Bear with the porno newbie, but I recently watched "Unreal" and "Captain Mongo's Porno Playhouse". Loved them both! Recommends on the good stuff and the titles to stay away from would be appreciated very much.
Ah, Antonio. I miss him. Wish I knew what happened to him. Off the top of my head: Bliss: If you liked Unreal, which I only vaguely remember, I think this is the one to look for next. Not one of his wacky numbers, just a good straightforward, downbeat suburban anomie movie. And two commentary tracks! Devil in Miss Jones 6: Used to be one of my favorites, haven't watched it in a while, and my tastes may have changed. Back then my tastes were Vicca and Nikita. More over to the goofy side, but not all the way, a ala Captain Mongo. Raw: Another good one, one of the top titles from this era for VCA. This is when Joel Lawrence thought he was a serious actor. Kylie Ireland did a good job, and I recall a nice 3-on-1 for her. Sex World 2002: A revival of a classic title. Didn't do much for me, but the commentary track, in which for some reason Passolini only speaks in Italian (and fake Italian, I think) was memorable. I don't remember the Cafe Flesh movies as much as I should. Stacy Valentine was in one, and I think that one has that scene where Rebecca Lord does two mimes. Very Passolini-esque. New Wave Hookers 6 was one of Ginger Lynn's big comeback movies, but I don't think I liked it that much, even though there were big furry animal costumes. I never knew there was a NWH7. Toward the end I wasn't getting as much out of Antonio. The Ozporns didn't really do it for me. Anyway, I say go with Bliss.

I remember well the following Passolini movies: Cafe Flesh 2 Bliss Sex World 2002 New Wave Hookers 6 I highly recommend the first two and moderately recommend the last two. I'm not sure exactly what happened, but around the time that LFP bought VCA, there was a slight shift in tone in the works of a couple of my favorite directors (Antonio Passolini, Veronica Hart). It seems like a little of the spark went out, and the movies went more by-the-numbers. Passolini was exceptional at his peak, though.

Sex World 2002 and Raw-A Both Ozporns-A- DMJ6 and Captain Mondo-B+ NWH6 and Cafe Flesh 2-B- Everything else I either haven't seen or wouldn't recommend.
Cool link. I knew he wrote a lot of classic films, but I didn't know Stiff Competition was one of them. I'm pretty sure that was one of the first five porn movies I ever saw, and it was in a theater. This thread just made me buy four DVDs. That era for VCA may have been the greatest combination of contract stars and directors ever. With Passolini, Veronica Hart and Michael Ninn working with Vicca, Nikita, Stacy Valentine, Kylie Ireland and Juli Ashton, man, that was a murderer's row lineup. In a DVD space purge a couple of years ago I got rid of my copies of Raw and Bliss, so those are replaced. I added Stiff Competition, and then I picked up an old Veronica Hart/Juli Ashton movie that struck me as one of the girliest pornos ever, Love's Passion. They were cheap. tup, Julie and Sunset didn't really overlap with the others exactly, and while I liked Julie Meadows fine, I was never a Sunset Thomas fan.

They were both in a lot of Passolini and Veronica Hart's stuff. Meadows was ridiculuously hot in Sexworld 2002. Her and Thomas were both in Hart's musical version of Misty Beethoven. Both were under contract with VCA around the beginning of the 2000s. Thomas was also in Passolini's Cafe Flesh 3 which I should have included with a B grade.

Reviews of Passolini movies And yes, I still miss his movies too. For serious stuff, Bliss, Raw, and DMJ 6 are hard to beat and for fun stuff Cap'n Mongo and Sex World 2002 are great. I also remember Ozporns being quite a bit of fun and would highly recommend it to anybody who was a fan of the Ozzy TV show. As best as I remember(it's probably been over a year since I watched the whole thing) the scene breakdowns go something like this. Can not remember any of the guys. 1. Sunset Thomas b/g outdoors at night by a pond either on a dock or a big rock 2. Aria b/b/g anal and dp-Aria dressed up in latex nurse uniform 3. Rachel and Rob Rotten- can't say anything else any scene these two are in is an immediate ff for me 4. Serena South and Gina Ryder-g/g/b IIRC Ryder is in a maid uniform 5. I too miss Antonio Passolini...he is one of my all time favorite directors. I was talking with him just the other day and told him he really should start directing again...ah, if only someone would let him direct to his full potential and current perversions... "Savoy" is correct with his homework, that is him. Raw is of course my fav cause I starred in it. New Wave Hookers 6 (Ginger Lynn) is a classic. Bliss is good too. Sigh. Kylie

Check out RAW. Great story, great acting and of course great sex. Kylie is amazing as always. I miss the good old VCA days. This company produced damn fine porn. I remember Kylie in CASHMERE. She did an amazing job as a singer. I wish she would sing again in a movie. I'd like to see Kylie in a feature set in the roaring twenties singing Cole Porter's "Let's Misbehave".

But of course, I'm sure everyone who responded to this thread is knowledgeable enough to realize that. And I'm sure the name choice was some sort of good-humored ode to the great Italian director. I don't think you would puke if you actually saw one of Passolini's better porn films, Miss Sasha Grey. Inventive, intelligent, funny, well-crafted and - here's the stunner - sexy.
"Sex World 2002" was interesting. I've never seen the original, but all I kept thinking was "Rocky Horror, Rocky Horror". Loved the b/b/b/g with the "Hot Dog" guys and the b/g/a scene with the robotic maid was great too. I listened to the commentary simply because you mentioned it. It was hilarious. He actually knew more Italian than I thought he would, but there was still a lot of gobbly-gook in there. And his soundtracks are good. In fact, everytime I rent a VCA DVD, one of Passolini's tracks is playing on the Main Menu screen.

But she doesn't know an American porn director who directed his best stuff within the last ten years. BTW, Anna Karina was really hot in the 1960s. And Sasha seems to have a very good film taste. Finally - four months later - I was able to watch Bliss. It was good. Solid. I'm such a goober for in-character dialogue *within* a sex scene. I don't want the story to stop when the characters fuck and it was here. Loved the ending. "Tell me I make you happy." "You make me happy." said with those dead eyes. Although, I missed the quirkiness of Unreal with its dream sequences. Ohhh, Nikita. This is the first time I've ever seen her. I love her natural look and soft blonde curls. Actually she was in DMJ6. So nevermind, but she was suited up in rubber so she didn't seem to be the same girl. Raw is next.
I pretty much saw all of Nikita's work with VCA. I don't think you'll find a better movie for her than Bliss, as far as character. The English issue was part of it. She looks awfully nice in Dark Garden, though. I remember thinking she looked good in Fade to Blue, too, but it was only one scene.
If you're adventurous, and willing to bear the exchange rate, I recommend some of Nikita's foreign titles. Adventures on the Orient Express should be available from Tip Top in the US, so that will be reasonably priced. Offertes a Tout 5, Rosso e Nero and Volo PA 540 you'll have to get from Europe, but I consider them well worth the money.
Antonio Passolini died while directing his wildest and most creative feature when he was trampled by a herd of water buffalo wearing George W. JUST KIDDING! :-) The dude is fine, and currently works as one of the head honchos over at AVN's Adult Novelty Business Magazine. I worked with him during my time at AVN. His wildly creative mind comes with incredibly high standards. While his namesake is Italian, his creative persona is more along the lines of the Spainard Gaudi, who was very creative and unorthadox, yet at the same time incredibly disciplined. Antonio Passolini is truly an artistic master, and inspriational, regardless of the medium he works in.
