Questions and Answers
Q. Is there anything to bring for the interview?
A. Please bring along some identification with your photo attach that proves your real age.
Q. Is there some kind of registration fee?
A. Nothing to worry about, it’s absolutely free.
Q. I’m kind of uneasy going to the interview at your office by myself….
A. We can do Interviews outside of the office. We can discuss another location.
Q. I’m currently working though….
A. Not a problem. We can adjust to your schedule. We give a warm welcome to those who have previous experience and are considering re-entering this kind of work. It’s important that you be honest during your discussion with us.
Q. I absolutely don’t want anyone to find out about this…
A. It’s okay. There is plenty in this line of work that protects your privacy. We will give you a thorough explanation during the interview. We will only start with your consent.
Q. Do you have any work available on that day?
A. Yes we have work available on the same day but please consult with our staff as there are cases where it’s not possible. Basically this kind of work is not demanding, so it’s quite difficult to earn decent money.
Q. When will I receive my salary / wage?
A. You will receive payment the following month after you have completed your work. (It’s normal in Japan for your salary to lag by one month. Gotta work two months before you get your first paycheck.)
Q. What sort of work would I be doing?
A. At Zero Sum Productions, We handle a extensive range of work including TV, gravure, adult video, internet, photo albums, photo shoots, v-cinema. Because we will explain each of these lines of work in detail, please make it quite clear to what extent your willing to do.

A. That’s fine! There are applicants that aren’t really sure about it but they want to give it a try. It’s also fine if circumstances arise that means you cannot do any more after your first performance.
Q. During the interview what will you do?
A. First of all we will talk to you about this company and explain your job in detail. In order to put you at ease we will discuss what you’re okay with doing and what you’re not willing to do, how we can contact you (we can contact you during certain time periods for example), and work schedule details. Work conditions. We will work to best fit your circumstances. After all this we will take a photo and a full-body-photo and then onto the signing of the contract. (You will then work under this company.)
Q. How will I receive work?
A. After completion of the interview we will take a photo portrait for publicity and advertising use. This is especially important if you are going to be working in the adult video industry. You will do a photo shoot / filming with professional make-up artists and camera persons. The manager will then work with another publishers and companies to sell your work and make you popular. In the future, in the case of a client proposing an offer to the manager, the manager will get in touch with you and we will adjust your schedule. This is what your work entails.
Q. I don’t have any confidence in my appearance.
A. You don’t make that decision. Please have confidence in yourself. Your appearance is absolutely vital. Girls that actually have confidence in their looks almost don’t exist. The criteria varies among everyone. Here at this company we will make you beautiful. When you start work with us, our professional make-up artists and stylists will teach you how to put on make-up and give fashion advice etc and work on your professional sense. If necessary, we can also introduce you to plastic surgery procedures and the like. Here at this company we not only just work on beautifying your outer appearance but we also work on making you beautiful on the inside as well. So please don’t worry too much about your looks and please draw some courage and apply.

What is the point of bringing up something from 70 years ago that has absolutely nothing to do with the topic?

It's called trolling. Either that or he's either Korean or Chinese. That whole history is still a mighty sore spot.
Yeah right, tell that to the girls here who have to bust ass and spend weeks on the road stripping that working 2 days a month to earn $100k isn't that much.

$100K for an "unskilled" job (doesn't require years of schooling/training/experience) and easy hours (compared to the typical grind) ain't bad. Plenty of college grads with advanced degrees can only dream of $100K.
@Ordell: Are you sure those rates are per month and not per session?
At any rate, it sounds steep and makes me wonder where does the money come from.
It's difficult/inconvenient (as an American) to buy JAV without jumping through hoops, so who's buying it? Do Japanese men spend that much on porn? How much does a JAV DVD cost in Japan? How much does US-made porn cost in Japan?

