Hypothetical question: suppose Rocco Sifredi were starting out today where every few days he puts out a video of him doing a new girl. (serial content)
Would he be doing this via OF or a dot com site? Which might be more successful right now?
In other words, is OF replacing dot com sites for serial content?
I'll play along. If someone named Rocco were to choose to start fucking a random girl and upload it to his OF account then you, me and just about every other person on this forum wouldn't give a rat's ass because we wouldn't know who he is anymore than we know the hundreds (if not thousands) of women who are currently on OF who shoot some type of adult content on a regular basis.
The reason you used Rocco as an example is because you know who he is and you only know that because of the decades of porn he has appeared in. How about you give me the name of an OF male performer that you want to watch fuck random girls and then you will have an answer to your question.
I think if people are active on social media they would discover performers no matter where. Its like sports. Back in the day we saw players like Jerry Rice fall under the radar bc he came from a small school Mississippi Valley State rather than Miami Hurricanes. Now a days no player fall under the radar bc there are scouts everywhere.
Social media will make performers like Savannah Solo, for example, popular. She hasnt done one single mainstream scene but yet she is extremely popular with her onlyfans. It just comes down to whether or not you the individual take the plunge and sub to onlyfans to watch that performers content.
Of course the reason why most people dont sub to onlyfans is 1) too expensive 2) poor quality 3) not really ran by the performer themselves etc... I can say thats not the case for everyone but when a person experiences a few bad accounts they seem to lump everyone in the same boat. I can name plenty of content creators who have 1) reasonable prices if not dirty cheap prices 2) great quality if not on the same level or better level than some mainstream sites 3) the performer actually is in full control of their account.
So I think onlyfans is taking over just like the OP mentioned how there once was VHS/DVD then it became the dot.com era and streaming and now its onlyfans. I know change can be hard and uncomfortable and even feel weird but its necessary. I like the fact that we are getting to see more and more girls who otherwise would never shoot mainstream are becoming well known from onlyfans. Girls like Susie Stellar, Dubsie, and as I mentioned before Savannah Solo. Obviously Dubsie is finally shooting mainstream and signed with I think Motley. She also recently shot with Manuel Ferrera. But before then unless you was heavily into onlyfans you wouldnt have known who she was. I discovered her from following Kasey Warner onlyfans and all the content they made together. Then Dubsie made content with Jenna Foxx and others. Susie Stellar has shot with Indica Flower and Jenna Foxx as well.
So again I do think onlyfans is replacing dot.com sites. Of course dot.com sites will still be here and performers will still produce content for them BUT the power is more in performers hands where if they want to debut the first anal or dp and they want to do it for their onlyfans they can. They dont have to go to Vixen or Evil Angel to do so. If a performer want to get together with someone that they have been wanting to shoot with for a very long time but for some reason a studio would never book them together they can just do it on their onlyfans. Its that simple so that is what makes onlyfans relevant and here to stay.
^ Your last paragraph is my biggest gripe with Only Fans. Performers doing important firsts there instead of for mainstream. And some will make you pay through the roof for that scene on top of a monthly subscription. And then you find out that the anal or DP is sometimes just a couple of minutes. When Alina Lopez said she would do anal this year for her Only Fans, it was like being told that Leeds United will win the Champions League this year, but I couldn't watch it. And yes, I could cave and join for that scene. But if I did that once, it could turn into a snowball effect and I don't have the finances for that. OF is better for the performers, but mainstream is still better value for the consumer. But unlike the websites replacing the DVD studios (or the DVD studios going online too), I don't think OF will replace the websites. And we all saw last year just how unstable OF can be. What's to stop them reversing the decision to reverse the decision to ban adult content? (Money, but my point still stands). Or making other rules that could impact on the content performers do there?
As for Rocco starting now, he'd probably start an OF and then be approached by someone. It's coming up a lot in Captain Jack's interviews. Whether he would end up with his own site, or just do that stuff for OF I don't know.
^ I totally get what you are saying that onlyfans is better for the performers but mainstream is better for the consumer. I do think that there are those performers who understand that as well and make their content more affordable. But the thing is, what is more affordable to you the individual? Is it paying $20 a month to watch scenes? But then people sign up to pay $20 a month for one performer as you mentioned Alina Lopez. So if she did one scene for Vixen in a month and thats the only scene you signed up to watch then you are paying $20 for that month just to watch one scene. You can sub to her onlyfans for best case scenario a free trial she gives for that month and get a new scene she made for $20 or even lightly better $15. Isnt that the same?
Now if you are like me and like multiple performers then its hard to go on onlyfans bc money is going to be crazy expensive trying to support multiple performers. On the other hand if I sub to a mainstream site I can see those same multiple performers scenes throughout the month or months for one price. So thats what you are saying. At the same time though what might be expensive to others might not be. Paying $20 for a scene from onlyfans is great for me but it might be too expensive for someone else. And just like you said if its something you truly want to see you might bite the bullet to pay $40-50 or even more for a scene. Ive certainly done that before. So it just depends. But you also have to know who you are dealing with too. Some content creators will false advertise while others wont. For example, Abigail Mac did a creampie scene awhile back with her husband for her onlyfans. Its rare for her to do it bc she dont like to do creampies. But she did it for her fans. I didnt see it but I know the price wasnt expensive at least imo. Then she has since then re-released it multiple times for even cheaper. So it wasnt like she was saying "first time creampie let me charge $100 and take advantage of my fans". She understood yes its a business but if she do right by her fans, her fans will do right by her. And I think that is one of the main reasons why Abi is great. Same can be said about Lacy Lennon. She did her first G/G anal. That I did buy and see. She wasnt blowing up the prices to take advantage either. Her price was very reasonable. But again every performer is different you just have to find out those who are and those who arent.
