I'm very excited to announce that Jenna Jameson will be joining us on 9/27 for a live chat! I had the pleasure of corresponding with Jenna today and am very glad to have gotten to know her. We have even been debating the finer issues of women in the adult industry. Jenna is one of the nicest people in the industry - I very much look forward to this chat. Jenna will be launching a new site in just a few weeks at [url=315041]www.clubjenna.com. I thought it would be great if you guys could provide some feedback on what you'd like to see on her site. Hmm... I don't hang out in many internet sites like this, but I have a couple ideas, anyway. Pictures of Jenna would be nice ([THWACK!] That's a given, Darkmage!) How about some real interactivity? I presume Ms. Jameson gets enough offers for movies that she can pick & choose. Why not get the members' opinion? It should be a simple matter to set up a quick one-question form that would provide her with what her fans want to see her in. I would like Jenna's next movie to be <select><option>set in Japan</option><option>14th Century period piece</option><option>another Fantasy setting</option><option>a western</option><option>a biker movie</option><option>shot in widescreen</option></select> <input type=button value="Submit"> Or why not do it by director? "Hey gang! I have the opportunity to shoot my next movie with Antonio Passolini, Veronic Hart, Andrew Blake or Richard Mann. Who do you think I should make my next movie with?" Please please please include a FAQ. Asia Carrera's FAQ has been one of the best tools around to whack the general masses over the head with in order to get knock loose some silly notions. It would be nice to have another one to refer people to. Obviously, some parts would be specific to Jenna's situation/career. Contests for autographed stuff would be cool. Just make sure the contests aren't dippy things like "Give us the e-mail addresses of your friends and win an autographed set of panties!" Really, it's all in execution. "Best Haiku About Jenna's Nipples" would be interesting. "Click on this link to be entered into the random drawing" is not. A question of the week/month would be a neat feature. Some sort of journal about Jenna's life would be great. Update it once a week, tell a little about the films / appearances that she does. I'm sure you can guess where I got this idea from. #1 - Free site. I won't go on any site that requires credit card. #2 - I agree with Darkmage. Look at your competition, especially Asia's site. Her FAQ, movie listing, and her 'journal' for lack of a better word are great. It gives a real sense of personality and coming to the fans.
Good ideas, guys. I couldn't agree more... 1) 100% free site. A web site is a place for the actresses to stay in touch with their fans. It's a place to tell the fans where they're appearing, what they're doing, etc. The closer the fans feel to the actresses, the more loyal they are to purchase their products. 2) Keep it updated! There's nothing worse than an outdated site. Darkmage's idea about the journal once a week is a great idea. I've been to a few sites that hadn't been updated in over six months. I never went back. Most porn stars go on Howard Stern or other media places to promote movies, etc. This web site would be an up to the minute calendar of your current projects. 3) Keep it personal. One of the best things about Asia's site is that I know she's the one behind it. I don't mean that Jenna has to run out and take classes in HTML and run her own site. But, Jenna should control the content and read it very regularly... especially if you have a forum on it. Almost every celebrity forum I've seen is in desperate need of a celebrity. In general... talk to the fans like friends on the phone. Asia does a great job with this. I wish more sites were like hers. 4) Give us some behind the scenes info before the movie comes out. A lot of people in this forum have commented about how much they love this feature of DVDs. But to read it on your web site in your own words would be great. Plus, it would hype the movie before it ever came out. I'll try to think of more...
A 100% free site doesn't make sense from Jenna's perspective. (I'm making an assumption here. I haven't spoken with Jenna about this. Maybe she'll jump in with her thoughts.) Jenna will most likely be providing features on her site that really only make financial sense in the membership/subscriber model. I don't think that live video feeds are really something that should be provided for free, especially from a star as well known as Jenna. Why buy her movies when you can watch her on the internet for free? I think a free section of the site is a great idea. It has to be something more than just a handful of teaser pics and 'Join Now' buttons everywhere. Flash animations are a neat feature the first time I visit a site. After I've seen them once I certainly don't want to have to sit through 'em on each follow-up visit.
Hmm... Drew raises a good point. Some of these features will be dependant upon the business model of the web site. A name like "ClubJenna" implies a membership of some sort. As much as we would all enjoy a 100% free site, I don't think we're going to have much luck in getting it. With that in mind, I stand by my recommendations. The FAQ, at least, should be in the free/preview section. We (the missionaries of Truth About Porn) need this FAQ to be visible to the huddled masses. This way we can give them the URL and say "This is the way it really is, told to you by a name even you can recognize." On the other hand, I will provide an alternative viewpoint to Drew's supposition:Because I can either wait three minutes downloading a forty second clip displayed in a 2" x 1.5" window with no plot, bad sound and no foreplay... Or I can buy a $24.99 DVD and see two hours of that gorgeous face, larger than life on a 35" TV with 5.1 sound, a plot, and razor sharp image. And if I don't like it, I can come here and trade it away for something else. I'm not saying you're wrong, but I don't think it will impact her movie sales much at all. We're not talking about "that other studio" who has basically churned out DVDs as a side business. Still... to keep this on-topic, how about Jenna writing reviews of her own movies? I don't think the entire thing should be free. There's a couple websites where the star has some exclusive scenes that are only for the paying members. I don't have any problem with that. I just feel like I'm in the middle of a huge commercial site with all of the sites where there are pay areas. Like Drew said, it's nothing but a bunch of 'JOIN HERE NOW!!!' buttons and that really turns me off. Just having the menu listing 'free' stuff under 'free' and 'member' stuff under 'member' should be enough. It would be great to have Jenna's thoughts on her own movies. Back to Asia's site again, her filmography lists the year made, her rating of the movie, the director and company, the cast, and then some quick comments on many of the films. I check it almost every time before I pick up an Asia movie.
