Regular porn can't compete with VR, it's much better in every aspect, especially once Naughty America did it. Strange other big companies like Brazzers and Bangbros aren't doing a thing.
Your thoughts?

Yes it is definitely. I was lucky enough to tryout the HTC Vive with gameplay demos and it was fucking amazing. It totally trick your brain, it feels like you are actually in this virtual world. It is one of those things you cant look up in the internet, you have to make the experience yourself, put a VR headset (like Oculus Rift) on and see it with your own eyes.
Everybody who says this doesn't make porn better, never used a VR headset and has made this incredible experience. I mean there is a reason why facebook bought the Oculus Rift company for US$ 2 billion (!!), cuz this is true future shit.
But i also think Virtual Reality porn will be niche for a long time, because a lot of people cant afford these VR headsets also you need a pretty powerful pc. I know there are cheapier solution like google's cardboard but they aren't half as good as Oculus Rift or HTC Vive (dont know how Project Morpheus from Sony "feels").
Also the filesizes of the videos will be incredible huge. You need at least Full HD videos to get a good image and even with that you see pixels, because the displays are so close to your eyes.

Porn has a history of driving new technologies. The popularity of the VCR back in the 80s was due to porn. The steep growth in home high speed internet was driven by porn. Those Naughty America clips looked awesome. I may try that Google cardboard. I'd love to buy one of the more better VR viewers, but I'll wait until there's a decent sized software selection before I lay down my cash.

Virtual reality might work, if they combine it with a physical sex-doll. Because you need physical sensations to make it believable. But even with such a set-up, you would be limited in what you can do. Because kissing and cunnilingus would be out of the question with that thing on your face.
Just looking and hearing sounds works well only when the virtual reality is presented to you at a distance. If you want to get close and personal, then the sensation of physical contact is a must, or else the whole virtual reality simply doesn't work.

VR headsets like the Oculus Rift are amazing tools for computer games because the entire environment in computer games is more or less already virtual. The headset in those games can enhance the experience and add a new level of involvement to the game in large part because you aren't suck at looking at a fixed computer screen but the same can't be said for VR headsets and porn because the porn in question is not virtual. Any and all things you see through a VR headset is content that is already filmed so there is nothing virtual. It's not like you can watch a porn scene and move around the room at random and choose different angles to watch the action unless it was filmed.
I truly believe that one day porn like mainstream movies will be in a virtual world where the actors and sets are themselves virtual and the viewer will in fact be able to immerse him or her self into that virtual world and possibly even control the action but that is not for the near future. I don't think the current computer technology is there just yet.

It might get a footnote as the end of porn. The rising cost of energy, poverty, unemployment, homelessness, etc. will drive many American consumers away from the next generation of gadgets, but other nations that haven't yet blown their futures on wars and bullshit could have thriving VR markets for a while until electronic entertainment winds down and stops.

Naughty america tends to be first on the block when it comes to new tech, brazzers doesn't even have scenes in 4k and na has that as standard for all their scenes when most doesn't even have a 4k tv.
But when it comes to vr the whole point is that you can be part of the world you're in and that is much easier when it comes to games then movies.
So when you turn your head to the right the characther in the game turns his head the to the right, but I don't see the interactive part of it.
Now it looks like a high tech version of the interactive videos you got back in the day

Right now, what VR porn is (and yes, this is partially due to the limits of the technology right now) is the next logical step in POV porn. Which is okay, as POV porn is a niche that has survived pretty well over the years. As the tech gets better (and we're arguably talking more about the tech in terms of capturing it, not in terms of viewing it), we'll start to see the possibilities expand, and start seeing people shoot in third person, shoot 360 degree videos, and maybe someday, when someone gets locomotion reliably figured out in VR and the tech for capturing a 3D space gets remotely reasonable in terms of costs, even be able to walk around the scene and view it at different vantage points. But for right now it's a niche, and an interesting one. Whether or not it's "the future" depends on a lot of things that we can't reliably say if or when they will happen.

If you think the technology is not there yet, I suggest you google "Realtime Unreal 4 Tech Demo". It hasn't filtered down into porn yet because CGI is still driven by the one industry bigger than porn... Video Games.
I simply cannot wait for the day when you can pay a pervert artist to create your dream model, and then instantiate her in a movie "template" that you paid a Studio for.

