Jesse Jane death: Legal fight reveals late Oklahoma porn star had husband in Texas Nolan Clay The Oklahoman
An 82-year-old Texas man is claiming he was married to porn star Jesse Jane at the time of her death from a drug overdose.
Richard H. Wilcox Jr., of Longview, Texas, is seeking to take control of her estate in Oklahoma from her son. A hearing is set for Sept. 9 in Cleveland County District Court.
"She was beautiful," Wilcox said in a brief phone interview Tuesday. "She was a very good person, very intelligent, extremely intelligent. That usually doesn't go with that industry."
Wilcox was the president of RHW Metals, a company that serviced the oil industry for decades before closing during the pandemic. The company had $27.9 million in gross revenue in fiscal year 2019, according to bankruptcy records.
Jane overdosed on cocaine and fentanyl in January at her boyfriend's home in Moore, according to an autopsy report made public Sunday. She was 43.
Moore police discovered the bodies of Jane and her boyfriend, Brett Hasenmueller, 33, on Jan. 24 during a welfare check. Police at the time said they were investigating the deaths as drug overdoses.
In March, a judge appointed her son, Ethan, 24, the interim special administrator for her estate.
Cleveland County Associate District Judge Bethany Stanley was told that "there are no additional heirs that need to be noticed of these proceedings."
Wilcox wants the judge to vacate that appointment and make him the special administrator of the estate instead. His attorney told the judge in a legal filing that Wilcox and Jane wed in Santorini, Greece, on July 17, 2019.
"They memorialized that blessed event upon their return to Texas by executing a Declaration and Registration of Informal Marriage," the attorney wrote.
The declaration was attached to the legal filing as an exhibit. Both signed it on Nov. 6, 2019, swearing that "we ... are married to each other." The judge was not told that Wilcox filed for divorce in Texas last year.
The divorce case was pending at the time of Jane's death and has since been dismissed.
Both sides said no will has been located. Jane had a net worth of $500,000 at the time of her death, according to celebritynetworth.com.
Under state law, because there was no will, Wilcox is entitled to half the estate, his attorney, J. David Terrell, told The Oklahoman. "He'll get half and her son will get half, which he doesn't have any problem with it," the attorney said.
^I don't think porn is that lucrative and a lot of these performers live quite a lavish lifestyle that they can barely afford. There are very few performers who are going to become multi-millionaires after their career's over.
World's 'highest-paid' porn star had under $50K in bank at time of death in Oklahoma by Nolan Clay The Oklahoman 11/25/2025
In the end, there was no big legal fight over the estate of world-famous porn star Jesse Jane after all.
Turns out there wasn't that much to fight about anyway.
Jane, 43, died of a drug overdose in Oklahoma in January 2024 in the bedroom of her boyfriend's home, according to her autopsy report. She had no real estate, no stocks and bonds, no personal property and just $42,609 in the bank, according to the final inventory of the estate.
On Nov. 13, a Cleveland County probate judge ordered that the money be split equally between her son and her much older husband, who had been divorcing her.
One website, celebritynetworth.com, had described Jane as the highest-paid adult star in the world. It estimated her financial worth at $500,000 at the time of her death.
"You can't trust the internet," probate attorney J. David Terrell said.
The two heirs could still get more money from her deal with XR Brands, a company in California, that sells Jesse Jane adult toys, the attorney said. Also, her husband had already sold her car for around $25,000 and gave the son half.
Jane became widely known for her starring role in two adult films, "Pirates" in 2005 and "Pirates II: Stagnetti's Revenge" in 2008. The sequel reportedly had a budget of $8 million, making it one of the most expensive adult films ever made.
She also had a few mainstream roles, appearing in the 2004 movie "Starsky & Hutch" and the HBO series "Entourage."
"I got into porn right at the perfect time, when porn stars mattered," Jane told the magazine GQ in 2018. "Porn stars back then, they were big, glamorous. You walked into a room, you turned heads." Moore police discovered the bodies of Jane and her boyfriend, Brett Hasenmueller, 33, on Jan. 24, 2024, during a welfare check. Both overdosed on fentanyl and cocaine, according to the autopsy reports.
Two months after her death, the probate judge appointed her son, Ethan Self, of Moore, as the interim special administrator for her estate. He told the judge in court papers that he was the only heir.
But then, Richard H. Wilcox Jr., of Longview, Texas, sought to take control of the estate from the son. Wilcox told the judge he was her husband. He did not mention that he had filed for divorce.
Wilcox was the president of RHW Metals, a company that serviced the oil industry for decades before closing during the pandemic. He claimed the two wed in Santorini, Greece, on July 17, 2019.
On their wedding day, Jane had just turned 39. He was 77.
"They memorialized that blessed event upon their return to Texas by executing a Declaration and Registration of Informal Marriage," wrote Terrell, the probate attorney.
"We, the undersigned, are married to each other," both stated under oath in the 2019 declaration, which was filed in the probate case as an exhibit.
The dispute over control of the estate was headed for a showdown hearing in September 2024. Instead, the legal fight fizzled out. The son and husband reached an agreement before the hearing, and Wilcox was named administrator of the estate.
Wilcox filed for divorce in Texas in June 2023. The divorce case was pending at the time of Jane's death.
Wilcox last year declined to talk about their marriage but did say Jane was flocked by fans everywhere they went. "Anywhere, any small town, I don't care where you went. She was known, I'm guessing, by probably 60% of the people on the face of the Earth," he said.
Self, now 26, declined comment.
Very little about her finances in the last years of her life can be determined from public records. She had sold her house in Moore in 2021 for $435,000, records show. She also had been hit with a number of liens over unpaid state and federal taxes.
The largest federal tax lien, filed in 2018, was for $200,755.
Yesterday marked two years since Jesse passed away. When I gathered comments from her friends and colleagues back then (see above), I took note that there was nothing from her DP sister Stoya.
I recently came across this blog entry on her Substack, posted in April of that year. I'm including it here for others and the record.