It's per month. There are no sessions since the majority of JAV titles feature one girl on the cover and in every scene. She spends 1, maybe 2 days filming. I've seen a shooting schedule. It's so regimented, just like everything else the Japanese do. Scene 1 at 9 am, scene 2 at 11 am, lunch at noon, scene 3 at 2pm, break to do an interview, last two scenes in the afternoon and evening. None of this 5 hours to do a scene like we hear about in the Porn Valley.
Most DVDs sell for 1980 Yen, which is roughly $22. It sells far better in Japan so their industry is in better shape than ours, for a few reasons.
1) There is EXTENSIVE promotion. The girls do dozens of in-store appearances a year, often times 2 separate stores in one day. One girl (Acky, the girl in my avatar) did 20 in one month. Show up at a store, sign discs. Needless to say guys show up in droves and they sell tons of DVDs. In a country the size of California, with 1/4 the total national population crowded in the Tokyo area, it's much easier to do than here.
Most girls here use porn to advance their stripping careers. They go on the road appearing at clubs and if movies sell, great. Imagine Vivid or Wicked sending a contract girl around the country not to appear at strip clubs but hit stores to sell their DVDs. Never happen. That's how they do it in JAV, because the girl is a studio employee.
2) The Internet isn't as cheap or pervasive in Japan, not as many people have computers. So there is less piracy.
3) They just steal less in Japan and buy more. Their music industry isn't hemmoraghing like in the U.S.
Japan is a country of 120 million people. They sell a lot in their own country and that's enough. They have no interest in selling abroad (I think Japanese men are fed up as it is with white guys chasing after their women, no reason to encourage it, heheh). Plus, no one outside of Japan would accept the pixilation. Look at all the complaining here about the mosaic.

Here's something I've been wondering. Aren't Asians very conservative when it comes to family and their image? Or is it just an illusion these days? It boggles me when I see an overwhelming amount of new girls getting into JAV every month. Their roster must be at least triple of what we have here, but at the same time there is a high turnover rate. Most do it only for the money and not serious about a career as a professional adult actress. What will these girls do once their family finds out?

It depends on the culture of each Asian nations, and also the culture within each country too.
Japan and Thailand seems to be much more open than other Asian countries. I guess that's why you read and hear a lot more sexual stories(some w/ stereotypes) from those two countries.
I'm sure there are rural areas of Japan that is conservative and traditional but that's probably a minority compared to the rest of the country.

Considering the kind of work, and the profits generated by their work, the wage is not that great. There are a number of people who make that kind of money and more in mid-level business or government jobs, not to mention in science or technical backgrounds, and not just for a few years, and in an area that might prevent you from getting future work. Of course, many of those who become performers would be working minimum wage jobs, but for someone who has more options the money is not that remarkable.

all comes down to their religion. China and Korea are Confucian societies and take a VERY dim view of this stuff. Plus, fundie Christians got a toehold into South Korea and about 1/4 of the country is deeply Christian. Not the soft Christianity of Unitarians or some of those non-dogmatic sing-and-clap churches, I mean Pentacosal. Catholicism is growing rapidly in China, although it's not recognized by the Vatican.
Japan never adopted Buddhism as other countries did, they made their own (which is how they do EVERYTHING). Prior to WW II, they worshipped the emperor as a living god. If you saw "The Last Samurai" you heard them call Meiji a living god a few times. After WW II we said "Uh uh, none of that," stripping them of what they had for a religion.
Japan is effectively without a religion or a high-level moral code like Confucianism. What they had for Buddhism, which isn't all that strict about sexual mores anyway, is dying fast. There is strict conformity and the whole "I'll do my best" attitude that even the JAV girls frequently say in their blogs, but that's it as far as I can see. 40% of the country is atheist, last I read. Basically, Japan is the Asian equivalent of Sweden.

You're thinking of Korea. Japan is merely middle of the pack in broadband penetration (no pun intended) among industrialized countries.

Are you fucking stupid? There are a lot of hard working people who have spent a lot of time studying at University and a lot of them don't end up getting paid that much.
100K is more than enough for someone who gets paid to have sex on camera (not even working everyday!)

Hello to you to, you might want to read the forum etiquette before posting here.

As I said above, many people in professional fields make that wage, and for a lot longer and in a much more stable way than in porn, which working in can have a very damaging effect on your career options down the line.
For those whose only options are minimum wage this sounds great, but to someone who can actually get a PhD or get through law school, or have some minor success in business, which is a fair number of people believe it or not, this is not the kind of money that would tempt them into doing porn.
Ultimately the motivation to get into porn has to involve more than the money, as they can make as much money if not more escorting.