But that's the thing... the technology is not there yet for what most people are hoping for with regards to VR porn.
While CG graphics are amazing, I've yet to see a CG "person" that I've mistaken for a flesh & bone human being. The graphics simply aren't there yet. Which means you're either stuck with fake looking actors, or you're stuck with real actors that you can't really interact with.
You can do single camera POV but we already have that and sticking a visor on your head to watch it doesn't improve the experience much. Yeah it's slightly more immersive but I'm never going to think I'm actually fucking Devon with the current technology. (And I suspect that's what most people are looking for)
The best you can hope for with current technology is still a scripted scene with the performers shot in "2.5D" where multiple angles are all shot at once and you can "move" virtually around the room (wherever the cameras are placed) but those cameras are still typically located in a single plane which means you can move around in 3D space but you can only do it in 2 dimensions. Basically you'll be able to walk around two people fucking (or maybe one chick masturbating) in the middle of the room, but you won't be able look down on them, or crouch down to have a look from below. Even getting closer to the action is going to involve a digital (not optical) zoom which looks bad in most cases.
People generally don't like gimmicks and the VR stuff just seems to scream gimmick. It's an extension of 3D and you've seen what a dud that turned out to be in the marketplace. It was a technology that had "porn" written all over it, and it didn't even succeed in this market. I don't see VR (with anything vaguely close to current technology) being any better.

The trick to most of what you just said is that the problems are tech problems that not only can be solved, but arguably are solvable right now with enough money. In the ideal situation for VR porn, it stays around as a niche while people (primarily Hollywood, to be honest) work at figuring out how to make getting around these limitations affordable.

^ When the cost of shooting "proper" VR Porn is so high that buying a scene will cost more than hiring the actress yourself as an escort, then no, it isn't solvable with enough money. Money doesn't change the practicality of what you're trying to accomplish and it's wildly impractical right now. It's not just a matter of "if you have enough money you can do it" it's a matter of "it doesn't matter how much money you have because you won't make a profit" right now.
The graphics for a completely rendered experience simply don't exist right now, at least not in a manner that is believable. CGI "people" look like cartoon characters. If they didn't Hollywood actors would already be out of business.
Shooting real performers in a true 3D interactive manner requires more equipment than any porn studios could afford and still leaves you with the problem of interactivity. You're either stuck observing a linear story take place from the "sidelines" or you can interact with the scene which presents its own set of problems, mainly how that interaction is going to take place without jolting you out of your virtual world (taking of your VR mask to type at your keyboard doesn't exactly keep the mood going) Voice control is still far from perfect, and even if you solve that problem and come up with an effective way to interact with your virtual world from within, scene cuts are going to be far from seamless (which again, is just a reminder that what you're experience isn't real)
And even if you solve all of those problems, you still need some place to put your dick. (by god if I'm going through all of that other bullshit to get off, I'm not jerking my own cock)
Most people are hoping for the holodeck. What can be done today is still a lot closer to this.

I'm not saying that the tech coming down in price to the point where it's reasonable for a porn shoot to have it is going to happen this year or next year. I'm talking 5-10 years from now, if we're being fairly honest here. When we're talking that timeframe, the fact that the issues are generally solvable with technology that exists right now means that what you would need to wait on is the parts going down in price, and considering that the parts are generally sensors and processors and cameras, the parts will go down in price as technology moves forward like it always does. Which is why I said it needs to find it's niche and stay there (and right now, that's basically as an extension of POV porn, and maybe some experimentation with a fixed third party viewpoint) until such a time where the tech does get there. And even then it's not a guarantee, as the industry as it currently stands is having problems with getting people to pay for content in the first place, and at least right now this isn't looking like the type of thing that's going to be easy to stream from a tube site.
Edit: And the experience doesn't have to be "perfect" to be the future. VHS wasn't perfect as a delivery platform (DVD proved that), and neither was DVD for that matter (most would argue the internet has proven that). They were still the future because they were still better than what came before them. So the question is whether or not this is better than what we currently have, and I don't think we have the definitive answer to that question now, and we probably won't for at least another year or two. And even then, there's going to be people that prefer the other way for their own personal reasons (there's still a good amount of people that prefer DVDs to internet downloads right now).

Considering that porn features died because it was cheaper and sold as well to make gonzo I can't see VR porn being financially viable, even 20 years from now.

