Indeed, if you research USA newspaper articles from the 1950s and 60s, you will find many, many stories about (live and video)sex performers being successfully prosecuted for indency. In the 1970s these prosecutions became less successful--as more and more people enjoyed sexvids in their homes on VCRs. And they weren't viewing videos titled "Donkey Punch"--they were watching features like "Firestorm", "The Pink Lagoon"/"Surrender in Paradise", and "The Brat" series. The fact that Janine has moved on to retirement leaving an absence in the industry of females who fit the "beautiful, classy, erotic" definition, that Janine epitomized, is not a good sign. Profits are down, productions are fewer, promising up-and-comers are leaving the industry in alarming numbers, and public support for the industry is on a downward spiral. So, my additional point would be: not only should we fans not forget about the female porn icons like Janine who built this industry, but the industry should realize it needs real "stars," the future "Janines"--and a diversified content market so that new girls, who have the beauty and sex appeal to be true "stars," have more choices in the type of porn, and career, they can pursue.
