Of all the adult studios, Wicked strikes me as the most enigmatic. In particular, two things they do kill the modern porn fantasy. (1) They require condoms for all scenes. (2) They encourage breast augmentation for nearly all their female talent - the most ridiculous recipient, of course, being Keri Sable. Don't they get it? The direction of porn is towards fresh, young and uninhibited. Meanwhile, Wicked seems intent on remaining rooted in the 1980s. They shouldn't even deal in DVDs. Their content is reminiscent of something that belongs on a Betamax cassette.
Maybe you don't. While I don't like implants at all, every new busload of new porn stars has implants. Implants never go out of style in porn. Implants don't keep would be porn stars out.
The trend of gonzo is uninhibited and fresh. Features, on the other hand, tend to have established porn stars and are more restrained.
Vivid in the last decade has had all their new stars get implants.
If you look at Keri Sable, it looks like she already had some cosmetic surgery before she came into the buisness. The implants came later, but some just like augmenting. So it may not have been Wicked at all.
Not a big fan of bushes, Racquel Darrian's first movies were in the 80ies - not a complete bush, but hair nicely trimmed. Not a fan of augmentation, but remembering Racquel Darrian, I can live with augmentation.
When I have finally secured my position as the leader of the universe, I will have to make tough decisions like whom I will feed to my lovely leopards and cuddly ocean white tips.
Probably I will find another use for the cast of the generic Wicked movie cast than live chicken food, but the cast of "Fresh, Young and Uninhibited" seems to be fine for use as live chicken food.
I won't even feel bad for feeding them to my pets.
I mean at least I don't send them to the veneral disease lottery and let them rot in trailer parks when they have lost their "Fresh, Young and Uninhibited"-status after they have done three scenes.
Me thinks my use of this human material is much more human and moral. *sigh* What a benevolent tyrant I am gonna be.
Wicked's definitely not out of touch with me. I spend my hard earned buck mostly on Wicked stuff.
We can discuss what went wrong at Vivid. Once they were the one and only company in classy porn. Now they are not even close to Wicked and DP. But the condom policy and the breast enhancements aren't Vivid's problem, just as they are no problem at Wicked and DP.

Yes and no. Not for the reasons that you mentioned. I have no problems with condoms in porn. I'm not a fan of augmentation but if that is what the actresses want, they should go for it. Wicked used to be one of the leaders in DVD as far as adult went. They've been slipping over the years, non-anamorphic transfers. The same old extras on several discs. I recently just picked up Lovers Lane and Camp Cuddly Pines Powertool Massacre but I haven't had a chance to find out if they suffer the same problems. Film wise though Wicked still continues to be a powerful force.
Plots and condoms aside, at least Vivid gives you a few Bonus Scenes with their featured contract star. So if I'm watching a Savanna Samson film, I also get to see a few of her other scenes from other films. Gotta give Vivid their due here.
They may be out of touch with you but the last time I checked Wicked still was a porn powerhouse. It is funny how people say vivid and Wicked are out of touch with their fanbase but still are formidable porn companies.