^^ You're taking a few things for granted that I'm just not willing to accept. You seem to be under the impression that everything always goes down in price over time and that simply isn't true. Even if you take away inflation, cars for example have continued to go up in price, over the years, especially on the bottom end. The reason is that over time what has been acceptable on the bottom end has changed faster than the price of raw materials has dropped. Cars now include even in the base models things like air bags, air conditioning, power steering, antilock brakes, etc. Cameras are another thing that don't necessarily do down in price over time as the capabilities of cameras are changing at a similar pace to the technology which keeps the price fairly steady. In the case of doing multi-positional 3D it's not just a matter of having better cameras, its an issue of having more cameras, and I see no reason why buying more cameras is going to end up a reasonable expense in the porn world.
The thing is pretty much every argument you've made for why VR porn will be coming in 5-10 years could have been made 5-10 years ago and we're not really any closer than we were then. And while I'm sure there are people that are willing to accept a less than perfect rendered version of porn (anime fans for example) the point for most people I suspect is realism, and I don't think we're 5-10 years away from a realistic experience yet. It's still going to feel like some hack-kneed gimmick which isn't going to interest most people.
But perhaps we're just talking about different things. I've explained why I don't see various experiences being up to par or commercially feasible, but maybe I've missed something. Can you describe the user experience that you think will be the future of VR porn? If I'm a VR porn consumer 10 years from now, what am I going to see/hear/feel, and how are those sensations going to be delivered to me?

I agree with you that the gaming and computer technology has been capable for some time to create realistic porn games. But the fact that no such game has been created so far should tell you that the barrier to porn gaming isn't technology. The barrier is the rules, the laws, and the inhospitable social atmosphere for making porn.
Porn-workers and porn-companies get cut off from doing or making anything else, besides porn. They basically "ruin their reputation" by making porn. And from that time on, they have to stay in the porn industry.
This is what gaming companies and individual workers are probably afraid of. They will get ostracized from the the rest of the tech community, and they might not be able to do anything else, besides porn after they make their first popular porn game.
Some people would probably take such a risk anyway, if there was some history of porn-games making a lot of money. But no one has done this so far. Which makes it even more risky.
A part of the problem for making porn-games is that people naturally want sex to be close and personal, close enough to touch and to feel. And this isn't something a computer game can give you. You need to make it work at a distance, the way 1st-person-shooter games do. Which means that you need invent a new sex-genre to make something like this work.

What you're saying here and what I just said are actually both true, and not mutually exclusive. To use your car analogy, a 2012 Honda Accord can cost less on release than a 2013 Honda Accord, and the same thing can happen in 2014 and 2015. But the price of that 2012 Honda Accord will go down over the same period. To bring this specifically back to cameras, I'll use the Canon 5D Mark II and Canon 5D Mark III. The 5D Mark III costs between $2,000 and $2,500 if you try to purchase it right now, which is about the same as the 5D Mark II did if you tried to purchase it at about the same time period after it's release (2008 to 2011 versus 2012-2015). But if you wanted to purchase a 5D Mark II in that time period after the 5D Mark III released and before the supply of new 5D Mark II dried up, you could have gotten it for around $1700 to $2000, and as low as $1500. And if you wanted to buy a camera with similar specs to the 5D Mark II right now, it would surely cost less than what the 5D Mark II cost a few years ago. This is even more evident in the more consumer oriented lines of DSLRs, where there tends to be more stock out there and you can buy new versions of even older cameras for much cheaper than they cost at release.
To say that we're no closer than we were 5-10 years ago than we are now when 5 years ago there wasn't a commercially available device to actually watch VR on is disingenuous at best.
In 5-10 years, we'll have absolutely better screens that will offer a higher resolution and refresh rate. We'll probably have things like foveated rendering and eye tracking figured out, so that rendering will be able to focus on what your eye is looking at and focus more of the computing power on rendering that part of the image as clearly as possible and dialing back the detail on the things in your peripheral vision (that's going to be more important for simulations, but can still have some importance when it comes to replaying videos). We'll probably have processing done on the device itself instead of tethering it to a PC or console of some sort (basically as mobile processing power increases, stuff like Gear VR will be more capable on rendering what is necessary on its own without the help of a large terminal). Teledildonics is actually a problem that was generally solved YEARS ago (remember RealTouch?), it's just that the market wasn't there at the time and most of the companies either got out of that business or went out of business altogether. I wouldn't be that surprised to see a company try to revive that in the next year or two. I'm not of the opinion that it's ever going to be a "perfect" experience (just as a simple example, there's more to sex than genital to genital contact), but I think that a "good enough" experience is entirely possible in the next 5-10 years.

