Naughty Girl,
Welcome to the forum.
I'm not really familiar with Ulysses, but from the covers and the director's name, it looks like a European release and a US release. We have had quite a few instances where the covers differ, but the film is the same. Marc Dorcel films for example, have different box covers for the European release and the US release. Conversely, there have been US releases that also get a very different box cover when release by a European distributor.
A couple of years before his demise, king of B-movies Aristide Massacesi (aka Joe D'Amato) filmed the same group of actors (Jolt Walton, Mike Foster, Regina, Maria Swallontaj, Kelly Trump and the lovely Mary Eleniak) playing Greek Gods and Heroes or Biblical characters. The result: four or five different videos, Sodoma & Gomorrah, Hercules, Love & Psyche, Ulysses and maybe more. So I can't tell the difference between these two editions.
The actor you're asking about is probably Jolt "John" Walton.

Thanks Sbando,
You have a much greater depth of knowledge than I do.

I have seen a lot of these D'Amato pseudo-historical porn epics, alas. They are somewhat of a throw-back to his days as assistent director in the 60s for Italian directors who were making peplum films and later spaghetti westerns. Here is a list of the ones I have seen (only the ones about either Ancient Greek of Roman period or biblical stories):
- 120 giornate di Sodoma : male cast: Mark Davis, Sean Michaels, Frank Gun, Backey Jakic, Juvo's Steed (??) and Max Magnum (??); female cast: Deborah Wells, Anita Blond, Kelly Trump, Bernadette Manfredi and Cheyenne (aka Shalimar) - Les travaux sexuels d’Hercule : male cast: Hakan Serbes, Mike Foster and Frank Gun; female cast: Kelly Trump, Maria Szallontai, Gabriella Vince (aka Deborah Valentine), Erika Lindauer (aka Amanda Steele), Regina Sipos, Kristina Varga and Maria Papp (aka Mary Eleniak) - Sodoma & Gomorra : male cast: Mike Foster, Frank Gun, Jolth Walton and Hakan Serbes; female cast: Kelly Trump, Ursula Moore, Sylvia Ross (??), Maria Szallontai, Amanda Steele, Kristina Varga, Mercedes (from Buttman in Budapest ), Regina Sipos and Maria Papp (aka Mary Eleniak) - Aphrodite : male cast: Backey Jakic, Roberto Malone, Eros Cristaldi and Boris Bianco; female cast: Olivia Del Rio, Ursual Moore, Vally (??), Laura Lee (??), Cristina Ganz, Nicolette, Paula Whyte (??) and Marzia Visconti (??) - Love & Psyche : male cast: Mike Foster and Frank Gun; female cast: Maria Papp (Mary Eleniak), Maria Szallontai, Amanda Steele, Katalyn Hoffman, Kristina Varga, Sheila Stanton and Ursula Moore
I know I have seen more, but these haven't been entered in my database yet. The best of these was a Kelly Trump vehicle called Messalina . I have seen Ulysses as well, but I didn't like it. I suspect that D'Amato was also the director of Caligola: Follia del potere , although a certain Raf De Palma is credited as director.

Dead right about it!
The best D'Amato movie of this kind was "Messalina orgasmo imperiale", made in 1982 making use of both sets and costumes for the other D'Amato epic "Caligola the Untold Story", of which a rather awkward porn version does exist. The hungarian 90's movies are usually shot in never ending takes and from a long distance during which D'Amato probably absent himself to take a coffee.

I have read somewhere that coffee is about the most important commodity on any Italian porn set. Everybody brings his/her own coffee-maker. Could you explain this phenomenom?
btw, I agree with the first part of the sentence. "Never ending takes from a long distance" is a very apt description of the style of these films. You can also add the constant zooming, during these "long takes", that serve no other function than to interupt the visual monotony, only to add more annoyance. Can you believe that D'Amato once defended this style as the cinematic equivalent of the perspective of a voyeur?
>Walter Burns wrote: "The best of these was a Kelly Trump vehicle called Messalina ."
This is not the one I'm referring to, which is just as bad as the other hungarian (which it also is) ones shot in the '90's. The one I'm referring to was shot in 1982, in Rome.

Unfortunately I've never been on a porn set, so I can't be of any help on this matter. But coffee it would surely be the right thing to have at hand when watching a D'Amato '90's porn movie had not the ff been invented.

Yes I can: He liked so much taking for a ride whoever dared to take him seriously. But you have just to watch any of his soft movies and compare it even to his best porns to tell the difference.

If they are as "good" as his Emanuelle Nera flicks, I am afraid I am not interested. I have never seen any of his horror attempts. I have seen films of other Italian "masters" of the genre such as Bava, Fulci, Argento and (God forgive me) Deodato, but not one of D'Amato. Are they any good, or even just tolerable?
>If they are as "good" as his Emanuelle Nera flicks, I am afraid I am not interested.
Who said they're any "good"? Anyway I agree with you about the Emanuelle series, but I was thinking more about movies like "L'alcova" or even a lez-porn like "Immagini di un convento".
Hi I was reading the post and would like to ask about "Messalina, Orgasmo Imperiale". As i see, Mark Shanon, says that is the best D'amato film of this kind. I saw almost everything of D'amato, but not this one i mention. Just too short info on inet about it. Someone can point me some link to see some snapshots? Also, would like to take the oportunity to ask, if it is, in this movie, where Paulina Teutscher gives a long blowjob( while making a 69) to Paolo Gramignano? I am on the search of this clip since many time, so any advise will be great! Thanks in advance Cuco
