This may be a terrible question, as I don't know how the financial end of the business is run. I just recently joined that site, and see that it is basically just a souped-up version of the tube sites. Much better quality, and complete clips though. I see though that many of the top companies have channels that you can subscribe to in order to get scenes from their movies. Does this help to offset the losses from DVD sales?
No, since Videobox does not pay the studios very well. Except for the premium channels it's just a onetime fee the producer gets and it's not much. That's why you see mostly older material there. Jacco
i stumbled across this forum and remembered that i used to be a member years ago. so i just joined again. and yeah, quantity and (espeially) quality wise it is awesome. the problem is...that a lot, or should i say most of the stuff is on line for free. i will enjoy videobox for a month then cancel
At one point I actually thought pay sites like VIDEOBOX, FYRETV, etc., were going to help save porn because they offer a way to watch lots of porn from lots of different studios that you can buy/watch at the touch of a botton and saves people who like watching porn on their tv sets a easy alternative from driving to a pornshop to buy or rent or ordering movies through the mail. I also thought the future of porn was going to be streaming and downloading. Faster/easier delivery and from the porn studio end now they don't have to manufacture and ship DVDs and hope stores stock them. But all this fell apart because many people feel it's silly to buy or pay for something they can very easily get for free on the web.
I would have thought that this would be a good deal for the producers since old material is often ignored by people who are always seeking the new stuff. Isn't it harder to sell a lot of old stuff? Seems like they'd welcome it.

I don't really know why you guys keep thinking old materials only. Videobox has some very current movies including those from Evil Angel. Some that actually came out this year. Personally I think it is the best dvd porn site hands down. Can it save porn, I hope it does.
^^ Because the movies that you have to pay an extra subscription for don't count. If I wanted Evil Angel's movies, I'd rather join Evil Angel's site by itself than join the Evil Angel channel in Videobox. And even besides that the Evil Angel channel is actually the only one of the premium channels that consistently posts current movies. Truthfully, I'm not entirely sure that Videobox is going to be able to save itself, let alone porn in general. The death of the purely DVD production company means that most of the stuff it's going to be able to buy in the future will either be really old content, or content that's already been on the web for years.
Most of the stuff on VIDEOBOX from EVIL ANGEL is only a few months or in some cases a few weeks old. But the EA content requires an addition subscription. Not all of the movies in the basic subscription are "old" movies. Some are only a few years or less old. VB can't "save" porn because totally relies on porn that's been already made. For me personally it's added to my porn enjoyment because it's allowed me access to lots of movies, scenes, and performers I would've have seen otherwise. I don't mind that it's older material at all because much of it is new to me and I'm more into the girls so having acess to so much of their work is great. But if a person is into new content and certain studios VB probaly won't be the site for them. there are other sites that offer what they want. I know DVDs were a big deal and big money maker for many studios but for many people the abilty to get content instantly without going to a pornshop or ordering a DVD online is a great thing. I think the downloading/stream business model could've been profitable enough to sustain the porn biz if there wasn't so much illegal/free stuff out there.

