If you don't read SimplyJimmyD then you have no idea what I'm talking about. If you do, then I wonder if you've had any thoughts on the matter.

JimmyD has suggested that it could be valuable to put together a PSA for inclusion on DVDs promoting safer sex practices for the viewers. He sites that since mainstream Hollywood has, occasionally, attempted to remind viewers that what they see in movies is fantasy and done by professionals and shouldn't be done by the general public, maybe pornographers should step up to the responsibility plate and do the same. I think this idea has merit.

JimmyD has mentioned that this would cost money to produce. Yeah, I imagine so. He seems to imply that he will go to some notables and ask them to fund the project. I wonder if the rest of us might like to support it, and maybe make a statement about what we think is important.

JimmyD, if you're reading this, or catch wind of it - how about setting up a "This is our goal/This is our donations" graph like they do for public television funding drives. There are a lot of us out here, if each of us send just 5$, maybe we can make a difference.

Don't they all ready have this in front of VCA tapes? I've seen it so many times. It's the one where the doctor-like lady is sitting at the desk and gives the whole speech about unprotected vs. protected sex.

There's also a similar idea on Marc Dorcel DVDs ( not American I realise , though presumably it also shows up on their Wicked re-releases ) . This safe sex ad comes in the form of mixed live and cartoon action . It's very funny , light hearted , and absolutely gets the message across without being patronizing . No offence to the worthy idea from VCA , but it irks me somewhat to have that woman tell me what to do . It might be better to go down a more 'softly softly' route . Just my tupence ...

Like a "Kids, don't try this at home" disclaimer?

Years ago a disclaimer or notice to practice safe sex was always on the video tapes. It might have been Caballero or one of those companies.

Private has been doing this for years. Of course, at the end they add that if you want to have safe sex, there is no better way than to use Private condoms.

What bothers me is that I have seen an interview with someone from Private where he claimed that this 1 minute spot has cost them lost of mony, while it is clear to me that it is mainly a collection of clips from their archive. And they haven't changed it in ... well, they have never changed it period.

Max Hardcore also has a warning and promotes safe sex before the start of his movies.

I personally don't think it would have such a big impact because let's face it, how many people actually stopped smoking because of the warning label on the package for example?

I think it has less to do with actually making a difference, and getting people to listen, than it has to do with helping the adult-industry gain legitimacy as a responsible entity.

In that way, I think it's a good idea, but I do agree with Ramsey that from purely informational standpoint it probably won't have much impact. On the other hand, if it's done well (NOT the damn VCA woman droning on and on behind the desk) it MIGHT educate a few people here and there, despite themselves. :)

Someone alerted me to this thread. I'll admit I don't often visit this site. Maybe I should more often?

I didn't realize there are companies running "safe sex" PSAs on their product. Perhaps I should watch more porn? At the very least, porn consumption might possibly qualify as a tax credit for someone in my line of work. As for the "droning lady" on VCA tapes goes, you guys are right, if she drones, it's a bore. A safe sex PSA should be produced in a way that is actually entertaining, yet short and to the point. And probably with a notable star. As for whether or not these PSAs have any impact... Who knows? But even if they really don't, at the very least, it shows that there are some in the jizz biz who have a social conscience, albeit not an overly inflated one. I'm still going to try and run with this idea.

And as for you Ms. Kimmie Lixx... Where the heck have you been? Haven't seen or heard from you in some time. You're such a sweet person! You're fun to be with and someone I'm glad I know! And I ain't talking in a biblical sense: I mean that in the nicest possible way.

In Brazil, I just found out, it is mandated by law that all adult movies have at their beginning a use condoms/safe sex PSA.