*Sigh*
Many people in professional fields make that wage? And what is many to you? It doesn't matter if porn has a damaging effect on your career. The fact remains pornstars aren't required to have any education and they don't work 8+ hours a day like other hard-working people such as engineers, lawyers, accountants, scientists, medical doctors, etc.
This made me seriously fucking laugh out loud. So someone who has the opportunity to go pursue a real career should be paid as much money as they would have doing that by being lazy instead and taking the easy route in porn? HAHAHAHAHA!
http://www.payscale.com/best-colleges/degrees.asp
Take a look at this. Notice how all of those majors have a starting salary of way below 100K. Even the engineering majors in the top are significantly below 100K. And only the top 5 majors happen to have a mid-career median salary that surpasses 100K. By your dumb logic, someone who has sex on camera should have a starting salary that's higher than the mid-career average salary of someone such as an engineer who works extremely hard everyday and had to go to University to study physics, calculus, and other advanced topics.

I already agreed that most of the performers in porn wouldn't have graduate degrees or professional careers as an option. So you're tilting at windmills there.
As for your chart, undergrad degrees are essentially there to prove to employers that you can show up for class for 4 years, no one who plans on actually having a career in their respective field stops at an undergrad degree these days.
But that's actually off topic anyway, you're real argument is that the performers shouldn't be getting paid this wage because somehow they don't 'deserve' it. Your argument is obviously based on a sense of contempt for those who work in porn, a strange attitude for someone with enough interest in pornography to join a forum on that exact same subject. Do you look down on yourself for watching and masturbating to porn?

You mentioned pornstars who had the opportunity to pursue such advanced education but chose not to. I was just responding back.
Don't try to make it sound like those 4 years were just a breeze. The employer needs to know that you are capable of learning the discipline of your specific job. I'm also not sure about your claim there either. I don't know the statistics on how many people actually go on to becoming a professional student but I know a lot of people with just a B.S. and they aren't planning on going to graduate school. I'm not sure why you're bringing this up though because you are only implying a false premise that people with a Master's are going to make a lot of money. This is absolutely false for most majors.
My argument is based on merit. Someone who has sex for a living should not be paid as much as someone who's worked very hard to pursue a difficult career. Why would I look down upon myself for watching porn? I'm only saying that pornstars shouldn't be paid as much money as professionals of other more tedious careers.

I never mentioned any such thing. I said few people would go into porn as performers if they had professional careers as an option.
Most undergrad degrees are not that difficult, morons graduate with them everyday, if someone finds getting their undergrad degree that gruelling they shouldn't pursue a masters or PhD in their field, they've obviously picked the wrong area of study.
Certainly a masters in Humanities or Social Sciences isn't going to lead to a high paying job right away or probably ever, but that's not what I was referring to as no one with an ounce of sense pursues such a degree because they want to make a lot of money. In sciences even a masters is largely just a stepping stone, the real money doesn't start until you get a PhD, but once you have that $100,000+ a year is easily within reach.
As for how much porn performers 'deserve' I'd say that if they're helping to generate serious amounts of money they deserve a fair amount based on what they generate. Where do you think the money goes if it doesn't go to the performers? Straight into the producers wallets, why is a porn producer more deserving of the cash instead of the performers whose work they are benefiting from? And if a good porn performance was such an unskilled job, why are so few capable of turning in great performances like Annette Schwarz or Gianna?
On a related note, from interviews I've read (with Jake Malone before he joined Evil Angel) most directors are also ridiculously underpaid. Of course, most directors are terrible but that is all the more reason the talented directors should be getting a better deal.

Eh? So what's this you wrote here?
So in other words you're saying that most pornstars would find the 100K very appealing which totally contradicts what you initially said?
Those undergrad degrees that are easy will bring very little money. The next thing you wrote leads me to believe you never graduated from college with a challenging degree because otherwise you wouldn't say such a stupid thing. Ask any doctor, engineer, or lawyer and I guarantee you most of them will say their education experience was very grueling. Believe it or not, it is possible to like something that's at the same time very challenging. Hard work is what will ultimately determine whether you succeed in your major or not.
For engineering, maybe. For sciences, not true at all. Tell that to my physics and chemistry professors and they will laugh at you.
However, let's talk about the engineering major. If he/she was able to get a doctoral degree in such a demanding field, then he/she certainly deserves to get paid much more than a pornstar.
You act like this situation is exclusive to porn. Going by your logic, I guess all the engineers working at United Technologies Corporation should also be paid as much as the CEO since they play a hand in generating a lot of revenue for the company.
Grow up and accept American capitalism.
Well I really can't comment because I don't know much about the daily work of a porn producer but I will say that performers don't deserve 100K because they're having sex on camera! They're not doing anything else!
You have got to be kidding me. There are a shit load of pornstars making good money.
And what is this skill you speak of? Taking a cock inside your pussy is some serious skill, huh? I mean fuck all those guys who worked hard to learn how to solve complicated differential equations and simulate electric circuits, they're obviously not as skillful as pornstars!
Yeah, because yelling "open your legs, fuck doggy for two minutes, alright cum on her titties now!" is definitely deserving of a lot of money.