Anyone willing to expose their computers to all the malware and viruses that the "free" sites expose you to, deserves any and every bit of it. Videobox serves a useful purpose. It's not an ultimate solution, but it does provide access to older titles that, for all intents and purposes, are permanently-out-of-print (and never likely to be available on DVD ever again). So, Videobox is helping to save parts of the collective back catalog, but not the "porn industry." IMHO, Videobox is only helpful, and does nothing to hurt the industry. The individual studios need to come up with better business models. I'm not about to pay $25/30 per month to every studio that interests me. Many titles that interest me are from smaller operations that don't have download memberships, or, if they do, just don't provide the depth and value that an Evil Angel or Elegant Angel do. IMHO, the studios need to consider working together to provide a comprehensive website that would provide in-depth and current content from three to five studios for no more than $50/per month (with a pay for 12-months at once discount available). FYI, all content should be available for DRM-free download to keep forever -- at the highest possible quality available. If not, I have absolutely zero interest. Also, studios should consider offering substantial discounts on physical media purchases (i.e. DVD, Blu-ray, etc.) for customers that maintain a current website download membership. It's not either/or. Companies need to find ways to package total value, to turn lookers into customers.
To me, VOD sites actually have the ability to allow this type of membership, but it's not something they look like they're willing to offer, unfortunately. Imagine if AEBN for example had a $30-$40 "all you can eat" model for streaming that also allowed for a certain amount of downloads each month. They have all the content to be able to do this (and usually get new stuff weeks/months after release instead of years), but I don't know how their payments to studios work so I doubt they ever will.
For the studios, VOD really isn't anything other than DVD-without-the-physical-medium, and it's priced that way, too. The VOD distributors are just another merchant. I can't imagine the bigger studios will ever be interested in collaborating on an all-you-can-eat style download site for current content - they've each got enough of a back catalog as sweetener to be able to make a go of it alone and keep the profits. For smaller studios it might be a worthwhile idea but of course the problem is always that the more people you try to agree on something the more difficult it gets. That's why VOD is the dominant sales path for downloads right now, because it just transfers the one-to-one relationship between studio and sales outlet to a different medium.
I use AEBN and think it's fair and reasonable business model. Their newest releases are at certain price point for renting and it reduces in price after movie is older and has been out awhile. You can "buy" streaming forever version of the movie for a good price that's less than buying the DVD. I know people get hung up on feeling they don't truly own a streaming movie but for all intents and purposes I feel the abilty to access that movie anytime you want is pretty much owning it. I don't think for a site like AEBN it would be fair have an "all you can eat" deal from the studio perspective because why would a top selling studio want to lump their sales in with a smaller far less selling studio ad do all the heavy lifting. I think each studio/movie should stand on it's own and reap profits based on their individual selling strength. The "all you can eat" model works for a site ike VIDEOBOX because it's offering up older movies with far less demand. Then there's something like FYRETV that offers something kinda in the middle where you can purchase new or old titles or just single scenes or a monthly access to a particular studio. There are various options out there but naturally the consumer is going to have to pay more for newer titles and/or the abilty to download and that's only fair.
^To answer this, I'll expand on what I said at the end as to why I don't think a site like AEBN would do it. The easiest way to actually do something like this for a VOD site is basically to only change the front end method of payments, and not the back end of how they pay the studios. Basically, they would still track minutes and pay studios based on that, and if you chose one of the studio's downloads as your free download for the month, the studio would still get paid the same amount as if you'd paid for it. Many studios would probably agree to something like this, but heavy users would probably cost the site so much money that this would never be profitable. What they would end up having to do is make it a similar to the current system pay structure for the "all you can eat" members, but with lower rates, or just give the studios that allow their movies to be in it a flat fee for each member that joins this way. The second option would probably attract many of the smaller companies, and the first option would at least get the bigger ones to consider it.

Streaming video doesn't interest me. IMHO, it's money down-the-drain. I'm interested in building a collection -- which means files on my computer and/or media that are mine to keep forever. So, to repeat myself, all content should be available for DRM-free download to keep forever -- at the highest possible quality available. Find a business model that makes this work, at a fair price to all involved, and a very healthy porn industry will re-emerge from the current "Internet-destroys-everything-it-touches" growing pains. People want porn! You will always have those that are stealing it. However, I'll be damned if I am going to spend my money buying and paying for porn legally, just so I can upload it to tube-sites for others to steal. I fail to see the attraction for this? IMHO, those that are involved in the stealing/uploading/dissemination of porn through file-sharing and tube-sites are never going to pay for product, as long as they can steal it. Never. More importantly, however, those of us who spend money for our porn have zero interest in stealing it. Really.
That's fine you feel that way and I kinda understand your point but luckily for the pornsites out there not everyone shares your attitude. I think most casual porn watchers don't feel the need to own if they have easy access to porn movies/scenes. They don't like DVDs piling up or having to take up harddrive space storing it on their computer. I'm sure there are people like you who need to be able to completely own their porn but I'd bet it's a fairly small number who refuse to stream for that reason. I don't think being able to download/own is that big a factor for most people and I don't think we'll see sites change to accomdate people who need to own.

