| LegalizeHooks Member 6 Posts 1/10 | Are you guys aware of the best and most efficient DVD Cataloging Software that utilizes IAFD info? I've tried Movienizer but it seems like trying to input my DVD collection and populate it with detailed information will be quite a chore. I've likewise tried Personal Video Database and All My Movies neither of which appear to be the answer. I think the optimal solution would be a DVD cataloging software specifically designed for adult movies (the ones I mentioned are all purpose with adult movies included among all other genres). If you are aware of such a software package, I'd love to know about it. Additionally, any chance that UPCs will be added to the IAFD or is it too late to back fill the large population of records? Thanks again. [Link] |

| Jeff @ IAFD Webmaster IAFD.COM 931 Posts 6/00 | (Does it defeat the purpose of UPC codes? Certainly. Porners don't seem to care.) Anyway, one of these days we'll add it. To answer your first question -- we don't support any database program using our data past our own website. That said, we're aware of one that does scrape our site and try to make some use of it, and we (so far) haven't done anything to discourage it. We did try to reach out to the developer to work on an API, but they weren't interested. DVDPedia for the Mac: http://www.bruji.com/extras/iafd.html |
| LegalizeHooks Member 6 Posts 1/10 | Is there any chance CSV files of titles and actress filmographies could be exported and made available to the public for import into any old DVD cataloging software? I'm afraid my adult DVD collection is close to numbering around 1,000 so any efficiencies compared to keying the info I can pick up by using someone's existing data would be much appreciated!! Incidentally, I've been involved in some retail manufacturing ventures and those damn UPC's are expensive!! I think it's something like $5k to $10k up front for a pretty big block of numbers that would exceed what most studios publish in a year so I'm certain the redundant UPC you've scene is another effort to keep production costs down. |

Just say no. 7564 Posts 11/02 | I can understand your wish to have easy access to data to import into your private database, but I must say it also grates on me a bit. The IAFD staff has been working on entering the data for free, day in day out. You can consult the data for free as well. I have no problem with that at all. But I have to draw the line at giving away the data itself to use in whatever capacity for free. I have worked too many hours on the database to allow that. Really, this is the line where I have to demand that I am being paid for all the data entering I have done so far. No harm in asking and no offense intended. And if Jeff decides it is a go, that's the final word on this anyway. Just letting you know how I feel about this. p.s. Also I have been thinking about the following. I am sure your intentions are pure and your motives are honest, but I have had bad experiences with several guys who tried to charm me to give them access to my private database for free. Only to find out some months later that these guys have started their own on-line porn(star) databases. Data on IAFD has been copied and 'borrowed' for use on so many platforms without any kind of mention of IAFD, that I really don't think it's a good idea to give even easier access to the data than we do now. |

| LegalizeHooks Member 6 Posts 1/10 | I did say CSV because that would be the quickest way for me to get organized but I'd be happy to defer my project of straightening up my porn filled office if you told me there was a cataloging product in your pipe line that was in development. Remember, even if you did hand out a spreadsheet with the data I'd have to buy the software from somebody else to input the data so I'd be out the $30 anyway. Obviously I'd much rather give my money to you then some other company since we share a common interest in adult films!! Still, having the data would only be partially satisfying. I'm sure you're familiar with Videobox.com and if you've ever been on the site, you've noticed their recommended video feature which is based on a member's viewing trends. I think that's a great idea and when I first started looking for some cataloging software, I had this end in mind - that is, I would be able to sync up my database with the vendor to get info updates and at the same time share with them my viewing preferences which would allow them to send me DVD suggestions that are right up my alley. You know as well as anybody how much material is out there and while I enjoy visiting adult stores and spending an hour or two looking through the titles, I would certainly take advantage of a convenient email from one of the big-boy DVD sites saying here are 5 discs that you don't have but we bet you'd like. Right now, I'm on a huge Jaelyn Fox kick and don't leave an adult store without her and there's no way I would resist ordering more of her if it was thrown my way so conveniently. My next step is to contact some of the online DVD companies to see if they have anything in development or plan to do so because right now, the girl-on-girl spam I get from Gamelink is useless to me. Send me an email about an 18 year old asshole getting mauled by a huge black dick or a new release that features a lot of girls eating man ass!! That's what I wanna hear about but no one knows it and that's the problem that needs solving. |

| Penguin Deactivated User 2 Posts 3/14 | I found the thread searching on Google for "DVD catalog software" xxx I have enough DVDs now that I really need to keep track of what I have so I don't buy something or rent something I already have or have seen. I tried several DVD catalog softwares: some free, some with free trials. I don't mind paying if it does what I need. But nothing works well for porn. UNTIL I saw this message! If you are trying to catalog your porn, install this free program. I'll repeat the link here so you don't have to hunt it: URL=https://mycollections.codeplex.com/ Description: CodePlex page info about myCollections free software Click the Download link and install it. It's a very small installation file and there were no problems for me (Windows 10). When you want to add an adult (porn) movie, either click the icon with the X in it or select "Action, Add, XXX." Don't click to add a movie because that doesn't link to the places you'll want. When you select to add XXX, you should type in the title and then at the bottom of the screen click on Web Update and select one of the drop-down choices. If the first one doesn't get it, try another. Choices will be familiar: AdultDVDEmpire, CDUniverse and many more. You don't have to stop at one! You can add to the amount of info you get by searching two or three of the sources. You'll get a cover image, Studio name, description, . . . . Hell! Enough of my ranting. Just try it.Regards and many thanks to myCollections --- this is his (?) only post here! It was a good one!!! Penguin |
