I don't mind Jake's presence in a scene as I don' mind Joey Silvera's either, but some directors can be obnoxious with it - Khan Tusion comes to mind - good thing most of his stuff is so poor I don't watch it.
I'm the opposite, I would like Jake (and Joey Silvera as well) to be in more scenes, they know their stuff and are really into it, I can relate a lot more to their scenes than some of the male performers they use.
I'm starting to feel that Jake isn't giving his submissive babes enough room to breathe. I'm not seeing much spontaneity or individual personality these days. For greater drama and variety, I'd really like to see Jake shift his focus and play out his themes in vignettes.
I brought this up in the appreciation thread, but it was related to Bitchcraft 3, and my complaint was more that it's a g/g series and his hands were in the scene groping the girls and he directed throughout (which didn't happen in either BC1 or BC2). I find the whole "hands in the scene" and "talking director" thing really annoying, but I understand that's the style (I use that term loosely as it's only really a style for POV movies, and for other non-POV I don't think it's really a style as much as it is just lousy/lazy directing and editing), but it felt REALLY out of place and jarring in a lesbian movie. Similar complaint for Juan Cuba doing the same thing in Be My Bitch 5. Oh well. I just hope Hollywood directors don't start doing that :)
i agree with the OP. the best parts of jake's movies are when he isn't in them. this isn't an insult or an attack, i just prefer it when it doesn't become a POV scene, which i dislike. jake sets up some really great scenes, but i don't enjoy him taking part in them.
Thanks to everyone for your input! Especially those who like me! LOL What works for a given viewer is subjective and personal. Some people like my input into a scene and some people don't. That will never change. Having said that, the element of "hands in the scene" and "talking director" are elements that define "gonzo" porn. This doesn't work for everyone. It does, however, work for me. If it was just the result of "lousy/lazy directing and editing" I don't think the work of John Stagliano for instance, who innovated this style, would have captured the imagination of so many viewers and inspired so many shooters over the years. Most shooters tell the performers, "Never look in the camera". To me, as a viewer, looking straight into the eyes of the girl engages me in a way I like. So I tell the girls, "Feel free to look look straight into the eyes of the viewer sometimes. I am, ( the viewer is) watching you fuck. It's fine to include me/them in the moment sometimes by making eye contact". Some people like it, some people don't. Some people like golf, some people like bowling. As for me "establishing" the camera/myself, a male presence, in a g/g scene- There are certain elements in commercial porn that the "audience" responds to, as shown by sales. Some shooters stay within that template at all times to assure at least moderate success. I have never seen the gonzo element that I like, in g/g porn for instance. For me watching girls have rough sex, while not being aware that I'm watching, and/or not engaging me directly or personally is pretty hot. Being right up close and having them interact with me while they're doing it, is MUCH hotter. I wanted to try allowing that element to occur in "Bitchcraft". In my real life, watching girls play in a BDSM context, I like being able to "direct", suggest things that I would like to see , participate psychologically in the power exchange, even if I'm not participating physically. I like to be able to encourage the domme to push the sub harder, I like for the domme to make the sub to interact with me verbally while she's being dommed, etc. When I'm talking to girls about being in"Bitchcraft", some girls tell me, " I love the idea of dominating another girl sexually, but I don't have much real experience with actually doing it. Maybe you could help me with ideas and ways to express it to keep it interesting", or something along those lines. So I tried it as a device to inject some male energy/perversion into what can sometimes, if I let it, devolve into "kissy face" g/g, and to offer ideas/suggestions to girls with limited experience in actually having another girl to dom, without having to stop the camera/action/moment.
To get a really objective view of something I'm trying in a movie, I have to let a little time pass after being immersed in the shooting/editing and go back and watch it with fresh eyes, as a viewer. For me, it works in some moments and other moments less so. Most of the scenes I tried it in ended up in #3. Just another psycho-sexual/cinematic experiment in my quest to bring viewers the fun and stimulation of girls who play rough. Thanks 4 watching!
Only in the scenes in #3, or is that the only "Fuck Slaves" you've watched? I'm in scenes in the other episodes and I'm just wondering from the wording of your post, if it is me in any scene that doesn't work for you, ( which I can live with) or did you feel this "intrusive" quality occurred in the scenes from #3 specifically. Just curious. Thanks for your input.
As far as that black glove... The next time I see you, if you whip your hand out of your jacket pocket and are wearing that, I will shudder from head to toe and die on the spot.
It's more of a general impression, but I'll cast my mind back and try to come up with some specifics, as I'd like my comments to be constructive. If you don't know it already, I'm a big fan and really love the psycho-sexual territory you explore. No one else, not even Bruce Seven, has ever come close to what you're doing in this area.
First of all let me tell you it's all kinds of class to respond to a thread that's a bit critical. I'm obviously a fan (I mean, you gave me a Bobbi Starr compilation tape!) to be watching your work and appreciate your response. That said, in Fuck Slaves 3 I felt as though the performers were, quite frankly, operating at a notch above you, so they had to come back down in order to include you. You hired some really, really top notch performers (Jaelyn Fox is new to me and she was scorching), so you should sit back and let them do their thing. Just my two cents.
I've been trying to think of specific examples and this is what I've come up with: Fuck Slaves #1: The scene with Sasha, Sandra, and Manuel. The dynamics felt very fluid. It seemed more emotional.
speaking of pigs, Jake, when are you gonna cast me in a scene?? if piggish behavior is what you're needing from time to time, I'm rearin to go brotha!! keep it lewd and fithy bro, lates, Von S. (only 2 posts to go,..)