BlackSix, just quit while you're behind and accept that your initial statement was pretty absurd. Your ensuing attempts to justify it are not helping.

A $100 grand a year just to fuck a few times a week is a damn good deal no matter how you slice it, especially considering that many people with graduate degrees and extensive professional training make considerably less. When you argue against common sense, you waste everybody's time including your own.

You're reading comprehension seems very low, I never said that $100,000 for porn stars wasn't very appealing, I simply said that $100,000 a year is not that jackpot you all seem to think it.
Again, your reading comprehension is very low. I said that if one found a undergrad degree gruelling one should not pursue a masters or PhD in that field. Graduate work is where the real work begins. Becoming a lawyer is gruelling, getting the undergrad degree to get into law school is not particularly gruelling. I have several friends who have gone through law school, and while law school was difficult they hardly found getting their B.A. difficult, that's why they did well in law school.
I have a family member who is a biochemist and he easily clears more than $100,000 a year. Can he have a laugh at you?
I said 'a fair amount' not 'the same amount.' A fair wage is something that is beyond American capitalism now? Again you seem to have trouble reading these word thingies called sentences.

The rest of your post is so Off-Topic I'm not going to bother going there.

Well, I wouldn't want to question 'common sense.'
For a performer to make over $100,000 a year requires a lot more than a few scenes a week (it would take at least 4 scenes a week), from what I've read only the top gonzo girls get enough work to make around that amount a year, and that amount of work only lasts a couple of years.
To get things back on topic, if JAV girls really can make $100,000 a year by only doing a few scenes a month, then they are doing much better than US girls. But we don't know if this ad is telling us the truth, after all they're going to present things are rosily as possible to women interested in getting into the business. This would carry a lot more legitimacy if it was coming straight from the women themselves.

Try "Asian equivalent of Estonia" :)
About 72% of Swedish population belong to Church of Sweden (Lutheran). In the name of truth it should be mentioned that most of them are passive members and almost never attend any services.
On the other hand 76% of Estonian population do not associate themselves with ANY religion at all. About 15% are Lutherans.
In spite of high level of irreligious people we have no significant porn industry to speak of. Of course some porn is produced but this is more of a hobby for some people than real business. So I would not try to find direct correlation between religiousness of a society and flourishing porn industry.

None of this has anything do with your original assertion that "$100,000 a year isn't that much". If anything, it seems like now you're trying to say that it IS that much!
My ex has a doctorate in Physical Therapy and works her ass off in a hospital for $60,000 a year! Tell her 100 G isn't that much for fucking "4 times a week", and she won't laugh at you; she'll punch you in the face.

Two things:
1) It's not $100k. It's $89k. Look at the figures again.
2) An email leak a few years back listed salaries, and some were nuts. Some girls were getting 2.5 million Yen per month, or $25,000. I have no doubt top stars like Acky, Yuma Asami, Saori Hara, Asami Ogawa, and a bunch of other names that mean nothing to most people here are making 5 figures a month.
But they earn it. They work every day. They may spend 2-3 days shooting but then it's non-stop publicity appearances to sell videos, photoshoots like crazy, etc. I read their blogs and the girls are constantly flying off to Okinawa and Guam to do photoshoots, not for porn mags but picture books because they have no sex, they are just nude books. Photobooks are very popular in Japan but never caught on here. Here's a bunch to get an idea of what they are like.
A bunch of the top name girls have been doing a silly skit show with top non-nude models called Onegai Muscat, where they do silly performances and engage in all kinds of eye candy skits. Lotsa cleavage and upskirt shots. (sample song)
They are studio employees and do as they are told and get maybe 3-4 days off a month. I doubt most American porn stars would tolerate this kind of control.
They make bank but they earn it.