^ Prices dropping in used equipment still doesn't necessarily make the cost feasible for porn studios. As you mentioned, with a limited supply of pro grade equipment out there, the prices tend not to fall as much and when you're talking about shoots that could require dozens of cameras, the supply and demand issue will start to crop up. If multiple studios start pursuing this with used equipment the supply will quickly shrink and the prices will go up accordingly. but like I said before, just because you can get the cameras cheaper doesn't mean that the cost is feasible for studios.
Don't forget that 3D was supposed to be the next big thing in home entertainment and that ended up a failure for the most part because people simply didn't want to be bothered to wear a pair of glasses. That's a rather unobtrusive piece of apparel that people were simply too lazy to deal with. The more equipment you require the user to strap into the less likely it is to succeed. Holographic projection has a much better chance of success because it doesn't require a change in how you consume the material. You sit back on your couch and watch it.
And no, with regards to graphics, I don't think we're any closer to rendering a realistic human being than we were 5 or 10 years ago. While it doesn't have to be perfect, it does have to be a believable facsimile and there was 0% of consumer hardware capable of rendering a believable person 10 years ago, and there is 0% of consumer hardware capable of rendering a believable person today. I'd hardly call that progress.
As the technology progresses we'll almost certainly see porn play a role in it, but for the foreseeable future I think porn VR will be a niche/gimmick, and not a significant part of the market. Looking more long term I think that VR will become more mainstream as the tech improves and doesn't require strapping anything to your head. (or anywhere else) And as that happens porn will make the shift accordingly. People generally try and give porn all the credit for driving innovation but it generally does that within the confines of what mainstream technology has already done. Yeah, porn helped build the internet but only because PCs had become mainstream. Yeah porn helped the VHS and DVD to become popular, but only because people already had television on which to watch them. People by and large don't buy specialized porn equipment. They buy standard consumer goods that can be used to consume porn. While VR sets might be popular with gamers, they aren't going to be a mainstream consumer device like a DVD player, so the likelihood of being adopted as a porn delivery device is much smaller than some people seem to think.

My point was that the bar for being "good enough" is significantly lower than the point where it's indistinguishable from reality. Think of all the stupid shit that men have jacked off to through the ages :) It's already good enough if it brings something else that is a worthwhile innovation. It'll just take a non-engineer who doesn't care about CUDA core count to come up with the killer app, if you will.

^Is it?
I think all evidence is to the contrary at least for mainstream porn. The vast majority of what people jerk off to looks just like real people because it is real people. Yeah there is a small segment that jerk it to animated tentacle porn but most people want to watch real people in their porn.
The big thing that people seem to point to when talking about VR porn is the ability to "interact with" (aka "fuck") real people that you couldn't otherwise do that with. That has its own set of problems because famous people aren't likely to license their image to be defiled, so you still aren't going to be able fuck Kate Upton. But even if you have porn chick and random "10's" license their image most people are still going to want a lifelike reproduction.
Until they look realistic, they are just cartoon characters, and I believe there is a very limited market in virtual cartoon fucking. It could see modest success, but that sort of thing isn't going to be mainstream. And if we're talking "future of porn" then I think being mainstream is sorta implied there.

Goldstein has very little interest in Virtual Reality scenes.
In fact, if NaughtyAmerica keeps releasing more-and-more scenes as VR -- which are unwatchable, as far as I know, without a VR setup -- I will likely drop my annual membership when renewal time comes around.
I can't tell you how many times a NA scene looked good to me, only to find out I couldn't even preview the scene due to it being VR

Without wearing some kind of all over VR body suit your still going to be dependant upon yourself for physical stimulation. Ok you may be able to walk about the set and peer in at some particular angle that appeals to you but its argueable if anyone actually want to do that , most people just want to pull up a seat and watch the show.
Or if the intention is for some kind of interactivity where you can talk with the performers and tell them what to do its going to be super difficult to make that work.
I prefer the idea of artificial life-forms as virtual reality, like in the film ex-machina. Obviously there are ethical and technical questions about cloning and bio engineering but fundamentally what is the difference between having sex with a blow up doll and having sex with a robot.

if it sounds, looks, and feels more real than what we have now, then why not get into it.
you can't tell the actresses what to do through your flat screen either.
if they can combine the virtual world with live webcams, even better. this may work out better than the recorded stuff.
in the early 80's we used to get high off of the magazines, there is no way i can be visually stimulated by those pictures today after being able to watch recorded sex acts on a big clear tv.

