van Nuys Blvd across from The Sherman Oaks Hospital & Grossman Burn Ctr.

How cool to see Leanni back - in whatever function! She always had my heart with that smile of hers!

Nice to hear from you again, Don!

Its getting crazy-expensive in Studio City and Sherman Oaks , but thats where I'd look. Try The Premiere on Woodman Blvd by the 101...nice pools; a couple jacuzzi's; theater rooms with wide screen TVs and cinema seating; modern gym facilities; on-site dry cleaners; golf hole, etc...the apts. themselves are a little smallish, but thoroughly modern.

Skip The Grand on Sepulveda, it use to be nice but has fallen into disrepair. Ditto The Oasis and the once beautiful complexes in Woodland Hills near The Warner Center.

If you're looking for places where talent lives, I can't help ya...been way too long for this old coot - besides most live a fairly low-key, low-profile existence - no big woop!

No, I'm not looking where talent lives, I just want to live in a problem free complex. Right now, I live in a complex where my neighbors are incredibly noisy. Right now, my upstairs neighbor is hammering on the floor (I have no idea why). The people before them were noisy as well.

The one thing I hate about LA is the high cost of renting and the low quality of the complexes. So many places want to charge $1200 for a 600 sq ft apartment that does not even have a washer and dryer. Or, the complex has no guest parking (that one is huge and puts a massive cramp on my dating life; imagine a friend having to park 3 streets over because there is no parking anywhere on your street)

John -

It's good to hear from you,too...I see that you re-joined one of my Yahoo Groups and you have always been welcome there. To update you on what's been happening...remember when I shot my first "Viewpoint" Interactive DVD with Lily Thai and Nick East? Shortly after; Lily announced that she would not do anymore B/G scenes (jealous director B/F) so the distributors renamed it "Lily Thai's Last Stand".Well...AVN Mag reviewed it and gave it 4 stars in the July issue so all of my hard work paid off.And let me tell you - when you direct Lily Thai,it is HARD

Should I announce here officially that after an absence from in front of the cameras for almost 14 1/2 months,my babe Sabrine Maui will return in Volume 3 of my "Cream Pie Girls" series and ;of course, she has the box 'cause the prettiest girl always goes on the box, right!

BTW - I shoot the Interactive from my POV but I hire a stud so that nobody can say they got motion-sickness from watching an Interactive DVD shot by me LOL

P.S.- Shameless plug coming right after my salutation.

In the present market you'd be lucky to rent just a washer and dryer for $1200.00 a month.

If I didn't already own a house, I couldn't afford to live here.

I'm not so sure on the mass appeal thing. You would be amazed at just how many of your neighbors have a porn collection hiding under their mattress. Perhaps it's more socially acceptable to tell your friends... "yeah, they just shot a Tom Cruise movie two houses away." I might be a little peeved if I had children and someone was fucking with lights and camera on my front lawn in plane view without asking me, but the directors know the score. It's all very behind closed doors particularly for any kids in the neighborhood. Would you be peeved if you had children and knew someone was snorting a whole lot of cocaine a few yards away from where you live and they play... because that's more like the porn valley and the whole greater LA for that matter. I lived in LA for years before directing porn and never had a clue as to what goes on behind all those closed door and warehouse spaces. LA is certainly a place in and of itself, but the surrealism revolves around the entire entertainment business. I for one think the porn valley is just too damn hot in the summer time, so I remain a beach girl. I've been out with all sorts of well-known porn girls and directors and owners of companies, and it's just pretty much business as usual out here. Maybe you do a double take, but then life goes on. It's just a bunch of people trying to make a living... some more successfully than others. And if you're looking for scantily clad girls with boobs popping out of their tiny bathing suit tops, I would say take a bike ride along the beach.

Yeah, I have heard alot about Lily Thai's last Stand ...it looks like one to get - I love Lily's vibe and she's cute as all hell...perfect breasts, too.

Damn these boyfriends!