I also find that the porn starlets for Wicked and Vivid all have the same hair-styles. It's as if there's a hairstyle requirement in their contracts. It would be nice to see a bit of imagination and variety for a change. And, yes, I agree with the original poster that condoms are a turn-off, and one of the reasons I don't watch much stuff from either company.
I can pretty much assure you that the condom thing is for legal reasons, not to protect the talent or to send some sort of safe-sex message. All most all performers in adult are really employees, not independent contractors of the studios and therefore, if someone were to catch something horrible, they could file a workcomp claim against the studio.
As a requirement to be able to secure the necessary insurance, they might have been required by the insurance company to use condoms. Not sure about this one though.
I've tried to restrain myself from replying to this post, but here we go...As I've said many times before: Everyone likes something different. If you don't like my movies (Wicked movies, that is), then don't watch them. I know for a fact that the company is not out of touch with porn fans. The company continues to grow and make more money every year which is a direct result of the consumer enjoying the product. The numbers don't lie. As a director for Wicked (and Stormy Entertainment in the very near future) I recognize the need to keep the sex "fresh and uninhibited" and I work very hard to do just that. The condom thing is a touchy subject. I agree that they sometimes take away from the fantasy. But as an industry leader, it is Wicked's standard to promote safe sex...even when they come under fire for it. The owner of the company truly does care about this. It has nothing to do with insurance. And as I performer, I am thankful every day that I work in a safe (relatively speaking, of course) enviroment. My health is not worth any job. I certainly understand your argument though. And lastly, Keri Sable was NOT asked to get a boob job. As a matter of fact, Wicked tried to discourage her. In the end, it is HER body and HER choice. I know, without a doubt, that Wicked has NEVER told any girl to get any work done. Both of our new contract girls are all natural. Kaylani, Missy, Stephanie Swift, and Temptress never had implants. And those of us with them, had them before we were signed. Keri is the one exception. And trust me, when she makes up her mind that she is going to do something there is no stopping her. Keri is a very determined young lady! LOL!
Steve Hirsch and Steve Orenstein are millionaries many times over. Trust me, lots of people are buying Vivid and Wicked movies. What they lack in "gonzo" spontaniety they more than make up for in production values and they provide a touch of class to an industry that's largely viewed as a cesspool of amateur hacks. Say what you will about their "stroke value" but NONE of the current crop of gonzo directors, myself included, could shoot features on par with Michael Raven, Jonathan Morgan or Brad Armstrong. A wide angle lens, available light and a girl in fishnets walking up a staircase doesn't quite cut it when you're actually trying to make a "movie".
Don't get me wrong. I'm not knocking anyone here. Personally I think story-driven porn is largely pointless considering that the main reason porn exists is to get a guy from point A to point B as quickly as possible but I greatly respect the talent of those involved in making it and I certainly believe that it has a relevant place in porn as a whole.
Anyway, my two cents on the topic is that Wicked is completely in touch with the people who buy and enjoy their product and that's all that really matters isn't it?
Well,Coming from an industry perspective and a consumer that loves gross things;I will always push aside feature film crap for harder edge Gonzo smut. I admit Vivid and the other softercore studios that offer a more glamerous fluffy version side of Porno serves well in the couples genre, and as a front face to Porn for the public at large. To me a true raincoater;I believe a Performer reaches her appex or pennicle in her career during her stint in Hardcore Gonzo because they are giving the Fans what they want to see. Often times it can be a let down to see a Fresh looking natural breasted female fulfill every jackers perverted desires in Gonzo;to ultimatley graduate to Barbied up Glam dolls with balloon breast that cant convey a script. This is why once a Girl goes contract;I immediatly refer to her pre-contract days to get my nutt off. Surely! Any true panty sniffer would rather see there favorite starlet Fucking a mediocer fuck puppet;and shit cum out her ass; instead of watching her trying to act;then do a condom scene with a guy that looks like Fabio.
I always enjoyed working in Gonzo and for Feature movies. I love the hardcore gonzo scenes but I also enjoy filming the acting and dialog in a feature.
It was just another witless troll post. None of us should have responded. The points we all made are pretty obvious to anyone who's genuinely interested in the topic.
Honest, open information helps, so why not? I am given to understand that some in the porn industry monitor some of the forums here, but don't participate. Well if you (genereal) want less misconceptions floating around, posts like yours are the way.
There are many here that enjoys your products including myself. To me it seems like the majority of the writers here are gonzofans. And so be it, nothing wrong with that. But it`s important for me to state that there are in fact readers and writers here that like watching something else than 30 minutes of constant anal pounding or Bakers Dozen.Keep up the good work, Stormy.
I think that this would be a smaller problem if you integrated the condoms in the story.
Today's use of condoms in porn often is shot in a way that I get the feeling the director thinks while shooting: "Sorry guys, I know condoms are a turn-off but its the company's policy and we have to deal with it."
Stormy, perhaps you can change this in the next film you direct. Condoms really utilized instead of just used. The safe sex message would come across better this way too. Audiences only get a message if they get the feeling that the director really stands behind this message.

Makes no difference to me.

A little, and not for the reasons you state. I don't really care one way or another about condoms, but I wish every studio would leave it up to the performers rather than dictating to them whether or not they'll be used. That way they can both stand for safe sex as well as individual freedom and responsibility. The breast augmentation argument is amusing at best and I don't think it has a single toe-hold let alone a foothold in reality.
As to the rest, I really like that they chose women over girls and that they look for performers who more often than not can act as well as fuck. As to why I think they're lacking or not using their full potential... as Flash said there's the non-anamorphic transfers (although Polarity was anamorphic so hopefully this is changing) and the extras not being what they used to.
As for the sex, yes, I do think that it lacks a bit. I say that not just comparing it to gonzo porn but also as somebody who's watched quite a few Wicked movies over the last five or ten years. Over the last year or so, Wicked's movies have seemed like they've gotten shorter, and often given me the feeling that there was a lot of pressure to shorten things up. I think MLyons said it best in his Camp Cuddly Pines review when he said "the sex felt very edity, and had the strong sense of having been chopped up significantly. This left most of scenes feeling a little cold and impersonal with not a lot of real heat generated anywhere.". I think I've commented several times that the movies seemed like another ten or fifteen minutes would have really solidified things, both for the sex and the plot. I agree with some of what the Quaze said, and I do agree that the sex is the main point to a porno. At the same time I disagree with him as I think a well done feature will give more substance to the sex as well as making the entire project something much more. With guys like Morgan, Armstrong, Raven, and Stanley as well as lovely ladies Stormy and Devinn Lane there's little doubt that Wicked has one heck of a great roster of feature directors in their stable, but lately it seems like they've pushed the sex to the back burner rather than giving it the attention that the non-sex portions of the movie receive.

