Reviewers Recommend Why We Cheat 2 - review by Captain Jack Director: Mike Quasar Starring: Clarke Kent, Ryan Keely, Ryan McLane, Jay Smooth, Some Dude, Alexa Chains, Taylor Wild, Isa Bella. Read review
Casts look good, but I am disappointed that all PXP and RLD movies seem to be moving to the 1 on 1 theme. I really liked the variety of 2 on 1, gangbangs etc. I know they cost more, but I'm sure I'm not the only one who wants something different than 1 on 1 sex.
Ok, ok so I learned you shouldn't write opinionaited things in public at 1am!!! I apologize Brandon, I used to like it when you hung out with us, I really do like you and think you've done wonderful things in this business, especially helping out guys get started!!!
To defend myself (I hated being dissed by Von Swine cuz he's soooo sexy!) I started as a PA last March, by August I've been doing movies with Claudio Bergamin shooting them w/no directors credit but they've done pretty well so I've moved up pretty quick. I also am Production Manager for Michael Stefano. I really wasn't sticking up for the people that "sign my checks" I know there's been problems and they're getting fixed I just really like the chances they've trusted me with and how supportive everyone is.
Hopefully I'll be around for a while. I once again apologize, Brandon that wasn't my place, I just got defensive of all the shit about RLD/PXP.
I love our new covers, we're trying to get away from the typical boring "porn look."
Anyway, sorry if I came off badly, forgive me and look out for me!! P.S. Von Swine, seriously you are sooo hot!!!

I just checked the RLD site and they have one coming out later this month called Tinker With My Stinker.
Getting rid of Brandon was no shock as they don't want owners over there anymore as they've had to pay out to much money and it's money they don't have. They are going the cheapest route and that's cookie cutter porn with little focus on the big name directors.

And they are probably correct. The 10-man-blowbang-cumfart stuff probably doesn't sell any better than your average Ed Powers el-cheapo vid, so why bother? The wave of the future.
Would love to see Brandon go to JJV or Evil Angel, basically somewhere where he can have creative control. I know Stagliano has used him in some Buttman scenes in the past. JJV seems a good fit though, being that the directors whose titles are most referred to on ADT are Jules Jordan and Brandon Iron, with Mike John not far behind.

Does this mean that the business model that RLD/PLTM X started out with does not work?

If no one needs PXP anymore then I am willing to take whatever is left from it. Someone's trash is someone's treasure.

I bet it worked, worked too well. Like Jewel said, greed takes over and people start to believe that it's better to keep all the marbles and takes risks on talent verses running with a proven winner.
I think it started when the got the Paris Hilton Tape. They saw that as a way of getting their "brand" out there and didn't care about the directors anymore.
I dissagree, if that was the case it would have worked with Pam, Tanya and every other celebrity release. What they see is people buy orn regardless of who directs it.
"if that was the case it would have worked with Pam, Tanya and every other celebrity release." - they have anything to do with those releases.
"What they see is people buy orn regardless of who directs it." - i agree some people do
They got a whole load of coverage in the media because of the Paris video. They stuck a load of their stuff on it as bonuses, making it like a trojan horse for alot of people who were not generally porn fans. They also tried hooking up with Interscope records to reach more people. Indeed i think they decided enough people don't care who directs. If they're still doing well then that plan worked.
If they were doing well they'd still be distributing their own product instead of paying someone else to do it. Sometimes this business is it's own worst enemy.
In many industries(take pharmaceuticals for instance) it is cheaper to have a distributor manage things as it can get costly and complicated for a company to have all that distribution infrastructure in place and all those contacts with retailers.

Lowering costs and focusing on brand only works for a while until the buyers find out that the brand has changed. After that, it is straight downhill.

Red Light District and Platinum X have a legacy behind them (mason, brandon, jake, everhard, vouyer etc.). The product they are putting out now can't appeal to the same people it used to. So they are shifting focus. I do not belong to the people they can market their dvds anymore. Mark wood, Mr. Pete, Rico Strong, Batiste are b-rated male performers imo, not directors. Juan cuba, Claudio meloni are mopes. and i'm sure kristie love is the future of xxx.

I think Mark Wood is heavily underrated. He did solid work for years and was a staple in title for V Styles and even Jules on occasion. The rest I will give you. I have no idea where Mr. Pete came from, but just another example of what I don't want to see in porn.

Mark Wood used to be the docile guy next to Brandon Iron when they were a directing duo for devil's films back in the day. He is a veteran and he's always had work as a performer from directors such as mike quasar, chris streams, pat myne and skeeter kerkove. The same is true for mr. pete. But it takes some wits to produce good filth and these two simply do not have the flair for it. That's the reason rldpx are shifting market. More generic product means less appeal means cheap cheap cheap. John Strong is solid but carved from one stone, so you can't expect diversity from him. I just know that the product I will be looking forward to in the future doesn't come from rldpx. Right now, it's fuck slaves 2 from Jake, Cheek Freaks from Jazz Duro, Angel Perverse 7 from Christoph Clark, Prying Open My Third eye 2 from Mike Adriano, Greg Lansky , Blow It Out Your Ass from william H., Romancing The Ass from Steve Holmes,Jay Sin's movies joining Buttman Magazine after his departure from sineplex etc. etc.
I even prefer Skeeter Kerkove, Jordan Septo, Stoney Curtis to what rld has become. Joachim Kessef's product is also top notch and Le Castel (if he was directing for soone) can also produce better filth. Not to mention european companies like 21sextury. So RLDPX is still alive? Who cares?
But they still would have incurred the costs of distributing, which may have been greater than paying someone else to do it. Maybe I'm missing the point?
A distribution operation can be costly in terms of overhead. If a production company's sales volume is high enough, the 30%-40% off-the-top distribution fee covers those costs and brings in additional profits. As sales volume drops, however, the benefits of self-distribution for a production company like RLD/PXP diminish rapidly.
Now with Brandon Iron gone, that was pretty much the last director that interested me at Platinum X. Now its only JJV, Evil Angel and Sineplex. It's almost kind of nice to only watch 3 studios now.
They were a company putting out more product then anyone at one time with one of the top distribution rings in the business. The new direction they have taken seems to of made a huge impact on them and their once reigning distribution market. I feel they had no choice but to turn over the distribution to someone else and that's a shame since they were once top players.
I think Plat X and RLD are being naive thinking that the casual customers, or those that don't frequent message boards can't tell the difference between quality directors and their "replacements".
Espescially if they hope to produce the same content that their competitors are producing..I mean that's what made them special in the first place..They had arguably the most solid stable of performers and shooters under one house..Now..they get lost in the shuffle with companies like DVSX, Smash, Anarchy, and EXQ..
No offense to those parties but as a former clerk, and now a customer they have no brand power or distinction from one another. They appear on the shelves as just "Porn"
All of the above talk from the industry insiders makes the porn business sound no different than commercial production or the special effects feature business. Both are rat races where no company can stay on top for long. If you make any of them your career, save as much money as you possibly can. Don't think your career is going to last your whole life.
It's a common perception, even among porn consumers like you and me: I am not like the others, sure I watch porn but it's different. Actually, I disagree: obviously, only a minority of people think bangbus is real, the casual customer is..you and I, there's no evidence of a moronocracy ...I may be wrong Edited by - wodgers on 7/15/2007 10:41:28 AM
I want to say that the 2 new Plat X movies from Francesca Le I have seen recently (Munch Box and Mommy Fucks Best 2) where both incredible hot...I hope to see more Francesca Le DVDs.