I think this may be the second time that I've re-joined a couple yahooGroups...still have no idea when/why my membership disappears...maybe because I'm not all that active in some of them...who knows with Yahoo.

SFV has nothing but strip malls and porn companies.
It is extremely bland and boring.

An opinion...like any. However, I've found alot to do in the Valley. Sure, its filled with strip malls...so Is L.A. itself. If you have the desire and perhaps an open-mind, you can easily find alot of diversions in the SFV.

Haven't been there in years - wish I still had that much disposable income! I always really liked the atmosphere there, and the girls were always super-hot! I once hired a woman who was only a waitress there - and she was more beautiful than the dancers at most clubs!

What a great topic.
I have been a lurker on ADT for years.

I have been working with one of the big industry greats on the East coast for 9 years and have decided to move to the Valley in September to be closer to the "belly of the Beast".

I have been pricing apartments in the Chatsworth and surrounding communities online, but seem to be getting only the higher end, more expensive deals. Any advice on where to search would be greatly appreciated.

When yu look online or through those glossy For Rent magazines, you are only looking at the higher end complexes - as this type of advertising is done well in advance and requires a place that has a set advertising budget for the year. Those ads are placed sometimes up to a 1/2 year before they run as those mags only publish quarterly or monthly at best. Because of this, the prices are often wrong and they may not have vacancies at all.

The smaller "Mom & Pop" shops (that can also be the quieter and well-kept places) don't advertise this way. They tend to only advertise on an as needed basis. This means they'll be seen in the lower-end publications and the ones that print weekly like The Recycler and The PennySaver . They also rely more on just posting banner signs when they have vacancies.

Unfortunately, I usually tell people the best way to shop apartments is to actually drive around the neighborhoods looking for signs.

Another good angle are the rental companies. There use to be tons of them and most were scams, but the State Attorney's office has pretty much cleaned out all the illegitimate ones by now. You go there and pay a fee that grants you access to hundreds of up-to-date listings of properties registered with them - very often you can also get move-in specials via this route also.

The rental market is still pretty tight in the Valley and West L.A. There are more people looking for apartments than there are vacancies and this continues to drive the rates sky-high. It probably won't get better anytime soon (unless there is another eathquake or major economic depression), as there has been virtually no new housing built for years and alot of the places that went down in the quake back in '94 never re-built.

Hope all this helps...gimme a holla when you get here and we'll have drinks!

Thanks for the lowdown, JAG. I was hoping to be able to do a little online shopping before I got out there, but it sounds like the best way will be to hit the streets when I'm there.
Thanks for the advice, and the first round is on me.

I drove night shift taxi in the valley for about a year in the mid 90's and I only took one porn star on a rock run one time.

^ Almost 4 years on - probably not much has changed other than property prices being substantially lower and even more people.

if you think the valley is heaven, well i'm sorry for you, but it's probably the lamest region of los angeles. it's the kind of place people don't want to admit they're from, not because of the porn (i don't think most people there think "omg i'm in porno valley!" they're too busy buying ugly overpriced clothes and selling/taking drugs and acting absurd/insane.), but because it's just so lame and it's known as being tacky and seedy (once again, not really at all related to porn, but the type of REGULAR people who reside there- MAINLY NOT PORNSTARS!).

However, do you end up running into people in the industry quite often...
And once people know you are in the industry, you get asked a ton of stupid questions.

Yeah, I wonder what the rental situation is like in the SFV these days, post GFC.
I may check it out next month when I am in LA. So far I haven't been that impressed with Santa Monica, Sunset Blvd or downtown LA, but then I suppose you have to know where the little gems are in a place the size of LA.

Silver Lake is nice. Really liked that part of the city. Sylmar is more or less a straight up suburb I think, but it was far enough out that it felt okay. I've got friends who still work mainstream who live in North Hollywood (NoHo) and that seemed okay. Mission Hills I wasn't impressed with, but I found a great mexican restaurant there...