Well said! And a big Thanks for including me on the roster of Wicked directors. Because I am still performing, I am often overlooked as a director/writer. (I won 2 directing awards this month!) I just re-signed with the company for four more years and my new contract will have me directing LOTS more! For those of you who think the sex has been lacking in Wicked movies, I ask that you please check out my movie "Second Thoughts". I think you will be very surprised. I have made it personal mission to up the sex in the movies I direct. I also agree that the scenes are often too short. I fixed this problem in my next release "Private Eyes" (coming out in december) by extending the scenes significantly and eliminating all unnecessary edits. One of the scenes has NO cuts, much like a good gonzo scene, and very unusual for a feature. Incorporating condom use into the scene instead of just having them magically appear is another idea I had recently and will be trying to do from now on. I starred in a movie for Michael Raven 2 weeks ago and I insisted on having them shoot me putting the condom on the guy. I will admit it was a little awkard (I had never done it before and starting laughing) but I think it makes the scene more real and believable. I will be trying to do this whenever possible from now on. Thanks for the feedback and I am always open to suggestions and constructive critism!
Not a problem on including you as a director as I've been hearing some very nice things about the work you've done behind the camera. I've also normally liked the stories in the movies you've scripted for Wicked. Making the condoms an actual part of the scene is great, and something studios should have started doing long ago.
Hmmm. There was something about Second Thoughts that made me pass on picking it up when I saw it first came out, but since it sounds like you're very happy with that one I will definitely check it out. I'll also make sure to check out Private Eyes when it comes out in a couple months.
Constructive feedback is no problem, as I think giving alternates makes one part of the solution rather than part of the problem. Thanks for listening in an attempt to improve your movies.

I still find it bizarre that Keri Sable would suddenly want a boob job. Up until April, all her interviews suggested that she would never mess with her boobs. Now, there's that weird video clip where Keri (sporting purple hair) proclaims that she's always wanted breast augmentation.
I'm predicting disaster, since this surgery is barbaric. In order to insert the implant, the "doctor" either: (1)slices the tissue under the breasts, thereby leaving heinous scars that never really disappear, or (2) temporarily detaches the nipples and then sews them back on, which has to be one of the most disgusting things anyone can voluntarily ask to be done to their own body. Oh yeah, there's one last method. You can insert a rod through the belly button up under the skin all the way into the chest. The implant unfurls out of the rod. Yeah, that sounds like fun. These are all disgusting acts of butchery.
Great news. The future looks bright for us Stormy fans. Its very smart that you made the step behind the camera so early in your career. Very often female performers make the move to directing too late in their career when the support of their fans and their company is already in decline. But I think you have the time to try different things out and develop into a real porn auteur who will provide us with great films long after your career in front of the camera is over.
Interesting title, is this going to be a film noir spoof?
Thanks. That's great. Keep on the good work. Show us all how a condom can enhance the fun.
I have another question on condom use in Wicked films. In "Just One Look" real life couple Nicole Sheridan/Voodoo plays a married couple on film. Why doesn't Wicked waive the condoms in the case that couples have sex? The condoms don't bother me at all. I'm just curious.
I thought it was strange that Keri suddenly wanted to have her breasts done too. She was pretty adamant about not wanting to do it before. I was actually present as the higher-ups were trying to talk her out of it though, so I know it was entirely her idea. Anyone who has EVER been in a relationship with a woman knows we like to change our minds alot and without warning. :) LOL! And by the way, that's not the only ways to have the procedure done. I challenge anyone watching my movie to find my scars.
I think Wicked is trying to be fair about the condom policy. When I asked if Pat and I could go without in our scenes (we were married)the owner didn't want to open the floodgates of everyone saying "you let them...." Looking back, I can understand that.
Yes, I've noticed that too. For example "Neighbors". Great script, witty dialogue, but it shows that it was shot under time pressure. Two more days of shooting and it would have been a great feature.
Perhaps I'm wrong. But it seems like Michael Raven, Stormy and Devinn have to struggle with tighter budgets and schedules than the long time Wicked directors Brad Armstrong and Jonathan Morgan. They both seem to have more financial freedom to realize their creative vision than the other Wicked directors.
In features I happen to like shorter sex scenes, that way it doesn't screw with the continuity and fluidity of the story. If they're long they start to feel like a separate entity from the plot, a "commercial break" as another ADTalker so eloquently stated.
Shorter scenes also mean all the dead (boring) areas can get edited out, as it's often difficult to sustain the heat and make it progress smoothly.
Heres a suggestion: If the sex scenes are too be lengthened, try to keep the actors in character still- somehow- by having them allude back to the storyline through dialogue/dirtytalk. Some good examples of this are Teagan/Devon/Evan in "Pirates" and Nicole/Voodoo in "Whats a Girl Gotta Do." This way the sex becomes an integrated part of the storyline instead of feeling out of place and just thrown in for the sake of getting another scene.
I like the condom idea though! I like when a girl rolls it on with her mouth- sexy
When people own their own company, it's normally kind hard for others to pick them up. With VCA's changes Antonio Passolini might be a better question...