Allow me to solve the future for us. (Yes).
You know how all of porn is currently shot in that one house? Well the future will be much the same, only the location will shift to a new high tech facility which everyone will take turns renting in order to gain access to that advanced studio's Latticework of holographic capture cams. Using this 360 degree surround system to film porn will make it renderable into that virtual environment you guys are talking about, because every angle you need for true immersion into a virtual sex world will have been captured simultaneously. If you insist on having the fuckers fuck on awkward furniture like a washer & drier, you can then add those details into the scene afterwards using holographic green screen type tech. Or add in a beach or a crowded bus, etc. The software will come complete with auto-adjusters to correct for distance and perspective, etc., so the sex won't look photo-shopped but totally real as if they WERE on that crowded bus.
As seen in Elysium the movie, some pockets of civilization will sustain the ability to keep the tech advances going higher and higher. Other regions will be stuck filming each other naked, the same as we do in the olden days of now. The more advanced principalities will probably make it illegal for any actual human to be filmed naked, because that kind of work will be seen as unfit for anyone born of DNA, instead it'll be reserved for the subhuman community of virtual sluts born of pixels. These virtual sluts are more flexible and exist as templates that can be sent into anyone's brain. Keeping this fresh and exciting, however, is where real human men and women might still come into play---as the inspiration for each new "skin" these virtual sluts will possess. A sampling of a person's build and their "fiesty" nature can be taken using the future's motion capture equipment, and then that info can be fed into the pixel-slut template to inform it with "personality." This means you won't have to actually sneak a vid of Cindy Crawford having sex and then try to create a virtual reality Cindy out of that, because the sex-having robo template is already ready to go and just needs a dusting of Cindy's "spirit" info in order to complete a very real mockup of the supermodel working her hips on your cock.
In fact it will be impossible to film a real person naked in an advanced part of the world, because as part of our ongoing push to avoid all pain and embarrassment our skins will have a vid-defeating reflective property sewn into us so our bodies only appear as blurs on video camera footage. This will end the "abuse" of real humans in the sex trade, and eventually every cell of everyone's DNA will have built in locators & auto-alarm options to prevent anyone from being sex trafficked.

A "holodeck" would be the ultimate solution, but that's not happening anytime soon

That's the only way I can see it VR becoming the future of porn in general. The concept of VR porn is a good one but technical limitations of today limit it to just being the next step of POV.
Until you can overcome the obstacles and of sensation and dizziness/motion sickness, I doubt VR is going to the next step in porn as a whole any time soon.

VR with those stupid goggles are not the future of porn. That is still restricted to visuals only.
The ultimate for porn would be something like the technology you saw in the movie Brainstorm (1983) where Christopher Walken's character invents a system of recording and playing back actual experiences of people. They do a demo where suits are all experiencing a ride taken on a rollercoaster for example. They also experience tasting food etc. And of course there was a scene in that movie where guy records his brainwaves while fucking some chick and another guy steals the tape and plays it back at home. It would be the killer product not just for men but for women also. BTW that was Natalie Woods last movie before she died.

an interesting and very pessimistic article about the future of virtual reality.
It doesn't talk of porn, but reading this it seems very difficult that the nauseating effect that one has using those 3d devices can be avoided.
And it's difficult to see the urge to puke as something that can be combined to the pleasureable experience that porn should be.

First of all, that's not an article, that's from a user-submitted Q&A site (users ask questions, and other users answer them). There's other users below him whose answers aren't as damning as his.
Second, and this is more important, even he himself states that this isn't as much of a problem if you're only watching for a few minutes, but the longer you're in there, the worse it can get. Most people are only watching porn for a few minutes at a time. So in terms of the effect of what he's saying on VR porn, it's not as bad as you're thinking. And on top of that, he also states that much of the problem comes from your eyes telling you that you're moving when the rest of your body tells you it isn't, which is another problem that VR porn doesn't have because, for the most part, the body (and more importantly, the world around it) doesn't move.
I think that VR stuff will be a sizable niche in the future, just like POV is a sizable niche now. I don't think it's going to be the only thing around, or that everyone is going to move to it exclusively.

an average scene is thirty minutes long, and often a lot longer than that.

How often do you actually watch a scene all the way through in one sitting? The truth is that the average person watches a scene long enough to get off, and then stops.

would really like to see something done with the MS HoloLens beyond projecting it on the walls around you and only you can see it :) Imagine bringing a pornstar (or 3) into the room with you without having to put something on your face that takes away the rest of the world. I think it is about as close to the holodeck as we are going to get for a while.