I agree that onlyfans can be reliable and performers know that. There are other sites similar to onlyfans that performers can go too and are already at that the second onlyfans do reverse course those other sites are going to say "we support sex workers and we wont do what onlyfans did".
^ No, it isn't the same because Vixen or other sites have other performers that will likely interest me for no added cost. It is not the same with OF, sadly. And I'm not gonna waste my pounds on a just buy it and see if I like it, I want to know beforehand that it will be worth it for me. Your advice may be helpful for others, though, so I'm still glad you posted it.
^ I totally get what you are saying. I was just thinking there are sites where people will join just to only see one performer. And also when it comes to OF scenes there are performers who will create good if not great trailers so we will know what we are getting before we actually get it. It just depend on the performer bc I agree that OF can be hit or miss when it comes to the content creator. I just wouldnt lump the good ones all in with the bad ones bc I dont think its fair. In the same way I wouldnt lump the good mainstream sites with all the bad ones as a reason never to sign up to any mainstream sites. But again I do get what you are saying.
^ I see your point. Maybe it is because I view OF as one site (which it technically is) when it is in reality just a destination for lots of different subscriptions. For me, it would be like a mainstream site charging memberships per model, and you only getting access to that performer(s) scenes. I guess it is just another way of doing things, and clearly a very successful one as well. And it is great for those who subscribe that there are good performers making good content (the fact that these tend to be performers with at least 5 years in mainstream and/or directing experience isn't really surprising). OF is here to stay, I accept that. It just frustrates me when a scene I've looked forwards to happens there instead. Still, Kenna James did do mainstream DPs after her OF first, so sometimes it has a happy ending! I don't lump the good performers in with the bad ones. I would imagine that, say, Casey Calvert or Angela White make good content on the whole. That is where my snowball effect comment comes in for me. I am also quite stubborn, so even though you make several valid points pigs are still more likely to evolve wings than I am to join a performers OF. So long as mainstream remains a viable competitor, that is (Which I think likely, at least in the near future).
Instead of OF being one performer per "page" or "account" what if each "page" is a series similar to a mainstream website? (IE: 1000 facials or PervMom etc)
And has PH or XV done anything to challenge OF or become anything like them?
^So basically what you are saying is that you want OF to be like mainstream .com porn sites. Sorry to burst your balloon but that's never going to happen. The fact that you want OF to be what mainstream porn sites are means that you don't believe that OF is replacing porn because if it was then you wouldn't want them to change.
OF is a fad and will remain a fad until less and less people support it because the reality is that most paying porn fans can't afford to join more than a handful of their favorites OF pages and I doubt they can keep renewing each month. If they also join porn sites then there is even less money to put toward their favorite's OF account and don't get me started on the extra cost for buying videos that are include in a normal membership.
PH and XV business model directly challenges OF because they probably encourage people to upload OF content to their platform and I doubt it's something the uploader is legally allowed to do.
I would love to have a more robust conversation on the subject of OF replacing standard porn sites but I'm still waiting for someone to give me real world examples of OF models that are well known in the porn community at large and have only appeared on OF.
I agree with this from a billing perspective, but it's possible if they become big and ubiquitous enough, they will open it up to channels for further growth, much like youtube content creators having multiple "channels"This kind of relates to your earlier paragraph; after speaking with a few models, I've come to understand the customer's expectation on OF is radically different from a porn site. The OF customer wants interactivity with the model and prefers solo, sexy daily-life type content over BG or even lez. The customer churn appears to be much higher too. In this regard, I agree with your statement that it can be a bit of a fad, but a fad with a long tail.OF challenges the cam business - makes sense since the creator came from myfreecams - and the tubes dont want OF content uploaded to their platform. There are rules that you cant promote your OF pages if you upload to PH or XV. OF is hurting traditional porn in another way: it is siphoning talent more than cams ever did. Once a girl becomes modestly big as a pornstar, she can earn a comfortable living just doing OF. Luckily many girls don't want to do this. They like to treat porn as their job where they go to work, do a scene, and they are done - not required to constantly post on social media. You'll see more european girls do this because Europe offers a great education system and less stigma with porn, allowing girls to go onto careers without fear of workplace snickering and abuse.Does Belle Delphine count? A successful OF model needs to be multi-channelled so even if she's not in mainstream porn, she has exposure everywhere else.
^Hopefully you know the answer but wouldn't you say that camming is basically the best way for fans to interact with their favorite model since it's in real time and you don't need to waste a lot of time if you know when the model is online.
I don't know if Belle can be used as a good example of an OF only model because she didn't actually start on OF but had a social media following as well as a You Tube account and even a PH account prior to joining OF.