I have been a member of Videobox for 4 years, since the premium Channels have been available for purchase the quality of the daily updates has declined. I an sure this is a ploy to encourage members to purchase the premium channels thus giving those studios greater return on the products. The marketing has worked, because I now include a premium channel in my subscription
^ There are other members who have the same theory but I really think that the current porn climate is the reason for the reason lower quality updates. There simply isn't as much porn being produced and I think most studios want more money for their higher quality stuff. With less porn being produced that means the porn well is slowly drying up. So it makes sense that they slowed down on their updating of the good stuff because if they dish it out at a rapid pace they'll be left with only lower quality stuff a lot sooner. The guys at VB have already said that at some point they simply won't be able to do 5 movies a day updates becaus of less porn being produced.
I was a member of VB, but the selection was limited and the split scenes were annoying. What if I want the whole movie? So I've gone over to AEBN, which has way more movies (for comparison, there are 15k movies in VB, 14k movies dedicated to anal alone in AEBN), full scenes, the option to purchase movies I really like and etc. I miss the comments on VB sometimes and I often wish there were more films or an alternative to AEBN.
I think split scenes is a plus, if you want the whole movie just download all scenes. I guess it wouldnt take much to also have the full movie as a download option tought. Also sometimes the split scenes are cut pretty bad and are missing stuff from beginning or end. Sometimes the movies are also missing scenes. But still overall i think split scenes is good. I'll tell you one way VB is saving porn. It was the first paysite I joined, and I really joined because it seemed like a great deal. I liked it so much, I have since joined 6 others.

^ What are the six other sites, and are you satisfied with them? Are they a good value for the money? Do they allow you to download to keep DRM-free files at high-quality levels?
You know i find this thread to be interesting. I was thinking about joining videobox to expand my collection, but now for the way you guys are talking about it, i don't know that it's worth it.
You can also get split scenes on AEBN. Fair enough, though, you don't get to keep them unless you buy the movie separately, but with $85 over 1,000 minutes I feel like I come out pretty ok especially since the content is way better.
First, I love Video Box's split scenes. It is definitely my favorite site- tons of content, easy to navigate and good customer service. Others: Tonight's Girlfriend- Not too good. NO DOWNLOADS. Very HD video, however.Warning: Several videos on this site crashed my computer. No other site did this. AVOID. Pure Mature- Great site. Phenomenal Stars and Photog. Negatives- Small amount of content, and only lists stars' first names. Not a problem for me, since I know the girls, but a pain if you are unfamiliar with them. Zero Tolerance/ 3rd Degree- Paying for either site gives you access to the other. Lots of content, easy to navigate. Includes a lot of older stuff, which I like, but others may not. Devils Film-Tons of content, since your membership also includes several partner sites (Daring Sex, Rocco, Peter North, etc.). Navigation is very easy, and finding scenes from your favorite stars is also easy. Jules Jordan-One of the best. Lots of great content, easy downloads, easy to navigate. Elegant Angel- Same comments as Jules Jordan. Edited by - SUCKER4NICETITS on 4/26/2013 8:57:24 AM
It's a great site in my opinion but it all comes down to what you want to see. If you need to see the latest movies it's not the site to join. If you like tons of movies from a wide range of studios and a wide selection of performers and like to have the abilty to download at a very reasonable price it's a great site. They have over 15,000 movies and of course there's a lot of them you'll have zero interest in but there's so much good stuff you don't need to worry about the stuff you don't want to see. The latest updates are dipping in quality but their library is so deep it will be a long while beore that becomes an issue. VB is usually at the top of most best site lists. You can unsubscribe at anytime. You should give it a try. VIDEOBOX isn't going to save porn but it's a good site for the money.
While I really enjoy the content I grabbed while I was recently a member, I have to say the email address I signed up with has been blown up with porn spam since I joined. Literally about 75 mails a week. None of my other accounts gets really any, and it started right after joining.
