From a strict "free speech" perspective, I suppose it'd be tough to contest your scepticism; but, even acknowledging a polymorphous spectrum of fantasy as a healthy thing, I find the real-world implications kinda, I don't know, creepy .
I'm not generally prone to "wontyouthinkofthechildren" moral panic; but I'm not cool with eroticizing the pubescent.
I'm all for freedom of choice, and would never dictate to anyone past the age of consent what they can and cannot do. I don't have that right...no one here does.

I agree wholeheartedly. There should be a psych test before being allowed to do porn. The military requires one, so why not the adult industry?
An 18 year old doesn't have enough life experience to decide to get into this industry. They don't realize it will follow them forever and and effect every aspect of their lives, such as relationships with friends, family, significant others, neighbors (who'll have fun discussing the 'porn star living next door'), children, etc.
Obviously she's gotta earn a living. But you don't have to travel across world and do porn to make money.

I think it's to young. Most of the young girls are pretty much the same. Maybe it's age, but the best pornstars IMHO are the older ones [Teri Weigel, Janine, Julia Ann, Tera Patrick, Kylie Irelend, Savanna Samson, Harley Raine, Michelle Raven, Taylor Hayes, Taylor St. Claire, etc.]. The younger ones (18 - 25) seem to vanish pretty darn quick and do not have much that to makes them stand out.

Yeah, that's what bothers me much more, that many girls vanish too quickly. If they don't want to do it anymore, then they better quit the industry, of course. But it bothers me when they are simply replaced by new girls just because some people think we have seen them often enough. Maybe I'm an exception but I never seem to get enough from a girl I like. It's not that I buy that much videos but I can watch the same scenes over and over again. Why? This is a general statement of Melissa. When it comes down to earn your daily bread you can't always stick to your moral values. That's in porn just as in any other business.
I personally think it is becoming a problem. I also know that a huge percentage of fans (guys) want to see them. Most films these days seem to have some or mostly legal teens in them, or at least it appears that way to me. Those films seem to be flying-off-the-shelves, so I don't see it slowing down even a little bit. I don't find most 18-19 year old girls to be that sexual or sexually experienced, so I prefer more mature woman. You get more more over-all variety and quality sex from a more experienced female performer IMO. I suspect MO is in the minority though.
My only "real" problem with all the young girls, is that I think they could be talked into things easier or be manipulated easier then someone older might be.

I don't think the legal age should be raised to 21 though. While I don't think most legal teens are that sexual, there are clearly some who are. They should be allowed to work if they want to, I just wish the talent agents, companies, producers, and directors would show a little more caution and better judgement on who they hire. They don't have to hire every 18 year old that walks through the door, but it seems they will.
Porn is a huge life change that can have serious repercussions that a legal teen might not be prepared for. Once you do an adult film, its gonna stay with you the rest of your life. Our society hasn't evolved nearly enough to make their transition back into the civilian world any easier.
I didn't really want to quote VVG's post in its entirety but all of it makes sense and I feel pretty much the same way.
One of the aspects of this topic that really hasn't been addressed is the concept of 18 being the demarcation of "adult" and "minor". IMHO, that's a drawback to the "one size fits all" of morality laws. There are some girls who can handle sex at 18 -- or even younger. And there are those who can't handle it at 21 or 22 -- or even older.
Take Monica Lewinsky for example. In the eyes of the law she was a consenting adult. However, from what I read and interpreted (or mis-interpreted, if u disagree with my point) she could have benefitted from a 25 y/o consent law. And I think that a lot of women are like that.
At the other end of the spectrum there are those who are sexual earlier than 18 and handle it just fine. There's a lot of speculation about Traci Lords -- was she "happily" manipulated or not? But take Alexandra Quinn, who used fake ID to enter the biz before 18, was kicked out and then returned to porn after reaching that magic "18" number.
Now I realize I'm mixing two somewhat different situations, age-of-consent in general and the porn biz in particular, but it's hard to bring up known examples of the first to illustrate my point. Of course, I could bring up my brother-in-law who, at age 16 had to go to South Carolina to marry his 17 y/o girlfriend. They couldn't legally do it here in Georgia (the marriage, that is. And, of course the sex, LOL!)They handled it well. They're still married -- happily I might add.
On top of that, there's no practical alternative to these age-of-consent laws. I guess what I'm trying to say (in a very longwinded way) is that these laws are unfair to a small segment of the teen population. But you accept the unfairness to the minority in order to "protect" the majority. Of course, some people get burned...
Sorry, juha. somewhat different, yes. Totally different, no. Actually, the only difference is one is private the other takes place in front of a camera for commercial profit. Both use 18 as a demarcation line for legal sex.
